“A meal, plus model railways!”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

My wife and I went to Castle Kitchen for a light lunch after visiting Cilgerran Castle, recently. Lovely food, and delightful service, with the addition, for the model railway enthusiast or youngsters in your party, of a working 'oo' guage layout, which the owners happily switched on for us to view, and a good collection of 'oo' and 'o' guage rolling stock displayed around the walls. Obviously we cannot comment on the evening meals, or how things are when they're busy, as we went in the middle of the day, mid week, when they were quiet, but we'll certainly go again.

“good old fashioned dining with excellent service”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

Recently visited here for a birthday meal. We received a welcome from the owners, one of which is the chef as we arrived. There was even a birthday banner put up behind our table. We all enjoyed good starters and mains, and excellent puddings (huge choice of puds, each one we tried was lovely). very generous portions and the vegetables that came with the mains were varied, generous and very tasty. The restaurant has a lovely charming feel to it and lots of intrigue - particularly for railway enthusiasts!

We have just come back from a meal at Castle Kitchen it really was a hidden gem.
There were 4 of us I had lamb cutlets the others of the party had chicken,Sea bass, and steak .
The deserts were amazing 2 of us had baked Alaska the others had a chocolate desert and a coffee and meringue desert which were all amazing, just remember the baked Alaska is huge and everything is cooked fresh, the owners were great it was more like going to friends for a meal than going to a normal restaurant and if you are a railway enthusiast this is the place to go highly recommended

“A trip back in time........”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

We visited the Castle Kitchen last week when spending a week in the village for a pre- Xmas break. We wanted a nice meal to finish the holiday and had read good reviews. We had a great "retro" evening as we were treated to a delight of 70's classics all accompanied by a mountain of seasonal vegetables. The restaurant is a cosy cottage style full of vintage Hornby Trains and rolling stock - a lifetime's collection and so unusual. I enjoyed a lovely pate and my wife had baked Brie. For mains I had a nicely tender steak in a peppercorn sauce - for desert it was profiteroles and raspberry sorbet time! All well cooked and reasonably priced with a lovely Rioja. All that and we got Santa too on his sleigh riding past from the local Rotary Club! Quite a night! Thanks for a great evening - just what we were looking for.

“A Hidden Treasure”
Reviewed 22 October 2013

Having wanted to take two friends out for a special meal, we could do no better than visit Castle Kitchen. The fare was excellent, and plenty of it too, offering great value for money. Pat and Mary gave us a night out that the four of us are still talking about.

The transport models of a bygone era are a joy to behold, as are the railway artworks, even if transport is not your 'thing', and Pat is more than happy to discuss his collection with you.

I can not believe it has taken me so long to get around to visiting Castle Kitchen - the return visit will be very soon I am sure.

Thank you Pat and Mary.
