We were staying at the Pergola Hotel and thought it would be nice to sample the local food and although the price was a bit steep at 18 euros each, decided to give it a go. The restaurant was open from 18:30 until 21:00 so we turned up about 20:00.
By that time the restaurant was fairly empty, presumably the guests on half and full board at the hotel had been and gone.
After helping myself to the local fish soup, we did not realise that the whole of the meal was self-service.
The soup was tasty and hot so no complaints there but the main course of beef wrapped around a local sausage was dry and tasteless. I finished up the remaining potatoes so it was a good job that no one needed an extra portion.
I would normally expect the Chef to check the contents of the warmers on a regular basis but he only put in an appearance near the very end of the session.
All in all, not a very good meal especially as we could have had a set meal at the Windmill Restaurant for less, although we would have had to have started the meal before 19:00. At least the meal would have been served at the table and judging from our previous visits there, a lot more tasty.
A table for 4 came in after us who had also paid 18 euros but as soon as they realised the meal was self-service, they left immediately. A pity we did not do the same.
