Yabbiekayu Homestay is a beautiful and unique place. I highly recommend it. A lot of thought and attention to detail went into the design and construction. Bungalow 1 has a great view of rice fields from the back porch. Love the outdoor bathroom with big bathtub. It would be great for couples, although I was traveling alone. Maybe next time. Good service and breakfast too.

Thanks so much for your beautiful review
It was so nice of you to choose Yabbiekayu for your trip to Yogya and a real pleasure to have you both here.
I'm so glad you liked our outdoor bathrooms, we firmly believe this is one of the great things about Hospitality in Bali that needs to migrate across to Java :)
Also glad you found the staff helpful and the breakfast enjoyable
Look forward to seeing you on your net trip
Yours
Dave

We had an excellent experience staying midst of rice fields in rural Yogyakarta.
Dave,Bakti, Babboon made us feel absolutely at home. We had a wonderful evening of chatting and exchanging experiences with Dave. He suggested excellent places to eat for vegetarian meals
as we are vegetarians.
Place is re-constructed from old Javanese Houses which were dismantled and brought at site.
Only 2 Cabins are ready and work on 3 more is going on but from Plans that Dave showed it is going to be a great experience to live in.
Dave was a great host. We would definitely want to do a return trip.
Only be ready to wake up at 4 AM with sound of muezzin from the village mosque but we consider that is part of experience of living in Ruraul Indonesia.

Dear Nayan
It was such a pleasure to host you both. I very much enjoyed our chats about Islam and Hinduism, Indian and Indonesian culture. I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and very much in honesty look forward to your next visit.

As your review was our first review below 5 stars, I hope one day you can find the time to write and let us know how we can improve and better serve you and our other customers. Our aim is to be five stars in service, cleanliness, food quality, facilities, friendliness and comfort and we strive to continuously maintain and improve our service in all of these areas.

My apologies if you were disturbed by the morning call to prayer from the mosque, though as you say this is part of the delightful reality of life in a small village in Java and something you quickly get used to on your travels around Indonesia. Our bungalows are located on the edge of the village of Tembi facing towards a broad area of open rice fields, coincidentally at the furthest point from the local mosques hence the sound level is actually quite reasonable. Hence generally it's only very light sleepers that feel at all disturbed. Of course we supply earplugs for anyone who needs them. In fact in can be truly magical to wake up and sit out on the deck watching and listening as the mist rises off the rice fields and the call to prayer approaches slowly from far off villages closer to the rising sun, then climb back into our cozy four poster beds then to wake again a few hours later to poached eggs on sourdough bread with and an espresso and fresh fruit juice on the porch :)
Such is life in a small village by the ancient city of Yogyakarta.

Again thanks for your kind review and I really do look forward to your next visit!

We stayed at Yabbiekayu three days in our honeymoon, and everything is perfect in this place! Our bungalow was beautifully decorated and it was homely and comfortable (and respectful with the environment). The open-air bathroom was sooo nice! To have a bath at night with the sound of the frogs looking at the stars is priceless! Also, the place is surrounded by beautiful rice fields.
The staff is nice and helpful, it feels like home. The breakfast is great, and it's served at the porch of your bungalow.
Tembi is a quiet and typical village, far of the noisy streets of Yogya, but near enough to be there in 20 minutes by car and go shopping or sightseeing.
Near the homestay there is a great Batik gallery, where you can meet Tatang, an amazing artist with a lot of interesting stories and awesome batik pictures that you can't find anywhere in Yogya.
It was perfect to stay at Yabbiekayu, I hope to be back someday.
Thanks to Dave, Babun, Bakti and the whole staff, you're great!

Dear Azahra
Thanks so much for your wonderful review
It was a pleasure hosting you.
Its so nice when visitors like you really "get" the experience that we are trying to share with you.
i.e the beauty of living in a small Muslim village on the edge of a rice field in Yogyakarta, with all the relaxation of a small village but all the luxuries of home plus some.
It makse me and my team proud that you enjoyed it so much.
I'm also glad you got to meet our neighbour Tatang, who runs a great little Batik business, this along with the local handicrafts factory, cultural centre, spa, swimming pools, restaurants and water park make the village of Tembi worthy of a visit in its own even if you don't stay with us !
Thanks again, and we look forward to your next visit!

We stayed at the Yabbiekayu for several days in February and we had a wonderful time. The bungalows are amazing combination of traditional and modern architecture with lots of attention to the detail. Every piece of furniture and material is unique and having its own story. Thanks to his experience in building industry, Dave was able to create a place that is environmentally friendly but where the guest’s comfort is not compromised. The spacious open- air bathrooms could easily compete with any 5* hotel.

Everyone working at Yabbiekayu was extremely helpful and resourceful. They really put their heart in everything they do. As a result you feel more like visiting friends rather than being just another traveller. Breakfasts on the porch overlooking the rice fields while enjoying delicious nasi goreng were just priceless.

The location is very tranquil and away from all the stress, noise and pollution of Yogya but at the same time close enough not to miss any of the region’s must-sees. It is very relaxing to return to Tembi after the whole day of sightseeing and exchange the car honks for nothing but the frog croaks.

We would recommend this place for everyone who is not satisfied with anonymous hotel rooms and for those who like to stay at the places that not only offer all the comfort but also respect and support the local community. The only advice would be not to stay at Yabbiekayu at the beginning of your holidays because once you leave, it will be hard to find another place that can match the hospitality of Dave, Bakti, Tegu, Alex and others and the charm of the Tembi rice fields.

If we ever return to Yogya we will definitely stay at Yabbiekayu again.
