The lion park, the surrounding areas especially the hunter valley. Definitely no good without a car. Lake Macquarie is beautiful.

“Picturesque”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

Beautiful place to see. Plenty of walking tracks for types of fitness levels and also areas for campers. You could spend days here it’s a great place to explore. Only recommendation is that you have a map with you as there is no service in the region and you cannot reply on your gps to get around. The roads in the national park are rocky and bumpy so do take care when driving.

“Great Camping”
Reviewed 17 April 2013

There are a number of choices for camping here. We camped at the Turpentine and the basin camp areas.
Turpentine provides a great opportunity to camp without neighbours (in sight or hearing at least), firewood was easy to locate. The only downside was the abundance of leeches on the bush walks and in the campsite. The walks are well marked and easy to follow (make sure you bring your maps with you).
The Basin campsite allowed us to camp alone (there was nobody there at all), lots of green grass to put up the tent, limited walks but great camp fire facilities (made from the tracks of a bobcat). We would go there again.
