As I said, it lives up to it's billing. Just spent a relaxing week there and have very few complaints, mostly praise. Very grand entrance and great room which was very spacious, clean and comfy. Nice little balcony as well which is nice to sit and chill out on. Pools are a great place to lounge about, do a bit of reading and cool off in the blistering heat. Always plenty room to get a couple sun loungers and the main pool is for adults only which is nice and quiet.

Breakfast is a great spread and can be enjoyed on the balcony overlooking the pool.

For dinner there's a couple restaurants which both do very good food (generally, the odd thing not so good thing like the pizzas) but of course you pay for it, which is what you'd expect. We ate dinner twice in the restaurants in the hotel, and the rest of the week ate elsewhere. I'd definitely recommend going out and about for dinner, especially to the likes of Xlendi where there's some fantastic resraurants which do at least equally good food, at a better price and a much nicer view of the water. The Boat House and especially Ic Cina are both great choices but there's plenty to choose from.

Easy to get around the island (no need for a car) as the buses are made for tourists, both cheap and reliable. There's also a courtesy bus twice a day from the hotel to the main attractions on the island which is worth making use of.

Overall definitely recommended but try to get out and about for dinner.

PS heard some people had problems with the staff but everyone we came across was friendly and professional.

This is a lovely hotel that lives up to the five star billing. Everywhere is roomy and elegantly decorated. Upon arrival we were fortunate enough to be upgraded from a room to a suite with pool view which offered a large bathroom, bedroom, lounge area and balcony. There was ample storage space and a room safe, minibar, tea and coffee making facilities, complimentary toiletries, hairdryer, iron and ironing board and flat screen TV were all included and complimentary bottled water provided as part of the turn-down service each night. Everything was well decorated and spotlessly clean.

The hotel has three outdoor pools, one of which is designated as being for families, which the few guests with children seemed to use, leaving the other poolside areas blissfully quiet. Towels are available at poolside or from the spa at no extra charge. The staff were extremely polite, friendly, efficient and helpful.

The food and drink is generally expensive although that’s something you’d expect to find at a five star resort. Soft drinks and juices work out at €10 a litre which is ten times the price you’ll pay at the supermarket down the road. The one bargain we did find was afternoon tea at the Il-Baldakkin café in the main building which offers a choice of teas as well as cakes, biscuits, scones and finger sandwiches which would provide a light meal for two people for only €13. Alternatively buy one each and gorge yourself. They also offers a limited range of half price cocktails and mocktails between 5 and 6pm and again between 10 and 11pm. The ladies behind the bar at the Il-Balakkin should be singled out for special praise as they were extremely apologetic and went out of their way to make it up to us when we had a meal there one evening which didn’t live up to expectations as well as introducing us to bajtra liquer which is made from the prickly pear fruit of the local cacti. It’s delicious! We also ate at the L’Ortolan restaurant where the food was pleasant enough but particularly expensive and I didn't feel represented value for money – two people eating a three course meal with a bottle of wine should not expect much change from €120 before you’ve added on any tip. Ultimately there are choices as to where to eat both inside and outside the hotel so the cost is not something I’d deduct marks for as it comes with the territory.

If you’re looking to do some sightseeing the resort does offer a complimentary shuttle bus service twice a day to various points of interest on Gozo, just make sure you book in advance to be sure of your place. There is a bus stop for regular Arriva services near the hotel which connect to Victoria if you’re looking to venture elsewhere. The hotel can also arrange your transport all the way back to the airport if required, we found it best to ask them to arrange the taxis at either side of the ferry terminal and pay for the ferry ourselves.

On the whole, other than the inflated food and drink prices, there’s nothing I could fault the Kemplinski for and I’d gladly stay here again.

Beyond the hotel, the Azure Window tourist site takes between 20 and 30 minutes to walk to. Alternatively you can use Arriva bus service 311 which runs well past sunset if you don’t fancy the uphill walk back. If you intend spending sunset at the Zaure Window be sure to take insect repellent as mosquitoes are prevalent. After sunset you may want to avoid walking in the undergrowth as there appeared to be a substantial local rodent population.

If you need a supermarket then there is a good one within five minutes walk of the hotel – turn left out of the hotel, then right onto Triq Frangisk Portelli, pass the craft market and the supermarket is a little further down on the right. They offer a wide range of products at good prices.

