My wife and I just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and we thought it would be romantic and spontaneous to wait until the last minute, spin a bottle, and just head off to parts unexplored - just somewhere warm. Well, trying to make reservations in the Caribbean in February is no easy task. However, it was our reservation challenge that made us look a little deeper and to discover those parts unexplored - Round Hill.

From the moment we arrived we knew that we had made the correct choice to celebrate this significant milestone. We found the warm weather we were looking for combined with exceptional service, accommodations, amenties, and natural beauty. The views from our cottage were nothing less than breathtaking and the in-room breakfast every morning is still dominating our conversation.

The spa at Round Hill is located in an 18th century building with views to rival those at the cottage and even the short walk from the resort serves to restore and rejuvenate. Richard provided me with one of the best spa treatments I have ever received and enhanced an already relaxation vacation.

Nightly entertainment after dinner keeps things energized, but if you're looking to get away from it all, I highly recommend just spending the days lounging by your cottage or villa pool with the one you love. The highly manicured grounds and the space between the accommodations provides privacy and seclusion just steps away from the beach and activities.

There is always that nagging question, "what do I get for breakfast tomorrow?"

My husband and I chose Round Hill based on reviews, and because we were looking for a place to escape for a long weekend (4 nights) of R&R. The grounds were beautiful, it was conveniently close to the airport, and the service was very good. The staff were attentive and friendly. The spa massages were very good. We had a nice weekend, but with a few major issues that would deter us from staying here again. First - we chose to stay in the Hotel, because we wanted to be able to walk to the beach. Problem is that on Friday & Saturday nights they have live music, which is great - however it lasts until 1030 or 11pm. When you stay in the hotel, it sounds like the band is in your bedroom. We were taking a break from our up all night 18 month old and with a baby on the way - wanted to go to bed early. We sat wide awake in bed for an hour both nights stuck listening to songs like 'celebration' and 'all night long' till the band was done. So - be sure you are happy staying up that late because you have no choice if you stay at the hotel. The second issue was lack of food options. The only dining offered was fine dining. The dinner menu was $30 and up (even for the chicken option) which I thought was a bit excessive. The lunch menu ws $16 and up, and the breakfast buffet was $65 for two people including tip. If you wanted to cab somewhere different to eat, it was a $60 cab drive - so no more affordable then staying at the resort. Its great to offer fine dining, but there should be alternatives with no nearby options outside the resort. The dial out phone service in our never worked from day one, and the hair dryer was faulty.

A fortnight in Round Hill is definitely like being in Paradise. The setting is unique and the beauty and comfort of the place unsurpassed anywhere. The moment one arrives one gets a warm greeting and one feels immediately at home. The rooms are simply decorated in the best taste (Ralph Lauren) and very clean, pretty and comfortable. Everything is discreet and elegant without being pretentious. Delicious meals and plenty of wonderful tropical fruit. There is a huge swimming pool and a lovely beach. Five minutes walk along the water brings one to a secluded spa with expert treatments and a tranquility lawn where the weary brain can unwind by watching the waves lap the shore. The staff are so sweet and kind and nothing is too much trouble. They are friendly and always have a ready smile. I am sure there is nothing more beautiful than Round Hill and no better manager than Josef Forstmayr.

From the moment you pull off the main road and pass through the entrance to Round Hill, you are struck by the beauty and charm of this amazing resort. The private road that leads you over the hill to the main resort area, is like a driveway to a private plantation home. The arrival experience at the main reception area is so welcoming and the view from the check-in desk is breath-taking. I loved the room - Cottage 8. It was set on the side of the hill with spectacular views - there was a bedroom and then a separate, open-sided pavilion off to one side, which was wonderful to relax in. I really appreciated the sense of history at Round Hill and was fascinated by all the famous people that have stayed there. However nothing feels dated or in the slightest bit "faded" - all the areas are freshly decorated and beautifully maintained (the landscaping is stunning). I understand that the infinity pool is comparatively new and is one of the best infinity-edge pools I have ever see. I also really liked the Ralph Lauren designed restaurant and bar - very elegant and in-keeping with the resort history (check-out the rest rooms as well - they reminded me of the locker rooms in a very swanky country-club). The spa area is just beautiful in itself - a wedding was taking place on the manicured lawn in front of the spa building when I was there and it all looked stunning.

We don't recommend dining off property as the meals we had were really good, however one night we went to a nearby restaurant called Boathouse Grille - it is a floating restaurant and a boatman paddles you over to it on a little barge. Great food and wonderful atmosphere.

There is no marble at Round Hill, no gilt, either, and no trendy design. There are no beer-can-clutching tattooed yahoos, either. What you get instead is refinement, subtlety, calm and perfect service, and the sense of being on a private compound, surrounded by people you know and enjoy. From the entrance pavilion with its blue and white checkerboard tile floors framing a view of the startling blue sea and house reef, to the impeccable service provided by a staff at once friendly and razor sharp, this is as good as it gets.

