I stayed here in June 2010 with two friends (all in our 30s) so we had a triple room. We stayed for a week. The hotel is on top of a hill so if you want to get down to the beach to the bay you can take a bus or walk. We walked there and back as it was no problem to us. When we arrived we had no problems checking in. Room was overlooking the pool on the inner part of the hotel. We headed straight to the pool bar where the waiter was friendly and helpful. We didn't really have any complaints about the hotel at all, it was pretty much what we expected. The breakfasts were great, cooked eggs, bacon, fruit, pastries, cereals. Rooms cleaned everyday. We had a bar fridge which was great to keep our wine in that we had in the afternoon on our little balcony. Not the best view in the world, but you get what you pay for! I would stay here again if I was going back to this area of Malta. It was definitely worth the money, I got a deal on Hotels4U.

We have just returned from two weeks at the Pergola and felt we had to describe our experience there, as we find the 'excellent' reviews quite unbelievable. We stayed in a one bedroomed appartment which was spacious with two bathrooms. The kitchen area was basic but seemed grubby when we arrived, with grease marks around door handles. The narrow balcony was directly opposit other appartments with a row of steps inbetween. We are non smokers and two cigarette butts remained on our balcony until the day before we left. They were obviously from previous occupants. Needless to say we never sat out on the balcony. On the second night, we had to capture a cockroach cawling over the kitchen area. The next morning, there was a cockroach in the cupboard where the bin was kept. When we reported this, the cleaner sprayed around the kitchen and left us the spray. The next night, there were three cockroaches running around the appartment, we hastily closed the bedroom door and sprayed and sprayed, filling the room with noxious fumes. When we rang reception, they just said, "We'll send you some spray." We told them that we already had some. He then asked if we would like to move, but then said there were no rooms available. If there had been other people staying with us, it would have been impossible for them to sleep in the room, not only because of the now three dead cockroaches and other potential ones lurking behind cupboards, but also because the room stank of the spray. When we complained the next day, they said they would put stronger insecticide down and clean the kitchen. They obviously didn't clean the kitchen because the tea towel was still in the same place on the draining board when we returned. We also had to put up with the strong smell of the potent insecticide for the rest of the holiday. We never prepared any food in the kitchen after that. When the lift broke down, the towel trolly was stranded on our floor, as well as an open bag of collected rubbish, from other appartments, which included food. On our way out that evening, we reported the bag of rubbish, saying that it needed moving. When we came back it was still there, a haven for cockroaches! On a positive note, we didn't see any more cockroaches, but we always opened cupboard doors with trepidation. When the drain to the sink broke and the bathroom floor was flooded, somebody did come straight away to mop up and was quickly followed by a maintenance man. Also the towels were changed every day. The two pools were surrounded by other appartments or a wall and had no outside views, making them feel closed in and a little claustrophobic. One day we settled ourselves down at the pool at about 3:30pm. About an hour after this, empty beds were being cleared away by staff. When we asked why they were doing this, they told us there was a private bbq and they needed to get ready. If there was a notice, we didn't see it and felt very frustrated. Had we known that we would only be allowed an hour, we wouldn't have settled ourselves down. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food and service was very good. When we left. we objected to the 50 Euros per week charge for maintenance and electricity, whch we feel is far too high. Mellieha is on two levels, the bay level and then the church and town at the top of a very steep hill. This is where the hotel is. It is closely located to lots of restaurants, but you have to climb up and down inclines if you want to go anywhere. The sea front is very pleasant and if you're lucky you can get a free bus ride back up the hill to the hotel. We found the Maltese people very friendly on the whole. We would go back to Malta, but we would never return to the Pergola and definitely wouldn't recommend it to others.

Dear Guest,

At the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa we strive very hard to offer our guests a quality holiday experience and very much regret to read that this was not the case during your recent stay.

Our resort is renowned for its very high level of housekeeping standards and we can assure you that throughout the year we take very stringent pest control measures to avoid such occurrences. The situation is unfortunately now in the past and cannot be taken back; nonetheless, while we apologise for any inconvenience caused, we appreciate if you contact us directly to discuss the situation more profoundly .

