“June 2013 Malta Holiday at Golden Sands Resort”
Reviewed 12 June 2013

This was our first full week's holiday at the resort as owners. YES! we made the right decision. The hotel and amenities are fantastic, views from balcony were superb the Pool area and beach are well maintained . The staff went out of their way to help, the animation staff were really great with the children (aged 2 to 10 years). Obviously the more time and money you spend at the resort the more attention you receive. The resort is a bit off the beaten track, there is an Arriva bus service (as at home their time tables are a bit hit and miss) for 12euros you can travel anywhere for a week during the day, the hotel offers a shuttle service for 2.50/3 euros per trip, transfers were arranged through the hotel with Bluebird a minibus which took all 8 of us plus luggage (including 2 child seats) was 80 euros return. Meals and drinks were a bit pricey but this is a 5 star Radisson ! We travelled into Buggibba on the local bus for a couple of evenings and ate there for a fraction of the price of the hotels meals (obviously quality was different) there were plenty of bars and cafes there. The firework festivals are a must, prices for these can vary, shop around as with all excursions.
The signature EXTRA large pillows of a Radisson, can be exchanged for smaller ones on request (we found out on the last day, thanks David) The hotel, Obviously, is a magnet for weddings and on 1 night there were 3 which did infringe on access to parts of the hotel, this is to be expected in the wedding season we were told. We would recommend this resort to both couples and families for a relaxing holiday. We have yet to sample the hotel in peak season which we may do next year.

Room Tip: obviously pool view but country views get the sun and peace. Higher the floor smaller the balcony...

Beautiful hotel which truly deserves its 5 star rating. Staff very helpful and friendly and hotel facilities top class. If you want a real treat this is for you.

Downsides are the location (40 mins by bus to Valetta) and the obvious vacation rental guys (timeshare) who dont approach guests but do have a lot of possible purchasers to stay on special deals.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the rooms close to Mokka Coffee bar as entertainment will be just below your balcony.

Superb accommodation, surpassed only by the staff who cannot do enough for you, from the greeting you receive at breakfast as you are escorted to a table of your choice, the polite and friendly "pool towel" staff to the evening welcome as you return from sightseeing in Valetta. Breakfast itself is of the highest quality with enormous choice including cereals, fruit, juices and eggs cooked to order. Car hire is essential for exploring, available in the hotel lobby, but you may save money shopping around, all hire firms will deliver to the hotel, ours was there within the hour. Dive shop on site really helpful and washed all kit overnight. Only possible gripe is the huge, unyielding pillows. Overall definitely a place to return to.

Our second visit here in June 2013. This hotel is just superb. Right at the top and keeps on winning – just like Man U. You have got to be very picky indeed to find any fault with it. The apartments are large and very well fitted out including fully fitted kitchens for self catering. The hotel is very well maintained both inside and out and the rooms are well serviced. The staff are amongst the best we have known anywhere especially in the restaurants and including the sales team who nurally want to sell you a timeshare or holiday package. Slight irritation was being asked to go to an appointment for Quality Assurance. (No thanks guys, I’m on holiday and if there’s anything I don’t like, I’ll let you know!). The food is of a high standard and very good value. We had a four day half board package of buffet breakfasts and evening meals in Flavours restaurant. Full price for these was €15.95 for breakfast and € 29 for the evening but you get a substantial discount if you buy a package in advance or get the members discount. The breakfast comprises everything hot and cold you could reasonably think of and the evening buffet includes a very wide range of hors d'oeuvres, pasta, a choice of three or four main courses, cheeses and several desserts. There are other bars and restaurants in the hotel which can cost more or less than these prices depending on what you have. Drinks are also reasonably priced especially for a five star hotel. I recommend the red wine by the glass. There are a couple of cafes on the adjacent beach which also offer good value. Eating out generally in Malta can be quite expensive and not particularly good. The only serious drawback for this hotel is its location which in itself is lovely with great sea views and a good beach but miles from anywhere else. There is a cheap public bus service (€2.60 for the day) but this runs rather erratically as far as timetable is concerned and does not run very late in winter. There is also the Drifter minibus service which costs 2.50 or 3 euros per person each way to most places and is not all that frequent and has to be booked for particular times - not always what you want. Taxis are of course available but not cheap.
Our weather was not all that good with only two days out of seven being proper sunbathing weather and very windy at times which was disappointing because the large outdoor pools (constant 1.2m depth + a children’s pool) are excellent with good quality water, open from 7 am to 8 pm, plenty of room, and lots of sunbeds. The indoor pool is good with a jaccuzzi, sauna and steam room none of which we used on this occasion. Spa treatmemts are a bit pricey - more than you would pay in the UK according to my wife. There is a small private beach but this is a bit regimented with sunbeds in lines. The public beach adjacent is better if the beach is what you want. There was some noise from the beach at times but not too much of a problem. Not too much canned music, except one night when they seemed to have two lots playing at the same time, but they quickly killed one lot when we mentioned this. The hotel hosts weddings and other private celebrations but these do not interfere with the main parts of the hotel.
We are booked in again for next year. What more could I say?

Room Tip: I doubt if there is a bad room in the hotel. Sea view apartments face more or less south for the sun...

The climate in Malta is wonderful ,the people happy and gracious, the majority speak excellent English and the Golden Sands resort gives you all the high standards and luxuries that you can expect from a Radisson hotel. All the restaurants served superb food, nothing was ever too much trouble and there are so many facilities to utilise you could spend your entire holiday on the resort and not go anywhere else, which would be such a shame as the island has much to offer.

The private beach makes a welcome change from the pool area (with outdoor Jacuzzi, lagoon pool and children's pool as well as pool bar and juice bar). Parasols, sunbeds and towels are available at the beach with waiter service from the Pebbles Beach bar.

I had a wonderful time and would like to say a special thank you to Agliolio restaurant manager, Cormack and of course to Henri - see you again next year guys :-)

Room Tip: The country view rooms are in my opinion a better choice as you don't have the noise from the po...

My Husband & I have just returned from holliday at this hotel, it is absolutely gorgeous, superb views, staff cannot do enough for you, the breakfasts are amazing, it is out of the way, but there is an excellent bus service run by Drifter, will take you anywhere & pick you up later, very reasonably priced. It is the best place to take a chill out holliday & the beds & pillows are so comfortable, well worth a visit
