“peaceful and great scenery”
Reviewed 17 January 2014

We came across this hotel by accident; we were stopping at another hotel in Gozo St Patricks which is within the same group.

As we had the chance of another few days in Gozo - we stopped the extra days here. Lovely and peaceful; although some of the decoration was tired. The scenery and location were the selling point for us. so if you want to clear your head and have peace this could be an option.
We did feel a little expensive
Great pool spa; my hubby had a great massage.
Would we stay here again? we doubt it - but it was good find.

Room Tip: rooms by the pool are good

We stayed in one of the trullos. The interior was old, tired and dirty. The cream walls were covered in what we could only assume was squashed mosquitoes and other insects - the walls hadn't been cleaned, there was not one block without insect stains. The furniture was tired and stained, tired bedding (although the bedding was clean), the bathroom was completely outdated. The shower was an accident waiting to happen, with no thermostat. You took a chance as to whether you were scalded or frozen. The tiles around the shower/bath area were coming off the wall and the towels supplied although changed daily were probably only fit to dry your car with. All frayed along the edges and some with old stains on. The trullo was very cold with outdated a/c which was needed day and night to keep the building warm (broken a/c controls). The heating in the bathroom was an antiquated electric bar heater so high up on the wall it had no effect (also potentially dangerous - with rust on all sides). Although not required, the fan over the bed was bent and rusty. Lighting inadequate, with ad hoc bulbs used throughout. Light shades grubby if they existed at all. We could go on but will run out of space - it seems not to have been inspected for years.... We asked for a trullo with a nice view - we got overgrown bushes and grass, dead branches laying on what they called a terrace. In general the hotel is a bit of an embarrassment, certainly not worthy of 5* prices or ratings and very misleading. All in all a huge disappointment and we came away 2 days early feeling we had been conned.

We would like to thank you for your review. We take every review seriously as we are continuously looking at ways in which to upgrade the hotel and to keep our guests happy. As usual the hotel is currently closed up to 6th February to undergo general maintenance of the hotel and its grounds, and upgrading and refurbishment of certain rooms that were in the pipeline. The suite mentioned in your comments, is one of the rooms which is currently being attended to.

Although we do appreciate and respect your comments, we do think that your comments are unfairly exaggerated. Other trip advisor users reflect this. Just to mention a few points, our rooms are built from natural local stone and the markings on the wall (which you refer to as squashed mosquitoes) are in fact natural markings of the stone.

You might also appreciate that being on a small island is different than living elsewhere. Thermostats are not practical in the showers due to the hard water. The island is also very humid and therefore more difficult to heat up which is why the a/c is on 24 hours a day.

We are sorry that during your stay you had unusual heavy rains and bad weather. This also made it impossible to tend the gardens as is the usual practice.

Our biggest disappointment is that never once during your stay did you express your dissatisfaction either to us or to the representative of your holiday company who came purposely to see you to check that you were happy. Therefore we were not given the opportunity to address your concerns.

The layout of the Ta’ Cenc is planned to appreciate the nature around it and blend in with the wild cliffs to give a feeling of peace and relaxation. It is surely not a city type multi story hotel. This can be clearly seen on our website www.tacenchotel.com

We were upgraded to a suite on arrival however, I'm not sure what difference it made overall. The interior is tired, dusty, mouldy & in desperate need of even a 1* treatment to improve.

Filthy, stained, loose covers over filthy, old upholstery on the lounge seats. Rusty, dusty fan blades & vents blasting rusty, dusty air noisily. Broken ceramic lamp bases with stained, dusty lampshades. Fixed coathangers so rusted they couldn't slide along the rail. Peeling paint, cracks in the walls, dusty tile floors & painted murals half washed off left the interior tired looking. Bathroom is dated, mouldy & the glass door across the bath has no rubber seal so the overhead shower turns the floor into a lake. Overall, the room ranks a 1/5 stars, along with the rest of the hotel that desperately needs to join the 21st century.

The bed, however, was clean & incredibly comfortable - highlight of the stay! Food was very expensive but well made & tasty. Staff were grumpy & unhelpful to cheerful & professional.

Cleaners knock & open the door even if there is a DND sign up so beware. They also take ~10mins to clean (a whole suite...) which shows how little really gets done ie. don't expect more than your bed made, bin emptied, cups rinsed out & bath wiped dry.

The games room was out of order (the sign looked like it had been up for a while), furnishings scuffed & dusty, indoor spa pool filled with screaming kids & gym equipment "state of the art" (for the 80s).

Not worth the exorbitant price & high ranking from other TripAdvisor users.

We stayed at the end of November - weather still fine, but starting to reduce some services (e.g., their off site restaurant closed that day). Go to the off site restaurant (they have a shuttle or 12 euro) - food was great, view amazing, and you can swim in the sea right there!

It was about 20 euros to this hotel from the ferry. Here and Malta, agree on taxi amount before getting in as most don't have meters it seemed.

Beautiful places to walk along the cliffs on the hotel property, though there didn't appear to be anything in the nearby neighbourhood (we walked 50 minutes one night to dinner - hotel said 20 min so maybe we went the wrong way?).

If looking for a nice quiet weekend, I would recommend it! Rooms a little tired perhaps but the view and pool make up for it. Nice bar and library room to relax at night. Great pool spa area though I didn't have any of the services.

We hired our very friendly taxi driver for a tour - Joey 00356 99427271 (even showed us his home). 50 euros for the morning - we didn't stop long at places, but that suited us fine.

Room Tip: Off season and we were lucky enough to get an update to a suite by the pool. It had it's own lit...

We had a lovely week and we were very happy with everything. We had plenty to do - from enjoying the pools and spa, seeing the island, walking, sightseeing etc The staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. We have definitely found a new favourite place here and we would very much like to come back. We miss it already! We recommend Ta Cenc and certainly do not agree with the review from Dave D.....

We stayed for 7 nights at this hotel as part of a Headwater one centre waking holiday. It is a superb hotel with excellent food, good facilities including a couple of swimming pools and spa facilities. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would have no hesitation in staying there again.
