We are travellers on bicycles and stayed at Samosir Island which is situated on the lake itself. On day 2 we decided to explore the island and its surrounding areas. We did this by renting a scooter from the resort since it is a large area and we needed to go to Tele which is 60km distant from the place we stayed at, Tuk Tuk.

The lake itself is actually a crater, it was formed when the moutain blew up thousands of years ago and thus it is surrounded by beautiful ridges of mountain top edges. Best photo opportunity of the lake would be from the western side of Toba. The road to Tele was simply awesome. I share here pictures, mostly set to Dynamic Arts settings.

The lake is of course, very beautiful, it is stunning. The view from lakeside hotel room, from the top of the hills. That would have to be the reason that justify travelling 5 hours from airport all the way to Lake Toba. Apart from the beautiful view, you also get to visit some other tourist attractions in Samosir, one of which I thought was good, the King Siallagan's Stone Chair and that is also depending on the guide that explains the history & going for traditional Batak Dance. There isn't much attractions otherwise. And for my trip it was raining the whole day, so basically we cant even spend time at the pool. Be prepared spending some quiet times on your own, bring a book, write some journal entries, play some games... basically there is nothing much to do here. It can be very peaceful just enjoying the beautiful lake so it really depends what you are looking for.

Beautiful scenery but environment very dirty... extremely poor hygiene...!

I really do not recommend this place for families/couples... especially families with young children...!

man has brains and can build unimaginable structures but what nature can create it far above any human creation. while it take man years tio build nature does it in minutes.

75k years ago mother nature decided to create a lake. a huge vocanic eruption and TOBA bigger in area than Singapore island was created with greater marvel being an island almost the size of singapore within that lake. welcome to lake TOBA or danau TOBA.

you can look at it from any spot. the views are stunning and can match the best in europe.

and then can man to maximise the benefits from the lake. Resorts hotels line different sections of the lake. connection to the inner island of SAMOSIR is via passenger and vehicle ferries from several different destinations.

nature further enhanced the view with fog to create a truly enchanting and immensely beatiful view.

and the lake gave food man. there are several species of fish in the lake that the various eateries use to grill for human enjoyment.

want to see heavens on earth. GO TO LAKE TOBA.

Yes the journey from medan is laborious but NIL SINE LABORE. there is no pleasure without pain and trust me the pleasure is far more than the pain of the travel.

Bring a good book. Best enjoyed after a tiring working week with a strong desire to do absolutely nothing but to jump into a volcanic lake with breathtaking views. The 4-5 hour journey from the new airport can be a deterrent, but let's not let it get in your way.

Could potentially be a romantic spot but lacks good restaurants that actually give privacy to couples. Good for family and friends.
