Great hotel! We stayed for 4 nights and had a great time there. The hotel is a drive up the coastline and it was about 30 mins from the hotel and 40 mins from town, so prepare for that.

The best part was the beach, it was never crowded. We never had a problem getting a cabana. We rented free snorkel gear to learn how to snorkel. They had great daily activities which anyone can join. Some areas are more rocky areas than others, I guess water shoes would have solved our problem but you do get used to the rocks after a while. However, the peace and quiet was so worth it.
The pool was open 24 hours so you can always go for a dip whenever you want.
Have to say the staff were so great, esp the valets, they were so super nice and informative. If you ever need a recommend for restaurants etc. Just ask them.

I would still recommend this hotel even after we found a small cockroach on our last night there. :)

Room Tip: The seaview is def worth it. The garden view is quite far from the pool and the beach.

Stayed there for 3 nights, travelled as familiy with 4 year old child. Hotel is very large but it never felt crowded. Hotel beach is OK but you will find nicer ones nearby. Room is spacious and up to date, sleep quality was good. Restaurant is very good and reasonably priced. In fact we had no negative experiences at all, so i would recommmend this hotel to a friend.

We stayed here for a week and were met with unpredictable great service. Free towels at the front door daily, free and friendly valet, free beach cabanas, free internet, 24hr room dining service, ice bucket delivery and then daily replenishment (without asking), timely and discreet maid service with little chocolates, knowledgeable concierge, tennis clinics and awesome tennis courts, great food and views combining mountains and beach. Oh - and on checkout - there's a spare room for showers after the beach before you take off if you have a late night flight (such a nice touch, should be an industry standard really). Totally cool place and people.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel and I'd travel all the way back to Mauna Lani Bay Hotel from England again in a flash!
The hotel itself is beautiful with views to die for! We stayed in an ocean view room and it's was definitely worth the extra pennies... It was lovely!
The service was outstanding, the building itself was amazing... Words and pictures just don't do this place justice. You must see if yourself!

It's just incredible!

We stayed at Mauna Lani for five nights and returned home last week. We had our two teens, 13 and 15 with us, and got adjoining rooms. They were perfection. Fourth floor, overlooking the pool. Thank you Mauna Lani! This was so perfect for us, and the location alone will resonate with us forever. We got the breakfast buffet as part of our package, which equated to 2 per room, so we had breakfast covered for the 4 of us. It was a wonderful buffet, and Arnold who made our omelets each day was so very nice, and calmed our fears about the impending hurricane. He also makes a superb omelet and is funny as well! Thanks, Arnold, also for getting us that grape jelly! The croissants are delicious as is the banana bread and all of the offerings. Eating on the patio was so gorgeous, but I must say the birds know where to get their breakfast as well! We enjoyed the entire experience. The girls who seated us would always fill up my mug with hot water for my tea at any time of day with a smile. I never felt that I was bothering them. Thanks, ladies! I forget the name of the man who works at the pool distributing towels, but he acted as my therapist when I was very fearful of the 2 hurricanes on their way. He was very calming and so great with refilling the jug of water and always setting up our chairs with a friendly and caring disposition. Also, George on the beach is so patient. He gave us our stand-up paddle-board lessons, and boy, he is so good at his job. He actually gave me the confidence I needed to succeed, and got the kids going so well on their first exposure to this activity. His attention was undivided, and we will always remember how he instructed us so well! Thanks, George! Concierge and cleaning staff were perfect and always extremely friendly, treated us like family, truly nice people, always striving to meet our needs whether it was getting us more conditioner, or valeting our car, they were top notch. Front desk staff very nice. We loved the personalized check in with cool towels and juice. Just one thing was tricky. Dinner was pricey for a family of four at 55.00 per head for the dinner buffet. This took me aback when it was offered during the hurricane day since we really had little options for going out. We had planned the day before and went to the grocery store on property, and ate pb and j for dinner. I wish the management would have eased our dinner burden a little. That was steep! But, they did a great job of showing kid-friendly movies with free popcorn and chips, so we were at least occupied for the afternoon when we were no longer able to go outdoors. I also noticed they had gone out of their way to set up brand-new boxes of board games in another conference room. Nice touch. The free bikes were so wonderful, as we rode them to the nearby shopping plaza.
I cannot say enough great things about this resort! The relaxing feel, the fish, turtles and shark swimming in their ponds were soothing and a very special touch. The hotel gets dark at night, but it adds a special something to the atmosphere. I loved the women entertainers who sang Hawaiian songs in the lobby at night.
The chairs on the beach were plentiful, and ALL had padding and coverings for the shade at no extra fee. The seats by the pool were always available, and the pool was always crystal clear and well-maintained. Towels were plentiful, never an issue like some other hotels with towel cards. Pure vacation bliss. I cannot stop thinking about how my family needs to return. The beach was clean, and so beautiful.
Oh, and what a surprise to us, all of the very cool lava rock everywhere, upon entering the property and all over the island. A must do trip, especially with teens!

Room Tip: I had a pool-view and loved it. It's a very quiet and relaxed pool. We loved that there were n...

This was our 2nd stay at the Mauna Lani . Our previous stay was in 2004.
I am pleased to report that the property is as beautiful as ever, if a bit more expensive (even adjusting for inflation).

The great service begins at check-in. You are escorted to a private desk, seated, given a lei, refreshing drink and cold cloth (welcome after the long journey from NY).

We had requested a quiet room, away from sources of noise. The desk clerk informed us we had been upgraded from a mountain facing room to an ocean view room for a quieter location (some of the mountain view rooms face the parking lot). There was a noise audible in the room from a nearby generator. We were a little concerned, but accepted the room. Turns out that the room was also near the hotel's laundry, which also generated audible noise overnight. At over $400 a night, one should not be subject to noise.

The next day we asked for a room change, which the desk clerk cheerfully accomodated. We were moved to another ocean view room away from noise sources and had a wonderful stay.

We especially loved the breakfast buffet on the patio in the mornings. The food is great and the view facing the sea is a great way to wake up. (Watch out for the birds though - they like the food too!).

The rooms had been renovated the year before and are in wonderful shape.

Despite the property's size, it never seems crowded (unlike the Hilton Waikoloa, which seems very crowded).

There is a free, self-service guest laundry which we made use of since we only had carry-on luggage.

All of the staff here is outstanding...they seem to have a real pleasure in delivering good service.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms in the south wing near the hotel laundry - some have noise problems.
