“Paying for a great location and an ok room.”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

When we arrived we were initially disappointed. The staff who checked us in were not merely unfriendly, but miserable, thankfully we only needed them for checking in and out again.
Our bungalow was then significantly smaller than that of our friends, who had booked at the same time, our benefit was that ours wasn't close to the building work they had going on in the hotel grounds. It was also a dark room, made darker by feeling the need to keep the curtains to the one small window closed as we were on the ground floor next to the road.
However, it turned out to be perfect in terms of location, literally a 30second walk to the beach, having breakfast on the beach each morning was priceless, and we were also near enough to walk everywhere in Lamai without much effort.
We would stay here again, but would request a different room when the building work is finished. The location is great!

I've stayed at Lamai Inn three times now and every time it's been great. The reception staff are not overly friendly, but they are helpful and efficient.

I booked through an agency and though it was a good deal, the room was located on the ground floor and was quite old and worn. But it was really the sickly green walls and unpleasant smell in that room that put me off. I ended up changing rooms for an extra 200 baht per night to one that was on the second floor overlooking the swimming pool...so worth it! It was much nicer and had its own private terrace.

The hotel is right on the beach so the location is fantastic. They have a restaurant that is quite good, but there are lots of places nearby too.

We stayed here again for the second year, we stumbled upon it last year and had a great room, so we decided to book again, the rooms have grown really tired in 1 year, we had to switch rooms because the first room smelt of smoke (in non-smoking room) and just felt unclean, when we got showed the first room a worm was just crawling across the floor and the receptionist just sweep out the room like that was normal lol. So we asked to see another room which didn't smell, as we both don't smoke! They reception staff look like they all need a good sleep, really slow and unhelpful, they act like everything is an effort! This is completely different to last year! We won't both again, kind of gutting really because it's a great location. Lamai night market is a great place of good food, just next to family Mary, pretty much every night, if you do stay here, I would recommend here to a eat in the evenings :)

When I arrived there was a terrible smell in the room (toilet like). After having notified staff they asked me if I would smoke in the room ( I am a 100% non smoker).
They told me that everything would be normal.
They offered me another room slightly bigger for 500 baht more which I denied.
So I checked out. Staff was extremely unfriendly.
Also the restaurant prices are really high.
Overall I will never stay there again. Rooms are also very dark.
Noise in the night due to heavy drinking and partying people.

We stayed in one of the beach bungalows and they are right on the beach and you have your own sun lounge its just unbeatable.
I wouldn't visit for the breakfast or the food, the restaurant isn't much chop but there are a million places to eat in Lamai.
The cleaning staff were good but the desk staff couldn't be bothered and are disinterested.
The bungalows are clean and the air conditioning works well.

Room Tip: Get one of the beach facing bungalows

Based on everything I had read pre-arrival, I was convinced the location was good but had doubts about what to expect from the hotel. As it turned out any concerns were groundless and we really enjoyed our 5 nights at the Lamai Inn. We booked one of the 4 rooms right on the beach front (room 53) and it was worth every penny of the small additional cost. We were genuinely surprised with the size of the bedroom and bathroom and the range of in room facilities - including tea & coffee making facilities, safe, good quality free wifi, complimentary water, hair dryer etc. These rooms have the additional benefit of a private shaded terrace with good quality, private sun loungers which is a real bonus as the hotel does not provide loungers on the beach. There are plenty of free loungers available at the adjacent restaurants and bars. Great wave noise at night too which is a real treat when drifting off to sleep. A decent breakfast was included, served overlooking the beach by a very helpful and pleasant team of young people. There are plenty of local bars & restaurants on the beach and we particularly enjoyed the food and service at Bamboo which is literally a few footsteps away. The bars, restaurants and food market of Lamai are just a couple of minutes walk from the hotel which provides a nice contrast to the beach area. All in all we really enjoyed our visit and pound for pound the hotel provided excellent value for money.

Room Tip: The closer to the beach you are the more pleasant the experience. Pay a little more and you won'...

I had a pool view room which was smallish but comfortable. My only complaint was it could be a bit noisy in the mornings and the walls were thin. The hotel was well laid out and on the beach, though no sun loungers. It is also very close to the night life, just a couple of minutes away from the boxing ring. Reception were very efficient and helpful. The internet is free and very good. The staff were always smiling and would always acknowledge you. All in all a good value hotel.

Room Tip: Pay a little more if you want peace and quiet in the mornings and don't go for a Pool View room.
