We went away with friends over the Bank Holiday weekend and shared 2 very different experiences. We are Gold Elite members and were allocated (after a bit of discussion!) an upgraded room in the actual Manor House, whilst our friends were allocated a room in the modern block of the hotel. We did joke that they were staying at the Travelodge whilst we were experiencing the Hanbury Manor that you would expect if you looked at the photos of the place. Our room was luxurious and full of character, whilst our friends room was a modern Marriott room, identical to most others around the country.

Breakfast was the usual style, good quality and nicely laid out, although as it was Bank Holiday weekend, the dining room was very busy and not very relaxing.

Dinner was good in the Oakes Grill, although the price of the steaks I thought was excessive.

Service was good, pool was nice but not really what you'd expect from a top spa, but still better than most Marriotts.

Overall a most enjoyable stay, but for the money it cost, that is what we were expecting.

Room Tip: Stay in the Manor House if you can afford the extra.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your lovely review following your recent stay with us at Hanbury Manor, A Marriott Hotel & Country Club. I am pleased to read that overall you and your friends had an enjoyable stay.

There are a number of different room types and buildings that are part of the Hanbury Manor estate and I was pleased to hear that as you were a Gold Elite member we were able to upgrade you to a room in the Manor House. Saying this I am sorry if your friends found the location and style of their accommodation which was in a different part of the estate not quite up to the same ambience as yours. I have taken on board your honest feedback which is very important to us.

I am happy to know the breakfast and dinner in the Oakes Grill restaurant met with your expectations.

Thank you for staying with us and your comments are most appreciative. I trust we will have the pleasure and honour of welcoming you and your friends back to the hotel very soon.

Best wishes

Met up with 7 other fellow school friends for a girlie night. Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful place, lovely quiet, very comfortable room. Enjoyable evening meal and topped off with a facial. All the staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful and very professional. We had a great package deal.

We returned to Hanbury Manor for a complimentary stay following a previous poor experience. Pleased to say the room we were allocated was much more fitting of the standard I would expect at a Marriott hotel with a stunning view over the grounds. We did not dine at the Manor on this occasion as we chose to take a leisurely stroll down the drive to the Sow & Pigs, however breakfast the following morning was a much improved experience than on our previous stay.

Room Tip: I would opt for the newly refurbished rooms, unless you like shabby chic which is more how I would d...

Pleasant country house hotel with friendly staff.

Signage in the grounds is poor but staff were helpful once inside.....room was adequate but nothing special...restaurant was fair but pricey and the bar was very overpriced!

OK stay here.

Room Tip: Pay extra to stay in the main house and bring your own booze!

We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend. The start was not great as the initially allocated room turned out to be little disappointing. It was smaller than many other Marriotts I have stayed at on business and with just a single window pane in middle of sloped walls not best for sense of space. For a property with so much area at its disposal its a shame better use was not made of the space. We chose to upgrade to a bigger room which was in the original wing of the property and a class apart. It was much nicer overlooking the golf course, high ceilings, separate living room and luxurious feel. The golf course was great, it feels a world apart for a place otherwise quite close to London. The layout and upkeep is excellent and the landscape is very pretty. On the downside, the open spaces even around main hotel are mostly marked out for golf. The moment you step out of the front of the hotel, beyond a few feet out area is marked as for golfers only due to health and safety reasons. It would have been ideal if space had been left for children to play around and head into the open park space. Service wise it was bit of hit and miss, but it was likely because of a busy weekend. On the whole still satisfied, though Marriott can make it a lot better.

Room Tip: Choose in the old wing facing the golf course. They are dearer but for the time you spend, well wort...

Dear Guest

Thank you for submitting your review for the aspect of your stay with us. It is always valuable to hear our guests point of view on what we are doing well and how we could improve. It is indeed pleasing to read your great comments regarding the golf course which I will ensure is passed to the greens team.

I am sorry if you did not receive our usual high levels of service at the hotel due to the extremely busy bank holiday weekend. Saying this there is no excuse for a hit and miss service and I apologise profusely.

I do hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to the hotel in the future to ensure we make your next stay an exceptional one.

Best wishes

Very large Jacobean style complex, road access to which is poor from the A10, and when you arrive things are badly signposted. Impressive reception hall, friendly foreign staff. Ok, we had booked a very good rate but we were then told our room was about 5 minutes walk away, or a shorter drive, but better signposts would have been appreciated, Room in a modern block, quiet despite a nearby wedding, and large and comfortable with two kingsize beds. Nice shining bathroom. If you don't want to drive to reception, where parking is difficult, you can walk or the friendly concierge will pick you up in a golf buggy!

We had a meal in Vardons which was ok, nothing special although the service was professional. Breakfast was one morning in a beautiful dining room overlooking the rear gardens, and one morning in the uninspiring Oak Grill , on the first floor, a considerable trek from reception.Still both breakfasts were buffet style and there was an excellent choice. There was even an omelette chef! There are some beautiful lounges in the main building and a terrace at the back with pleasant views, but we were told that we had to collect our drinks from the bar which is not on for a supposedly 5 star establishment

The pool and spa were very good and clean, and there were some nice walks in the grounds. We were told that the golf course was first rate and well kept. The whole place was extremely clean (given the square footage of the place that can't be easy), and all staff were friendly and helpful. There is a 5 star AA placard at the entrance, not quite deserved we thought, and we would return, but next time to a room in the main hotel.

Room Tip: Unless you're a keen walker in all weathers, plump for a room in the main hotel

We have just returned from a family weekend break at Hanbury Manor.
We were a party of 6 adults and my 3 year old grandaughter.
The hotel was really lovely and we were thrilled when we realised we had been upgraded to a prestige room and the manager Govert had left us a bottle of champagne to help us celebrate our anniversary.
The room 569 was wonderful with a lovely view of the golf course and an enormous bed. The bathroom was huge with a separate bath and shower. The boys said the golf course was fantastic especially the greens.
My grandaughter really enjoyed the pool and the grown ups appreciated the hot tub and sauna.
The staff were friendly and efficient and always greeted us with a smile.
The breakfasts were delicious with a wide variety of fruits and cereals as well as the usual cooked options.
A super stay in a super hotel.

Room Tip: Room 569 was luxurious, quiet and had a fantastic view.