My husband and I loved Round Hill. We chose Montego Bay because American Airlines flies there direct and we didn't want to spend a lot of time traveling. We chose Round Hill because of: it's rating on Tripadvisor, close but not adjacent position to the airport, and small size (we HATE uber-hotels). We almost booked a villa/cottage but I wanted to be close to the water, and I didn't think we'd utilize the living room and kitchen fully. Our room #205 on the second floor of the Pineapple house was perfect for our 5-day/night stay. It was literally 15 feet from the ocean's edge and pool--a 9 second walk to both. I was happy we booked a room with a balcony (a $40 per day upgrade), because it provided more space and opened up the room to the ocean. We kept the french-style screened doors open the entire stay, through the night--no bugs, and no worries about security. If you want nightlife, to party and be social--round hill is NOT the place for you--there aren't even t.v.'s in the rooms. Even with several families there, It's quiet--just what we wanted. The place felt only 30% occupied--it's hard to tell how full the property was because all the villas have their own pools and I think the residents pretty much stayed there. Our room was pretty, immaculate, and the king bed was very comfy (took 2 baths in the sumptuous tub--yum). We did not miss a t.v.--we read a lot of books, listened to our ipod on the nightstand player, and watched the NFL playoff game in the open-air social room adjacent to the library. The food was fantastic--we ate nearly every meal at the main "restaurant" which is a huge patio with white tablecloths, padded iron armchairs, and umbrellas 4 feet from the ocean. The ambience is absolutely unbeatable with lush overhanging trees and a 180 degree view of the private bay. The fresh fish and buffet breakfast with fresh smoothies were the best. Be prepared to spend on food, though--breakfast was usually $70, lunch/dinner $150+ (if you drink). At times, service was slow, though--that's Jamaica for you (you get used to it once you unwind). Round Hill is a huge, gated, secure property. Once you're on the property you don't see anyone but guests and personnel (absolutely no locals, vendors, etc.--except for one basket-maker who was camped out on the lawn adjacent the Pineapple House--he was obviously invited and only said "good morning" to us--never felt any pressure to buy anything). The grounds are lush and very clean. There is constantly someone raking, cleaning, tidying, etc. The eternity pool and surrounding/lower decks are gorgeous--especially the ocean view. The two outdoor bars are charming and small, drinks and service were great (esp the rum punch and ice tea which they serve with sweetened syrup). Twice I left my iphone on the property and it was turned in promptly; a security guard wandered the property at night. We liked the complimentary 4pm tea--tea, sweets, and finger sandwiches (we often played cards at that time while nibbling). They had to-die-for jam-filled donut holes and banana bread. Usually there's some sort of live music during dinner--beware that room service closes early at 9:30pm so if you miss dinner you either go hungry or take a 15 minute taxi drive to Montego Bay. We utilized the complimentary kayak and paid $150 for a 1.5 hour private trip to Mobay in the power boat. The tropical walk to the spa is gorgeous, as is the spa's pool/deck and the adjacent grassy lawn which has hammocks and stretches out to the ocean. Don't order food or drinks at the spa--it took us an hour to get ice tea.
My only complaints about RH: the young bartenders at the pool bar talked loudly to each other (not guests) for 3+ hours straight on 2 separate days--we had to move to get some peace. At 2am one night the security guard chatted on his cel phone outside our window for over an hour--I called the front desk and it stopped soon thereafter. Also, in the morning hotel staff walking under our balcony were quite loud. Lastly, although RH is 15 minutes from the airport, it's in the landing flight path. I noticed about 5 planes a day--kind of distracting, but there's nothing they can do about that.
We took a private taxi to Negril and hung out on the bustling, tourist-entrenched 7-mile beach for a couple hours--saw a nice sunset. Prepare for constant haggling by beach vendors. We ate at nearby Xtabi restaurant on the cliffs over the ocean--spectacular view/setting--food was ok. Another afternoon we took a private cab into Montego Bay to see downtown and Rose Hill--had dinner at Scotchies--good jerk, lots of locals, very casual outdoor roadside setting.
Can't wait to return to Round Hill--it was a lovely place.

As a family with two young girls (7 and 10) we were looking for the vacation of a lifetime. After countless hours of researching our options we decided for Round Hill Hotel. It did not dissapoint! What a find! There's no doubt, Round Hill is the crown jewel of Carribbean luxury resorts. The location, the warmth and proffessionalism of the staff, the food, the beach, the pool, our two villas we tried (22A and 5), the private breakfast by the private pool, the clientel Round Hill attracts, the sunsets, the serene sounds of the jungle at night, the transportation, the nearby attractions for adults and children, the nightly music and / or entertainment at the resort, the watersport options, the true history it has and proudly shows, the jaw dropping landscaping and architecture, all of it and everything else I forgot to list, was absolutely perfect and I think impossible to match! My family and I agree,it feels good to be hooked on Round Hill Hotel for the rest of our lives...!
