Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Malta Golden Sands

Modern hotel with all the facilities overlooking the best beach on Malta. It's relatively isolated position makes it a great base as the views across the bay are beautiful and uninterrupted. In saying that the hotel has four restaurants plus there are two just on the bay so there are plenty of eating choices. There is also a bus top outside the hotel making it very easy and cheap (each journey is around £1.30) to get around the island and visit all the sights: We particularly enjoyed Medina, Valletta and Marsaloxx. Note however, that apart from Valletta all the buses return around 8pm so if you want to eat out in say Mellieha say, you will need to get a taxi back (about 15 euro).

The food and drink at the hotel is pretty pricey (4 euro for a large diet coke at the pool!) so I would recommend the one bed suites which have a small kitchen. We made our own breakfast and lunch if we were staying in for the day and stocked up with beers, wine and soft drinks from the supermarket. There is a small supermarket on site although again this is is considerably more expensive than taking a trip in to Bugibba or Mellieha to visit one of the larger island supermarkets. Whatever, room you book, it is well worth the investment of a seaview room. The ones looking out to the country side are the real poor relations although they are the same inside. Our one bed suite was very spacious with separate bedroom and large bathroom with Jack and Jill sinks. Tea, coffee and milk is provided as well as mini toiletries and replenished every day.

The hotel has a reasonable gym, a very nice spa with a wide range of treatments and both large indoor and outdoor pools with comfortable views and with the latter views over the sea.

We really enjoyed our stay and was impressed with the amount of things to do and see in Malta. I wouldn't, however, really rate this hotel as a five star. The service was rather hit and miss. It's very nice but definitely a four star.

Way better than Malta's Hilton! It is such a wonderful hotel, full of plenty of activities for family, friends and couples. Before I went, there were many rumors of Malta being 'boring' with nothing to do. I walked into this hotel and straight ahead of me were brochures and brochures full of different activities. They provide all the booking for us, we went jet-skiing, dauphin swimming, boat riding. You name it, we did it. It wouldn't have been as easy if the hotel hadn't helped out. It is such a beautiful hotel, the rooms were as clean as anything, we stayed in the penthouse and a few days in they gave us a few home cooked meal by one of the chefs in our room. If you do decide to go, you have to visit flavors, best restaurant in Malta. They have three swimming pools, two jacuzzis (not counting the one in my room) and a beach. They have a spa, gym, taxi service, over 5 restaurants, a club and even a few celebrities to bump into... I couldn't say one bad word against it.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter what room you ask for, penthouse or studio apartment, the view and room is fantas...

This five star resort hotel is located off the beaten path on the western side of Malta. The location is a plus and a minus. It's distance from the 'city-life' makes it more peaceful, less crowded and more serene. Without a car however, you ate limited to taking buses or expensive taxis of you need anything. It's better to have a car I you stay here. St. Paul's Bay is only a 15 minutes away.

The rooms are nice. Each room has a decent sized balcony. The bathroom is huge and well equipped. The bed was a bit small but otherwise by Maltese standards very comfortable. The pillows were a little big and tough but I was able to find one that was a little softer.

Service was excellent. Room service was quick and delicious. A big meal arrived quickly and was more than filling. The ribs at the cafe were delicious. The pool area was pretty nice. There are a few pools and more than enough space to find your zone. It was a bit busy in August with kids and families but all and all I was still able to find a spot to rest and take in the sun. the hotel has lots of activities available from pool aerobics to water sports. There is diving school on site. There is a nice sandy beach with a private area for hotel guests. There are a few restaurants in the hotel, the buffet is excellent for breakfast and dinner. The Italian place was not very good but decent and the cafe was excellent! There is a small beach bar on the beach and a restaurant grill next to the hotel. I didn't eat anything on the beach but the grill was nothing to write home about.

The area around the hotel is beautiful with many scenic view and hiking possibilities. There are beautiful sunsets over the water and a real remote resort feel to this location. Aside from the cats walking around during dinner while you're seated outdoors, the place was pretty clean and tidy. The service was by far the high point. Everyone was so nice and helpful. They were all pleasant and friendly. The other highlight of the Radisson at Golden Sands is the spa!!! Simply amazing! The "Cocoon" spa package lasting 85 min. including a coconut scrub, wrap and hot oil treatment with a Thai massage was well worth the expense. Ask for Ae, she was a great! Overall I would gladly stay here again and recommend this resort to anyone with extra cash to spend while vacationing in Malta.

And not just because whilst those in UK suffered rain storms over the bank holiday weekend, I was bathed in the hottest of hot sunshine and able to take to the cool waters of the pool almost at the end of my sunbed! Rather because I remember this resort when it was a concrete monstrosity that looked more like a prison than a hotel and serve Knorr Mushroom Soup and tinned Fruit Cocktail for supper and it is a world away from that now. From cool drink upon arrival whilst check-in was dealt with efficiently, to wonderful food in the Mokka Lounge (supper one evening and afternoon tea another) to full blown buffet dinner on last evening with amazing breakfast buffet on last morning, the staff were calm, efficient and very friendly. Pool and pool side is amazingly clean despite the number of people sitting around ordering food and drink from the pool side cafe and there seemed to be enough of everything to go around. My en-suite room was fabulous - even with a country view - and the bed was very comfortable. Only slight niggle I could possibly make would be that WI-FI access is only available in certain 'zones'! But, this is Malta after all, and I am sure that there is a good technical reason why it is not available freely throughout the complex? Can't wait to go back and I am a seasoned Malta visitor.

Room Tip: They all have balconies so the better views are obviously out to sea!

We visited The Radisson, Malta under the Timeshare introduction. We were genuinely interested in the options available. Although we liked the timeshare idea we found the hotel lacking. In the middle of nowhere, no town, no harbour, nowhere to walk to let alone an alternative restaurant that didn't sell milkshakes! We had a nice room but the Country Park and Herb Garden view - more like the car park, Scout Camp and bare earth. The room was clean, spacious and adequate although nowhere near 5*. large bulky TV's, damaged chair and worn carpets.
Breakfast was great but EVERY evening restaurant was full of children who, as usual, didn't go to bed until late.
The car hire franchise was a nightmare with severe problems with both the cars we booked. If it wouldnt have totally ruined our holiday we would have driven them both to the nearest police station and reported them. There was no way they were road worthy.
If you want a family hotel, guaranteed sunshine, no touring and reasonable food then the Radisson is fine.

Room Tip: Choose a Sea View if you can.

All round superb Hotel. All the staff seem actually to enjoy being helpful.
Do get talking to Henri, the very cultured Guest Relations Manager,
for tips and advise about visiting lesser known treasures on the island.
There are innumerable little touches of service that make for a string of pleasant surprises
such as a welcome drink at check -in and the Omlette Chef at breakfast ensuring perfect scrambled egg every time.My only gripe was finding that Swizzles, the Piano Bar,only opens out of season.Maybe that could have been made clear on the hotel's website.
And then there is the location, arguably the best Sun,Sea and Sand spot on the island.

Room Tip: Far away from the Mokka Bar Terrace if you do not wish to hear the otherwise very good vocalists l...
