Having just returned from a two week stay with my husband, our two sons, my parents, my sister, her partner and their three children - what a great time we all had. The hotel is situated opposite the beautiful Mellieha Bay beach, by the road - although we never heard any traffic noise at all. Our room was spacious, clean, had comfy beds, two TV's, separate room for us to sleep in from our children, which is great for privacy, a good sized bathroom, fridge and free use of the safe in the room. I asked for an iron and ironing board, and had one for the majority of our stay at no extra charge. We had a good sized balcony with a clothes airer and a lovely view of the pool. The maid service was fantastic. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. My parents had a really good sized room, with a large balcony and sea view, my sister had a room like ours but with an outside terrace and sun loungers - great for them to continue sunbathing if their two smallest children went to bed in the afternoon. There are five restaurants to choose from and all serve excellent food. Our favourite was L'Orient specialising in Chinese and Thai food, but which also served sushi. The Brazilian restaurant was fantastic - the meats served were delicious and the portion sizes more than generous! The pools were all excellent, including the adults only area of the pool, with its own sunloungers and bar - what a treat :) There was a good variety of activities on every day and we heard many parents praising how excellent the childrens club was (regrettably our children are too old now). The evening entertainment was very professional and varied. If you prefer a more quieter evening you could sit in the bar off the reception area, enjoying the beautiful views of Mellieha Bay. The views of the Bay from the hotel lobby, the bar or the Coral Restaurant (where you could dine outside on their terrace) were just amazing. We celebrated a special birthday and an anniversary, and the hotel provided complimentary sparkling wine and doughnuts for our anniversary (the wine was very nice), and my family arranged for wine and a cake for my special birthday (although I believe they were charged for this). Mellieha Bay beach is beautiful, golden sand and the sea is quite shallow and clean. I would recommend visiting Gozo (we booked a trip through our rep and it was well worth the money), having a cruise on The English Rose ship (catching it just 8 minutes walk if that, from the hotel) round Comino Island, Blue Lagoon and Gozo was great value for money at 12.5 euros each. They sold reasonably priced drinks and snacks on board also. We also caught the bus to Valletta (numbers 41/42) and the water park near Selina (number 222). It cost 1.5 euros return per person on the bus. Entrance fees to the water park is 20 euros per adult (anyone aged over 10). You can pay 14 euros per adult for half a day if you go from 1pm, the water park is open until 9pm. It is a great water park, we spent a full day there and the food was not overly priced. I would recommend visiting Popeye Village. It is about 1km away from the hotel. We missed the bus and negotiated a taxi for 10 euros to take us, but then walked back to the hotel - it only took about 20 minutes. We all enjoyed our day at Popeye Village which cost 14 euros per adult, and 11 euros per child. Our son who is aged 11 was charged at 11 euros, our other son who is aged 14 was full price. We also hired a mini bus and driver to explore more of the island and visit Maltese friends. This was arranged for via The Drifter service in the hotel and at 50 euros per hour, for a minimum of 4 hours I felt it was excellent value for money. The bus service is excellent on the island, good value for money and all are air conditioned but you may have to change buses to visit some towns on the south of the island. We have had a fantastic holiday, I would highly recommend the hotel and I hope to holiday again there in the future.
