“A Great stay”
Reviewed 18 June 2012

This is our 8th visit to the St Patricks hotel. We booked half board although last spring we said we would not book half board again as we were disappointed with the food and the service. However we decided to give it another try and were not disappointed. The resturant staff were much more attentive and cheerful and the menu vaired and of good quality. The new hotel manager and resturant manager have certainly raised the standards. We must thank George in particular who welcomed us back so warmly and really looked after us. We love our sea view rooms and they were always kept spotlessly clean. The only commment I would make regarding the rooms are that the mattresses are now beginning to get a bit thin as are the towels. Our son and daugher in law were with us and we were in 301 and 302 again. This is the only reason I did not rate the hotel as excellent. Last September we enjoyed cocktails on the roof (but NOT the music!) It would be lovely to have the roof top bar opened again and we would certainly have used it had it been available. The cocktails had lat year were the best I have had in xlendi. All in all there has been a great improvement in this hotel. The standards are much higher and the service was great. The GM never seemed to have a day off! Thank you all for another great stay. we will be back!

Room Tip: Choose a sea view room- it is well worth the extra for the lovely views.

This was the first place we ate out at while in Gozo and were very happy with our choice.
We had very friendly waiters who were funny and informative.
The soup was very nice - being a particular fan of Brussel sprout soup or (those little cabbages as the waiter called them, haha). We both had ravioli filled with Gozitan cheese which was obviously home made - it was delicious. I think there was one other option for vegetarians but we were happy with this, and when we came back a couple of nights later, we were happy to have it again.
We also had nice desserts. Put together with the beautiful waterfront we had a couple of very nice meals.
The only problem we had were those fishing right next to our table and attracting a lot of flies with their bait. I'm not complaining about the hotel or the fishermen themselves here, but more ourselves for choosing the table close to them - be careful not to sit near the edges of the restaurant while people are fishing.

Went for dinner here on the 4th June. The waiter who has been there for my previous 10+ visits to Gozo was his ever charming and funny self however the restaurant manager needs to get a personality, a lesson in manners and an education in customer service.

There were 4 of us for dinner and I ordered the recommended Red Snapper with a price of €28. All the food arrives with the other 3 meals being excellent, however my fish, which had been filleted had not been descaled. Never ever ever had that before, and this is supposed to be a meditterean and seafood restaurant. As the others had nearly finished I just asked for some Fries as I hate when this happens as you end up eating alone.

When we complained the nice waiter spoke with the chef and confirmed it wasn't descaled. When it came to the bill and my wife asked for some form of compensation, like a free drink, the restaurant manager stated, with his arms folded across his chest, that I had received FREE Fries so what was the problem.

His attitude continued throughout the remainder of our time there, making us feel as uncomfortable as a smell in a wetsuit. So needless to say we will not be going back to this restaurant ever again, while this manager is still there.

It's a shame as this decision is based on the attitude of 1 person, whereas all the other staff are wonderful.

Still have another 12 days here and will be back in September and returning regularly, so this 1 persons attitude has now stopped any repeat business they will get from me and anyone that travels with me.

Karl G, General Manager at Saint Patrick's Hotel, responded to this review, 9 June 2012
We are extremely sorry to hear that we did not meet your expectations at our restaurant recently and would like to apologise unreservedly for your disappointment. Your feedback has been shared amongst all our team members and this will help us to avoid similar issues reoccuring.

In order to clarify matters with readers of TripAdvisor we would just like to point out that the price of the fish in question was €22 not €28, once it was apparent what had happened a replacement dish was offered and a portion of chips was chosen, there was no charge for either the fish or the chips and all four diners were given a complimentary drink at the end of their meal. We have listed the above information purely because we feel that the review, along with its title, may not have been very clear.

We are of course also very sorry to hear what you have had to say about our restaurant manager. He has been with us for the past two months and during this time his performance has been excellent. This has resulted in several verbal and written comments from our guests praising all our restaurant staff and the service we provide. We have found it very hard to reconcile your account of him with the person that we work side by side with every day and cannot help but feel that a gesture or a glance may have been dramatically misinterpreted. We hope that this is the case.

As you are currently still in Gozo we would like to take this opportunity to invite you back to our restaurant, as our guest, for dinner to allow us to make up for your disappointment. Both Joe, our restaurant manager, and I would be happy to look after you were you to agree to this. Please feel free to call us should you decide to reserve a table.

Once again, please accept our apologies.

Yours sincerely

Karl Gaffiero

Fantastic location, truly lovely hotel. Small and personal, excellent staff, great food, super comfy bed, a real gem of a place, couldn't recommend highly enough. I rarely if ever return to a place but will definitely be revisiting.

We didn't stay in the hotel but we had dinner twice at the waterfront restaurant of this hotel. Food was quite nice, big mixed fish platter, relaxing atmosphere and kind staff.

Spent a week at this hotel early May.It is set right on the waterfront in this pretty little bay.We had a room with a wonderful view across the water.Everywhere in the hotel was clean and the staff were so friendly and helpful especially Joe, the restaurant manager! Food was very good, the fresh fish was amazing! The local bus was easy to use,the bus stopped at the back of the hotel and you could explore the whole island via Victoria.Xlendi was definitely the best place to stay on the island and would recommend St Patricks for a lovely relaxing stay.

Room Tip: Worth paying the extra for a balcony and sea view.

We have just spent two weeks at St Patrick's Hotel in Gozo. We have had a lovely holiday even though the winds were quite strong which prevented us going in the sea. We were very pleased with the hotel, the staff were all very helpful, the rooms were cleaned every day to a high standard, the breakfasts were good - plenty to eat. You can request an English breakfast for a nominal charge, you only have to ask. We bought a weekly pass on the bus which stops outside the hotel for 12 euros each and saw most of the island with this as it goes to all the local attractions on Gozo. We ate at the Le Val d' Or just up the road from the hotel which was very good value for money at 10 euros for a three course set meal, the owners are really nice. We had a courtyard room but if we return we would hope to book a room with a balcony. Thanks to all the reception staff who were able to answer all my questions and a special mention to Grace who was very helpful. I nearly forgot to mention the manager who was also very pleasant!

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony and sea view.
