the beach is nice. lots of sand, lots of people. it lacks a certain charm that other beaches in the area have. Still, I cant wait to go back and snorkel it alot more thoroughly.
I was dissapointed that the bar at the pool wouldnt serve me and my girl unless who showed I.D's. I know its the law and all that but they were not carding the fat gray haired old people laying around everywhere. If they have room charge priviledges, they should have the persons age written down...or something other than making me walk all wet and sandy all the way to my room which is on the far far side of the hotel. Plus the hours of the poolside bar were atrocious. Everything in this place stops @ about 5pm and last call for drinks is at like 8 or 9. I mean, is this a resort or a old folks home. because it felt more like a reitrement home at time. the breakfast and dinner are very overpriced for what they are. I think $50 a person for breakfast buffet, and the buffet is like, 1 4x8 table of waffles n cereal. i've been to a motel 6 with better breakfast for free. they have these nice wicker chairs everywhere in their atrium, but, the one I chose had a bee's nest inside of it. i bought some cereal and milk from their little store. $8 for 1 8 oz milk and 1 mini cereal. its not that it cost alot, its that its straight price gouging in every way possible. im ok with paying 300 per night, but why do you need to make an extra $200 a day off me just to live and breath your air. its not that I didnt have the money, its just offensive to pile up the costs like that. there are no ice machines in this hotel. you have to have them send you up ice with a maid which may take some time and prolly cost you another tip. the valet stops working at about 9, so, valet is pointless at this hotel, you have to fetch your own car from the valet parking lot and they still charge you valet costs. this hotel would be awesome if they refocused it towards a younger crowd, and made it way more accomodating, like all inclusive would be great, and stop ripping me off gently on every single possible thing. i could go on and on, it all had such potential but the basic policy and functionality of the hotel really =really= brought it down. ill still go back ill just do it different. to anyone going, ask to be as close to the beach entrance as possible, ask for extra guava juice, they have a refridgerator in the room so come prepared. oh, my lanai had all these dont smoke signs and then a giant cigar burn on the table. i was confused, so i smoked my blunts down on the beach, with the 1000's of crazy sand crabs. circular cup stains on the bedside tables, bathtub floor looked scary. i kept my flip flops on.

Room Tip: ask to be as close to the beach ENTRANCE as possible

Great hotel with a great and friendly staff. Had an ocean front room on the ground floor, which was great with a 6yr old just to walk out and run or throw ball in the large grassy area. very large but basic pool, could use another hot tub. Rooms were nice, nothing special (actually had paint peeling off in the bathroom) but the view from the room was incredible of a great beach. Be prepared for everything to shutdown early. they say the pool is closed at 7 but you can still use it if you are quiet. if you like seclusion this is a great place. golf course to me is overrated, glad I waited to play till the afternoon when rates drop about 50%. sign up for Prince rewards, or whatever it is called, because they gave us free internet with it. if not be prepared to pay close to $12 a day per device!!!

Room Tip: I was able to look at 2 rooms before deciding. first one was premium ocean view which was very disap...

The location could not be better. One of the best beaches in the world. Room was very comfortable and clean. All of the staff very friendly and helpful. Food good and there is also the shuttle to Mauna Kea. Pool area lovely with a good poolside bar. Would love to go back

Rooms where comfortable with nice linens on the beds. Large hotel, so be prepared to walk just to get to different areas. There are beautiful views on the way. The resort is not near any other restaurants, they have a few dinning options and a cafe with take out food. We enjoyed our stay on the beautiful beach. Just 30 minutes to the airport.

Room Tip: Make sure you are not too far from the beach.

Well, with all the talk of "complete contemporary refurbishment" we booked an oceanfront room for a special occasion. VERY DISAPPOINTING!! The marble bathroom and the view are basically all that separates this hotel from a "good" motel. The heyday of the big Hawaiian resorts is long over. Rather than spend hundreds of dollars daily, I suggest booking a vacation rental for the majority of your holiday and end it in an upscale resort such as the fine Mauna Kea Hotel.

We stayed here for our honeymoon for 10 days in June 2014. We had an amazing time. The hotel is lovely, the beach/pool areas are great. It is much quieter in evenings on big island so would recommend having a car but it was perfect for our honeymoon. The service was very mixed though. We were expecting to experience true Hawaiian customer service and having just stayed in the Palazzo in LAs Vegas we wanted great service but probably only got average. We were most disappointed with our first impression as upon check in we had been booked in to a 2 queen bed room, not really ideal for a honeymoon. Now it was our wedding company that booked the room and hadn't told the hotel it was our honeymoon but when the hotel was as deserted as it was (less than 40% occupancy as told by another staff member) we were quite upset that the receptionist did absolutely nothing to try and find us a room with one king size bed. She offered us the chance to pay for an upgraded room at $9 a night which angered us even more, so there were beds available just one that cost slightly more. It wasn't about the money, we had just upgraded at reception for a package to include parking, wifi, coffee & water ($25 a night) already plus eating in the hotel average $70 for 2 for breakfast and $120 for 2 for dinner with a bottle of wine. With all the money we had spent it did upset me that no effort was made for such a special occasion for us. The food and the staff in the coast grille were really nice, including Luther at the bar who was friendly and the receptionist Lee An who checked us out was very helpful also. The setting is beautiful where the hotel is located but it is remote. There is a free shuttle to their sister hotel next door in evenings which is good. The island itself is beautiful with ,lots to see and do if you like the outdoors. Not sure if we would stay at Hapuna Beach again as for the money I expected great service although the beach there is lovely.

Room Tip: Advise hotel before you stay if you are on your honeymoon

We stayed at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel at the end of May and during the Tri-Athlon. It was very exciting to see all of the athletes swimming right off the beach, at the start of the first leg of the race!
Everything about this hotel was fabulous. I am extremely thankful for the excellent customer service at the front desk upon checking in... And all of the hotel staff! The view of the ocean from the hotel lobby was something you only see on the cover of travel magazines (beautiful!!!) Our room was extremely clean and the bathroom was big and in an immaculate condition as well. We had a wonderful view of the ocean from our balcony and had no issues with anything at all. Our room had a king sized bed and was very comfortable with very nice sheets!

The Beach & Pool

We loved Hapuna Beach. I enjoyed some great snorkeling and came across many fish and a sea turtle. Great chairs and umbrellas were set out everyday for shade if needed... Almost every evening we were blessed with amazing sunsets. The pool at this hotel is not huge but my family enjoyed it very much and you can order food/drinks right there. One night we took a hotel van/shuttle to the Mauna Kea Beach hotel for dinner and the only con of our entire stay was that the driver named "Devon" was very rude and not very talkative? There is also a walkway that is a short hike from the Hapuna Beach and is totally doable with the kids.

Overall, the ambience at the Hapuna is very nice / laid back and I loved it.

Food and Location:

I think that if you like to eat seafood, you have to try the "Let's go Crabbing" buffet on Friday nights... It was delicious!

We had the breakfast buffet at the Hapuna couple of days. And the view, along with the food was great. We found the Hapuna to be close to a lot of restaurants in the area. Kawaihae Shopping center is only 10 minutes away and has a great selection of some very good restaurants. Try Lava Lava - We had dinner and it was awesome. We met some locals from Waimea who were extremely friendly and we ended up having a very nice conversation with them.
Next time we come to The Big Island, we will be glad to stay at the Hapuna again!

Aloha and mahalo for your many positive comments. We sincerely appreciate hearing from you and learning what we do best...and learning about those areas that perhaps we need to tweak and improve - so thank you. If not before, perhaps we'll see you for the Honu Triathlon 2015?