Dining options within walking distance beyond the hotel are limited. If you carry on the same road past the supermarket and turn right at the end of the road you’ll find Jeffrey’s restaurant almost on the junction. There is a moderate choice of dishes and the service wasn’t exactly enthusiastic but the food was reasonable. If, instead of turning right to Jeffrey’s you were to turn left you’ll find Rangers Bar a couple of hundred metres on the right. Enter by the door on the left then go up the stairs on the left and there is a restaurant on the roof terrace which is cheap and cheerful with friendly staff serving a selection of pizza, pasta, salads, burgers etc. The portion sizes are generous and it’s easily the cheapest place to eat in the area provided you accept that it’s not going to be fine dining. It’s certainly popular though. Carry on along the same road and you’ll reach Salvina’s on the left-hand side of the road. The menu is not dissimilar to Jeffrey’s but we didn’t eat there ourselves so I can’t comment on the quality. The only other restaurant in the area we found was Tatitas which is on the right-hand side of St Lawrenz town square (turn left out of the hotel, then left again and straight on until you reach the square with the church in front of you) however it was closed while we were there so I can’t offer comment on their food. Dining options will be wider if you’re prepared to get a bus or taxi to and from Victoria.

Taxis on Gozo and Malta tend to offer good value and most trips seem to be at fixed prices which you’ll find stated on boards around taxi ranks at places like the ferry terminal. Buses are cheap, €2.60 for an all day ticket, but in our experience they can be slow and unreliable. Staff at the main terminus in Victoria were helpful, bus drivers are happy to let you know when you’ve reached your stop if you ask and stops are displayed on scrolling displays on the buses. Also be aware that fares differ for tourists and residents so be sure to buy the correct ticket.

Personalized service is of great importance to Kempinski, and we invest heavily into training to ensure every guest feels special. We do assure our guests that our prices are quiet reasonable of that of a five star Kempinski Hotel should have, even though situated on a small island like Gozo.
Thank you once again for your thoughtful feedback and all the local information you have shared.

As we were using the facilities as guest and used lunch every day for at least 10 days. Let alone the bar bills I had at the pool. We do need to say that quality of the hotel strongly depends on the staff members. And it varies....
At certain point we were in waiting of our lunch. We were with three. In comes this lady asked wheter we could move. We said no. After this happend we dit hear that the lady was a colleague of sales with some chinese guests? So we as guests needed to move for her and her entourage. Can you imagine a five star resort were you are guest? Never had this before and never want this to happen either. Shame on you sales lady.

Travelled here courtesy of and with my girlfriend; what an outstanding hotel! Setting, Location and Service were fantastic. A great 'get-away and chill' short break.
Reception Staff were excellant; poolside service was a little hit and miss - but it was the end of the season. But this was a beautiful experience and the hotel has excellant grounds, pools and facilities.

We took a short 7 day break at the Kempinski in JUne this year, having stayed there once before. Our room was immediately up-graded because of this and we had an excellent room overlooking the pool. The hotel is always spotlessly clean, facilities are top class and the staff are all more than friendly. There's a wide range of food options and the restaurant service is very good, although some staff seemed a little lacking in experience. Needless t say we have already booked for next year!

We've just come back from a fabulous stay at the Kempinski San Lawrenz & wanted to share our experience.

The hotel was beautiful & spotlessly clean. Our room had everything we could need & a great view over the pools & gardens. All of the staff were friendly, welcoming & very efficient.

The food was fantastic! Very fresh and very large portions - we never managed to make it to dessert! Breakfast was great with a huge choice & a great way to start the day on the outside terrace. We had lunch in Il Baldikkin everyday and it was always delicious & very fresh. We also loved the Trattoria where you could go for a great pizza or go all out with fresh seafood, fillet steak etc

If you are after a quiet romantic break with great food & a beautiful island to explore, this is perfect for you. We hope to be going back soon!

Room Tip: Our room was on the 5th floor which gave us a great view of pools, garden & the sunset

Had a day trip over from Malta to gozo so disided to have lunch at The Kempinski 5 star and it was everything a five star should be, what a gem our lunch was lovely sitting on the terrace the food was nice very unpretentious i had two mini spiced burgers with frys and it was delicious washed down with a ros'e wine. We had a swim after lunch and the pools are superb, real luxury. My daughter and myself had a couple of treatments that afternoon just to round off a fab day. This is a retreat hotel so quite, ideal for a honeymoon i think. I would really recommend this hotel and would have loved to have stayed longer.
