“Well worth a visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

Our visit proved to be a great success. The trip is divided into three sections and we had a guide for each. These local people were great communicators with an evident interest in the subject.

We spent nearly two hours on site and felt we had exptremely good value for modest cost. It's exactly the sort of attraction which will appeal to all ages. Highly recommended.

“A great visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2013

A really interesting museum brought to life by wonderful guides who take you through the authentic miners' experience. We loved setting the charge to blow a hole to get to the next lot of rock. It is chilly down there and we were not warmly dressed enough - perhaps they could put up a notice warning people about this. The information about the mining process and the lives of the people who worked in the mine was comprehensive and fascinating.

A real mine experience, with lots of information from the guides, not for the claustrophobic though!

“Really informative and brilliant value for money”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2013

You learn a lot about the history of ironstone mining, told in a variety of ways: good introductory video, displays with a mercifully small amount of text to read, then a 'live' intro by one of the volunteers, followed by a visit underground (actual drift mine shaft), and then a very detailed explanation of how miners actually recovered the ore from the mine - including sound effects and a few other atmospheric elements. And all of this for £5.50, which puts to shame some better-known attractions which are far pricier and much more superficial. It's also worth wandering down into the village / to the beach afterwards (there's a trail that has an explanatory leaflet).
