Ramla bay resort is a really happy buzzing place. The staff were all lovely, and many of the negative comments that I read about have been addressed in what seems to be an overwhelming 'can to' attitude.
It was lovely to sit on our balcony overlooking the sea and the view to Gozo and Comino with a bottle of wine after the children had gone to sleep, not overlooked by loads of other high rise resorts. The bus service in malta is so good that if you needed to get anywhere it was in easy reach, so this location was perfect (the 222 to siliema was offered great views then you could arrive at Valletta by a short but picturesque ferry)
As our children did not like the sea water pool outside we were delighted with the indoor option, which bracing but otherwise perfect (we did try to respect their policy of it being a relaxation pool) and otherwise had the beach pretty much to ourselves but that may change once the bar by the beach is more up and running as most people stayed by the outdoor pool and bar.
We food was always fresh and there was a good variety - with excellent fresh fruit and vegetables (I lived off the tomatoes). At this time of year the only restaurant was the buffet which was fairly frenetic with crowds balancing plates piled high with food. The food ranged from being interesting to the more basic but safe catering fare. I could not really fault it or the lovely staff but despite being half board we still longed to eat out at somewhere smaller and calmer that could focus on quality rather than quantity.
When we arrived late with two young children the staff could not have been nicer, after we struggled to get all our luggage to reception they helped us up to our room and then brought us drinks and olives to our room. Sadly the option was not there for room service after a certain time and it would have been great to have had a luggage trolley by the door to help us in. This is a niggle and the staff did their best.
We developed a running joke that if you needed anything it was available at reception for €20 - perhaps a little unfair but after discovering that the lock for the safe came at a supplement, ditto beach robes and tea making facilities. I can't remember the real cost and paying for beach towels is not great problem it just made us laugh, almost as much the evening entertainment (which I don't think was the aim).
Would I recommend? If you like all inclusive and otherwise want to avoid the hustle and bustle of a town this would be ideal. It is great value for amazing service. We had the best holiday, but in hindsight we would have preferred somewhere a little smaller without any amplified entertainment.
