This was our first visit after being recommended by friends. We thought the food was very good. If you want huge portions then you will be disappointed. The mackerel starter was small but very tasty. Two of our party are vegetarians so we would have liked possibly two veggie options on the main menu. Only one of us had a pudding and it was delicious - but eyeing up other diners choices we would definitely save room next time and we would all choose one! The pub is set in a lovely pretty village and next time we would combine the visit with a walk along the New River. We will certainly come back again.

Fantastic cuisine from this hidden away gem of a dining establishment. Great service, eclectic selection of gins and superb food. How refreshing to find a local eatery that’s neither a dressy pub with nouvelle grey decor, silver picture frames and bog standard food, or one of the many multiples providing pasta served 20 different ways.
The soft shell crab starter, creamy risotto and light banoffee Soufflé were wonderful. If you’re looking for a proper dining experience, by a chef who genuinely knows how to execute his craft, a visit to The George provides a welcome splash of colour amidst a sea of East Herts beige.

Very Slow poor service, WAITED for over an hour for average food. Good to look at but was horrific to eat. The staff did not seem to know what they where doing, a complete waist of time and money. Not going back.

Dear Tim, seems as though you didn't enjoy your evening. Your rant is rather difficult to address given our usual standard of service
and food but, we have taken note.

We created a meal here via an Experience site but realise how awful a la carte dining can be! Not welcomed on arrival, our meal voucher was not acknowledged immediately so we had to remind the staff of our entitlement to a glass of wine with our meal, and even then the lad forgot what we had asked for after another reminder. The waitress was clearly inexperienced as she had little idea what was on the menus. At £13.50 for a burger and triple cooked chips I expected more of a portion. My wife's lamb meal I could of eaten in six mouthfuls so not impressed. On the plus side, the food was hot and tasty and the desserts were pleasant albeit pricey. Considering the place was quite busy on a Tuesday I would have expected more support to the two front staff as most diners were pre-booked. Would I return? Not a chance! Much better value for money elsewhere.

Dear Sir, we regret the level of service provided for your visit. Short notice, unforeseen circumstances resulting in the absence of our senior staff did create some difficulties on this particular evening but, as a rule, we pride ourselves on the level of service offered.
Our food, including the burger with triple cooked chips, is freshly prepared daily on the premises and priced accordingly. It is unclear whether you purchased the experience voucher from the supplier or if it was a gift, however, we appreciate the distance you drove on this occasion even though the service received was not to your satisfaction.
