“Great food and chill out area”
Reviewed 10 March 2014 via mobile

Fantastic food, good chill out area Overlooks the beach. It is a nice place to take a break from the sun! Free wifi and the drinks and ice are made with mineral water. They have huts to rent as well but I didn't stay there. A nice relaxing place to visit for breakfast or lunch.

Our beach hut was pretty basic but with everything in working order and definitely good value for the price (500 rupees per night for a double). If you've never stayed in a beach hut before, be prepared for a chilly night, as the rooms are not exactly insulated (they are beach huts afterall!), so maybe bring something to wrap up warm. And for the same reason you can hear pretty much everything that goes on in and around your hut so perhaps bring some earplugs if you want a good night's sleep - to be fair, this very much depends on the other guests and how much noise they decide to make although we did also hear the occasional dog fight in the middle of the night. But other than these points (which to be fair, come with the territory when you choose a beach hut) we enjoyed our stay. The chill out area is particularly relaxing and inviting and a good way to meet other guests. The food in the restaurant is generally good. We did however find the service a little poor, as we often spent a long time waiting to be served and sometimes had to collect our own menus and grab the attention of the waiters. But not a problem if you have time on your hands. Jon, the owner, is a pleasant guy who was happy to answer any questions we had about the place and about the area. And he was pretty relaxed about receiving payment for the room and for our food bill.

All the food is excellent, I came here almost daily for about 5 weeks and had almost everything on the menu. All the local Indian dishes are great, the Israeli food is great also, breakfasts are also pretty sweet, the Italian is particularly good. Also the cocktails are great.. Order a rum punch, you won't regret it.., or maybe you will ;) also great vibe, great chill out areas and sun lounges.

Laughing Buddha was great place to stay as a solo traveler, I met a lot of people in the chill out area, which is a nice place to while away a few hours with some food and a good book. Another positive is the fact that I felt secure staying on the main beach - no need to wander around at night on my own, yet the laughing Buddha is located far enough away that you are not kept awake at night by the nearby bars.

Despite many reviews on here, I found the owner to be very helpful with every request I had - he helped me with advice to rearrange a flight, booked me a cab when I was leaving and was generally helpful with any day to day question that I had. (Only small gripe would be that you have to purchase something from the restaurant to have access to the wireless...personally I think you should get access to the wireless if you are staying in the huts, and this seemed to be what was upsetting people)

Prices in the restaurant were very reasonable and the food was good.

I would go as far to say that this is the best place to stay on the main beach stretch if you are happy with nice, simple, no fuss accommodation (the way it should be really! Arambol isn't the kind of place where you are going to spend ANY time in your room)

We arrived in Pernem train station in the evening & we took a taxi to the beach. even-though we booked (over the phone) a place when we arrive we realize it was far away from beach so we (bunch of us who met on the train) walked to the beach looking for beach huts & came to laughing Buddha even though we read some bad reviews after arriving there we liked the place. Its right on the beach with lovely restaurant. Each hut has a little sit-out area with 2 chairs & a low table, attached bathroom. We stayed almost a week in laughing buddha till we leave Arambol. Ocean is lovely to swim there even-though some areas it wasn't. Food was lovely.

Room Tip: If you need to use WiFi get a room closer to the restaurant but not too close as it could be quite n...

mr. kim *gg* ;-) :

i was in arambol in january 2013

my guesthouse wasnt in laughing buddha, but i was almost everyday day until night at laughing buddhas restaurant-lounge-chill-area at the beach.

the food was very good, doesnt matter what you order, and the price was fair low compared to the other restaurants (we checked many restaurants in the arambol). btw. arambol itself is pretty expensive for india.

i was there with 2 german friends and from the beginning we met other travellers and become friends.
then our travellers-connection was growing to about 15 travellers hanging together ordering a lot of food and playing chess, laughing debating etc.

it was a great time.
the travellers are kind and likes connect contacts and they have 2 big lounges with tons of pillows, where you can lay down and chill. of course there are also typical tables and chairs.
the food was very yummy.

the staff was also very kind and respectfull to me (to us).
thats one of the reason why i am writing here to defend the staff and mr. john.

mr. john asks very polite if there is a problem. but i heard he can loose his patience if both sides starts struggeling. i dont have a problem with this. even when the restaurant was closed and he goes sleeping, he let us sit there a while (as long we are not to loud). we stayed every night until they closed the lounge. what i want to say is: he is fair and polite but maybe is not endless patient and maybe he is kind of stubborn *gg*.
i dont start struggeling because i have to pay 1 more water (20-25 rupies), which maybe my friends were drinking but forgot to pay. and i dont provocate the stuff and the owner with loud music after midnight while my neighbours are sleeping.

so for me arambol was a great time because of laughing buddha (including meeting other nice travellers, the great food, and the very polite staff). arambol itself was a usual beach for me.
and laughing buddha is one of these lounge-restaurants, where you meet other travellers very easyly.
