“Weary tourists fed & watered”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

We didn't have a reservation but were quickly accommodated and all enjoyed the food and Cornish real ale. Toilets basic but clean. So I disagree with 1 of previous reviews....It was well worth the adventure down the lanes.

“Lovely Inn”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Arrived famished and left repeat. A great choice of meals served with a smile. Olde world inn with beams, watch your head if tall. Very good value

“Very disappointed”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

Very hostile sour faced staff on entry. No welcome greeting at all. Of the four of us lunching, three meals were absolutely terrible. Fine if you like bought in deep frozen then deep fried muck but we were expecting FRESH fish ! Horrible haddock and horrible crab cakes. Could have been eating deep fried cardboard. Our fourth diner fared better with actual FRESH cod from the specials. Now why on earth couldn't the waitress have KNOWN that when we enquired ? Really really disappointed especially as we were celebrating a very special birthday. Chocolate pud was ok but the Irish coffees were a bit sickly. Old place but was horribly dirty and dusty and the carpet was filthy. Yuk. Never go there again.....

“OK but not worth the journey down the miles of lanes”
Reviewed 12 July 2014 via mobile

We arranged to meet friends here for dinner. Their claim to fame is the age of the building, sadly it isn't just old, it looks tired and unloved and the toilets didn't pass muster; this is the area of an establishment that tells you much about the owners mind set and it wasn't good. I gather I was served by one of the aforementioned owners when I went to the bar to order drinks; no warm welcome just a somewhat sour faced woman who didn't smile; why work in the hospitality business if you don't enjoy it? It was a lovely warm evening and so we had a drink outside whilst reviewing the menu which I found to be what you expect from a pub. Having made our selection we went to the bar to order; there then ensued a lengthy wait. When it did finally arrive the food was on the good side for a pub and portions generous, just as important the waiting staff were attentive, warm and helpful. All in all it was ok, but I won't be making the hike back along the miles of country lane, nearby there are pubs with a warmer welcome, better kept building and cleaner toilets! Ho hum.

“Very good food”
Reviewed 1 July 2014 via mobile

We recently visited for the first time, having been recommended by friends. We were in a large party. Overall the opinion was very good. The food was very good and served quite quickly considering how busy they were. The portion sizes were large, and the main comments were people would have preferred a smaller portion at a lower price. The car park is quite small, but then it is just a village pub. Would visit again if in the area.
