Huge rooms, lovely food and hospitality. Went for a business conference so didn't pay for anything, however all the staff were very helpful and friendly.

This hotel is okay but absolutely nothing special. The grounds are very nice and the library is lovely for a cocktail or two. However, our room (the Poles suite) wasn't particularly luxurious or even very nice. It was comfortable enough for the two nights we stayed.

The spa was a huge disappointment. The pool was so busy that we didn't go in. It was very much like a local authority public pool overrun with kids. According to the spa staff it is always like that at the weekend.

My husband and I both had a lovely facial but the Indian head massages we both had we awful. It was pretty much just a bit of hair flicking followed by a shoulder massage. Please don't waste your money on this treatment. Perhaps it's not right to mention but my therapist had a coughing fit in the middle of my treatment and my husband's burped a couple of times!!

The casual restaurant was okay for both dinner and breakfast.

All in all we have learned that a specialist spa place would be better for relaxation that a spa in a hotel. However, we wouldn't return to Hanbury Manor again.

Room Tip: The suite did not seem worth the extra money

I stayed at Hanury Manor for a business meeting in early 2012. I arrived quite late in the evening and was met by friendly staff who upgraded me to a suite. In general the hotel is set in some very scenic grounds, the rooms were of the standard that you would expect and the food was above average. In short, I would recommend this hotel to others.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the grounds

The Hotel is impressive, but like other hotels which have facilities aimed at local residents-in this case a golf club-you always get the feeling that you are intruding on a private club and the locals would rather you were not there. We also had difficulties arranging a date for a Red Letter day-it had to be a Sunday and the Hotel was initially reluctant to give us any date-fortunately Red Letter sorted it out-as it was, the hotel was deserted on the night we stayed.

Room Tip: Book well in advance

We chose Hanbury Manor for a short break mainly because of its location and the swimming pool. Bad start. Actually it was our honeymoon but as we're in our sixties we weren't after champagne and roses but we would have liked the King Size bed we're reserved rather than the room with two small double beds they had for us - too small for two people to sleep in. We were offered a King at the cost of £50 a night upgrade - no thanks! We just wanted what we'd booked.

Bearing in mind, it's corporate golf hotel, there are lots of plus points to say about Hanbury Manor:
- the staff almost without exception were friendly and helpful
- several of the problems we had were immediately rectified (see below)
- excellent standard of building and decor
- very good food though not cheap
- excellent safe in the room
- the beds were extremely comfortable

Sadly, our stay was somewhat marred by various details the hotel just got wrong and shouldn't have.
- usual corporate niggles - high charges for internet access
- the plug in the basin wouldn't hold water in
- bedrooms spacious but only one shared bedside table and light
- they sent the wrong newspaper in the morning (next day ok)
- no slippers provided for spa visits (sent up on request)
- the room was cold and the heating had been turned off because of high temperatures during the day even though it was down to freezing at night! (radiators supplied)
- we waited nearly 45 mins for sandwiches in Vardon's, the golf bar, at lunchtime, somewhere you'd expect the service to be very quick

And finally, Zodiac, the top restaurant, only has a three-course set menu, no a la carte or other options. This is astounding for a restaurant of this calibre. It was very good albeit very expensive even compared to London standards but so inflexible.

Would we go back to Hanbury Manor? Not to stay but certainly for a day visit to the spa and pool which are excellent as are the gym facilities - and especially if there were more healthy options on the lunch menu.

Room Tip: Some rooms are in a separate building to the main hotel and a long walk, some of which will be outsi...

Stayed here late March 2012 on a 1 night DBB with 2 rounds of golf. Golf course was in excellent condition and really enjoyed playing here. Accommodation was exactly what you would expect from Marriott in that it was clean comfortable and a very high standard. Dinner was a 3 course Carvery buffet in the Oakes Grill that was one of the best I have ever had, and the breakfast buffet in the morning was equally fabulous with an omelette chef onhand at all times to do your eggs just as you like them....

Couple of minor downsides.... In Vardons (Bar) Normal coffee was £3.50. A small latte £4.00. This seemed unnecessarily expensive to me. Draught lager was £3.80 which seemed very reasonable in comparison. This place is 5* so maybe they feel they can charge what they like as their average clientel wouldn't care but all the same just smacked of greed to me. Also a golf buggy for 18 holes was £35. The most expensive I've ever known (in this country).

Other than these 2 minor issues would still thoroughly recommend and would use again.

We booked the Escape weekend package which included breakfast and two 25 minute treatments which you can upgrade, great facilities and the Health Spa is very relaxing. We dined in the Oakes grill a buffet offer with large selection, the only slight disappointment was that the other restaurants were closed so had lunch and dinner which was the same menu