Kind regards,

We stayed in a two bedroom self catering apartment. Our family consists of 2 adults, 3 children aged 15, 12 and 10. The apartment was spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a balcony overlooking the pool with a great view of the bay. The staff were friendly and efficient and when we lost a few items off the balcony due to strong winds they were very helpful in their attempts to retrieve them! There are two small pools. We did not sit by the pool but we noticed that people were putting towels on the sun beds before 8am, particularly in the second week when there were more British staying at the hotel. The first week there were mainly Danish people. The main pool is in the shade for a large part of the day and the sun terrace does not get any sun until after 10am. However it was extremely hot in August so this is could be considered a bonus! We had the barbeque on the Friday night which was great and very good value for money. The bar is very small and on a few nights the staff looked like they could use a bit more help! We were disappointed that the hotel did not offer free wifi. The beaches in Malta are lovely and not too crowded. It is a wonderful country with lots to see and do. We spent one day at Popeye Village which has seen better days but was still a good day out. We had one day on Gozo which is very easy to get to from Mellieha. The trip to Camino that we booked through the hotel with a company called Oh Yeah, was very, very noisy. Music was played constantly and on the way back it was unbelievably loud with the DJ singing along to all the songs.

We stayed for a week at the Pergola Hotel and Holiday appartments in Matla. The hotel and appartments are not new but are well looked after. The layout of the buildings can be confusing as I think that the hotel has been added onto. No two lifts go to the same floor so be sure to use the correct lift otherwise you could get horribly lost. Being a positive person I found that this could be an interesting challange not to get lost.
We came to the hotel by bus from Valetta and got off at the bus stop near to the Mellieha Cathedral. This was a short walk (100m )to the edge of the hotel, but then the road becomes a very steep flight of stairs to the entrance of the Hotel. After a long tiring trip of 14 hours getting to Malta these stairs can be very daunting.
The hotel is well placed for siteseeing in Mellieha and within walking distance(1-2Km) to the beach. It ia advisable though to catch a bus back from the beach as you will have a steep walk back.
We were booked in on a self catering basis. The hotel arranged for us to have a "starter pack" of bread, cereal, milk and butter available on arrival which was most helpful. There are many and varied places to have meals in and around Mellieha, and if you want to go to a different town the local bus service is good.

Dear Guest,

We highly appreciate your taking the time in sharing your experience at our resort.

As explained by your good self, the bus stop is in the very near vicinity of the Pergola Club Hotel & Spa, however it is worth mentioning that upon check-in, our in-house guests are granted access through the bottom hotel entrance so that they completely eliminate the use of the Adenau Stairs that are located just outside the main entrance. This entrance facilitates their way around the Mellieha village where in addition to the bus stop, one finds a selection of other attractions, shops etc.

In addition to the food pack, our sales team can also organise a number of additional services including your transfer from the airport to the Pergola. Our sales team can be contacted on info@pergolahotel.com.mt.

While thanking you once again, we very much trust that you will not hesitate to visit Malta for a second visit in the future.

Best regards,

Had a small apartment at this hotel, very clean well equipped and comfortable. As others have said this hotel is confusing in its layout and it is easy to get lost, but this is the only downside. Everything else is great, there are 3 pools, a gym , spa, restaurants etc. It is in a a quiet location, but within a short walk of buses, shops etc.
Do not miss a visit to the underground bunker in Mellieha, it is fascinating and not what we expected at all. The attendant had an extensive knowledge of the bunker, and was happy to share fascinating stories.

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for the positive feedback!

The World War II Shelters that are located just a stone’s throw away from the Pergola are indeed fascinating and worth a visit! In the last few years they have been renovated and enhanced with characters depicting various experiences that the locals had during air raids. Our Front Desk Team will gladly direct you to these shelters should you require directions.

We spent four nights in July. On arrival we were asked to pay the full amount!! I had to pay to make use of garage and I was asked to pay for the towels to be used for the swimming pool. Two small pools. Locals attend for the day causing havoc with children running about uncontrolled jumping in the pool splasing water on tourists and screaming at the top pf their voice. Breakfast and Buffet extremely poor and unsatisfactory. Definitely not a four star hotel. A two or perhaps 3 star hotel would be more appropriate. Rooms small and air conditioners dont work properly. Hotel needs immediate refurbishment. NEVER AGAIN. By the way we paid Euro 420 for four nights excluding use of garage. Families who needed highchairs for their young ones were also asked to pay extra!!!
