“Nice hotel, bland food”
Reviewed 30 October 2011

We stayed a week here in early october, and having read lots of reviews thought that this would suit us.
Our transfer dropped off at a good few hotels before finally reaching ours, and I felt confident that this hotel looked the best from the outside.
We were pleased with our room, albeit a bit on the small side, nice and clean. The bathroom a bit shabby but again clean. Lucky we were there in October as the air conditioning was utterly useless, but we managed. They do not change bath towels and linen everyday, as testified by a make up stain on a towel I inadvertently caused. They do fold them up to make it look like they have though.... I think a kettle would be nice in a 4star hotel frankly.
The outdoor pools were freezing, but the indoor pool lovely. I usually like to swim in the sea but didn't fancy swimming through the rubbish so abandoned this idea. The beach, covered in cigarette stubs and rubbish and a rather poor effort at clearing away the seaweed could occasionally be observed. I would rather they left the seaweed and sorted the litter.
The bus stop is indeed a five minute walk. We went all the way to Valetta on the bus which took just over an hour and as we were one of the first stops on the circuit had a seat the whole way there, but we were in the minority. There were numerous tales from other guests of waiting for two hours or so at bus stops, but we managed to escape this. I'm not sure I'd fancy driving as the local drivers are crazy! You can walk to the Gozo ferry from this hotel, 10-15 minute walk. Great speed boat trip from the hotel to comino, loved that.
The real disappointment from this hotel was the food. Ok there was a massive selection but it all tasted the same - i.e. of nothing. We were astonished to note that the only way to discern what meat made up a dish was reading the label since in the mouth the taste buds could not isolate it, which was quite surprising. Salad was limp and brown edged. Puddings fluorescent and flavourless. Even the icecream - always three different colours, never three different flavours. I HATE strawberry icecream, but could eat this, didn't taste of strawberry at all! The grill occasionally yielded some better results on the days the meat wasn't overcooked The one exception to the blandfest was the rabbit stew - delicious.
Staff a bit moody and disinterested, but I think that's just the maltese generally!
We liked the remote nature of the location, but if you want to be within easy walking distance of some shops/nightlife this is not for you.

Expected something special after reading the reviews here, but it was all very average and therefore not really worth the money. True it is very clean, and the pools are lovely, but it lacks character and is very remote. You have to do half-board at a minimum really as there is only one other decent place to eat in walking distance unless you get the ferry to Gozo. All you can eat buffet-style dining is a bit repetitive after a couple of days and you need to be a fan of the cold vegetables, overdone meat for tea and underdone bacon for breakfast to really appreciate it. Air-conditioning didn't work in the room, but fortunately didn't need it in October. It is very remote and the surrounding area is roadworks and concrete unless you look resolutely out to sea. The evening entertainment was atrocious. Other than listening to a string of different people with their electric keyboards, there is very little else to do -one table-tennis table and one pool table to fight over. Take a pack of cards, a couple of good books lots of interesting friends and you'll be ok. Also be prepared for twin beds when you book a double.

Room Tip: Get a seaview.

U need a sea view room as the view from the back is not nice. Small sandy beach is very calm brill for our young ones. Free canoes etc if AI. Very clear water nice for swimming. Good location as remote ish but because of it's remoteness not Blackpool in the sun!!!! Bus runs regularly and easy to navigate we hired a car to look round a couple of places worth the effort but overall we were not impressed with the island. Very dirty no money invested in it and run down. Cud be really nice with a bit if TLC!!! If u have kids the hotel is well situated as a few places to visit r nearby plus the trips to blue lagoon leave from outside the hotel. Rooms in the hotel r large and modern and clean. Small tv with two uk channels fridge and slow hair dryer. Food is excellent with a good choice and quick service. All staff helpful and friendly. Wud recommend the hotel.

We have just returned from our 7 night stay at Ramla Bay. 2 adults And a baby. We had an all inclusive deal is time. Hotel accommodation waspretty good. Nice view even from front of the hotel and a large room with modern bathroom and fantastic shower and fresh towels and linen every day. Kettle hire ( with tea and coffee) was 5 euros. Safe and fridge in the room also and complimentary water on arrival. Pools and sun bathing areas dotted all over the hotel grounds. Our only gripes with The hotel would be the fact that you have to wear a band to shown your board basis and alsoncarry a card around plus your key card for the room. The bar staff are not particularly friendly and don't have much enthusiasm. Entertainment in the evenings is a little bland , I appreciate its a hotel for relaxing but the entertainment at night could be better. Coupled with the bar staff that struggle to smile or make any rapport with guests don't think we will be returning. The food was not always very hot in the restaurant but was fairly varied. All inclusive cannot eat at the pool bar during the thentime the restaurant is open so no snacks between midday and 2pm for All inclusive guests. We used drifter taxis during our stay as we had a baby and could not use the buses. There is a rep from Drifter at the hotel.

I went away with my girlfriend and we both loved the stay at Ramla Bay. It may seem like it a way out from anywhere but there is a great bus service on Malta which is cheap and there are lots of buses. Also the port is a short walk away so you can cross over to the island of Gozo or get a smaller boat to Comino.
If you are going make sure you go to the blue lagoon!

All in all it was a great hotel, very clean with helpful staff.
One thing I would suggest is to go All Inclusive, it's worth the extra money!

We enjoyed a relaxing week in the Ramla Bay Resort. If you're looking for somewhere on the middle of a strip with loads of entertainment then don't bother coming here - however if, like us, you are looking for somewhere quiet you could relax for a week then this is for you. It's right at the top of the Island so I'd advise getting a car (including a sat nav). We did this and went around at our leisure and meant we weren't hanging around for the unreliable bus service.

Good points:
Staff - found them helpful and polite even when provoked by some of the guests.
Cleanliness of room - cleaners were in every day to clean the room.
Choice of food - there was a large selection every day. Breakfast consisted of the usual buffet. This included cereal, fruit, yoghurt, bread, meats, cheeses, pastries, rolls and usual fry up stuff. Dinner also had a large selection and was generally very nice.
Location - I liked the way this was out of the usual strip - nice and quiet and relaxing.

Things RBR could improve on:
Some things were a little shabby - carpets in the corridors were a little bare in some places, the lampshade in our room had a stain on it (though this had been cleverly hidden by placing it in front of a painting) and the shower head had clearly come away from the wall and been stuck back on with some industrial type glue.
Outdoor pool - was freezing - is there any way this could be heated?
Air conditioning in the room - I was glad i was there in October, not July. We resorted leaving our door onto the balcony open all night to try and get some breeze as the airconditioning was not very powerful. As I'm an asthmatic this affected my sleep.

Room Tip: We asked for a panoramic see view. If i was staying again I'd ask to stay on the opposite side t...
