“Great room, great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 February 2014 via mobile

Usual Premier Inn standard - warm welcome on arrival with a little game for the children (find the ducks hidden in your room & return them to reception for a small prize - thought our boys might be a bit old for it but they loved it!!) Clean room, wall heater not working so a plug in heater had been set up for us (we were given complimentary breakfast as an apology for this which was much appreciated)As it turned out the replacement heater was more than adequate, if anything the room was too warm! Bathroom was small but perfectly ok for one night stay, was clean and plenty of hot water, shower was fine too. Bedding clean and beds comfortable, TV had lots of channels. Some noise from outside (we were at the front over the hotel entrance) but not enough to really disturb us, and we all four woke to hear someone talking very loudly at about 4.30am as they walked past our room, but hotel can't be held responsible for inconsiderate guests! Breakfast was in the hotel and not (as I think is usual in Premier Inn) at a restaurant next door, it was really good - self serve buffet for both full English and for Continental, plenty of food all looked fresh and tasted great.
Overall a great stay for a bargain price!!

We had a very straightforward arrival. The hotel is easily accessible from the motorway and from St Albans. It has a large car park with plenty of spaces at mid afternoon on a Saturday, and throughout the rest of the weekend. The receptionist was pleasant and efficient and there was no queue to check in, and no queues at other times of the day as we passed through reception. They had correct booking details for us.

The room was warm, clean and comfortably furnished as with all the various Premier Inns around the South of England that I have used. The bathroom was equally clean, modern and in good working order, with enough towels for the 3 of us. Yes there is only a shower, not a bath, in this hotel, but that was fine for our one night stay. Our room faced the car park (which it shares with the adjacent Harvester) and busy “A” road, but there were no problems with noise. The TV has nearly the full range of Freeview TV channels, which is excellent.

The hotel is not directly in the town centre, we did not see anything of note within walking distance; but it's a fairly short drive to Harpenden and a bit further to St. Albans. The location is excellent for getting about to explore Hertfordshire. We had originally looked at pubs in Harpenden that provide B&B, but we immediately rejected them in favour of this hotel because the price and quality were a much better option here.

Breakfast is served in a dining area in the hotel, not in the Harvester next door. Breakfast was buffet style, and was good quality, with a wide selection of hot and cold food. The price of a full English breakfast (£8.25) if you haven’t got it included in your room rate seemed expensive, but you can have as much as you want to get your money's worth. The continental breakfast is only £5.25, and there was a takeaway breakfast for £2.99. Children eat free at breakfast, which is a great deal.

Despite the very comfortable bed and pillows, unfortunately my sleep was disturbed. I was woken in the middle of the night by the sound of the people in the room above, and could not get back to sleep. I reported this to the receptionist the following morning. She said they normally call guests a day or two before arriving, to check details, and at this point they would ask if guests wanted an upstairs room to avoid such problems. I had no such call. I never have from any Premier Inn prior to arrival. Anyway, they did honour their “Good night guarantee” and refund the cost of our stay. This is an excellent policy. Although I would have swapped the refund for an undisturbed sleep, the refund is a good compensation; and was paid into my bank account just a couple of days later. Impeccable customer service.

For the rate per room: £29 per night, for 3 of us staying in it, on an advance booking, it was excellent value for money: being clean, secure, comfortable and in the right location. We would definitely stay again if we could get the same rate, and provided that they could guarantee us in advance an upstairs room.

Room Tip: Request an upstairs room. Our downstairs room suffered from noise of the people in the room above at...

As a family of 4 with a 15 year old and a 12 year old, we used a family room at this Premier Inn. We wanted a location accessible from the motorway as we were arriving later on Friday evening. The reception staff were excellent when we arrived and checked us in quickly and with minimal fuss. As ever, the room was spotless - albeit a little on the small side for a family room with 2 teenagers - we have used larger family rooms before at Premier Inn.
The breakfast staff were excellent - couldn't do enough to help and the quality and value for money of the breakfast was excellent. We stayed 3 nights and used the hotel as a base for London, family in St Albans and some business in Watford. Definitely use this Premier Inn again.

Excellent service and value for money. Paul was particularly helpful when we arrived at 10.30am and allowed early access to our room to drop off bags. We were then offered free hot drinks whilst we waited for our bus to town.

Having read reviews prior to our arrival I can confirm that the staff and the standards within the Premier Lodge were as usual very good ( regular Premier visitor)
The attached Harvester pub was an experience. We sat in the bar area whilst available room was found for our party. Staff were friendly and the food was fine.
The floors and tables were very dirty and the toilets were disgraceful.
My wife and I actually got up and moved tables due to being able to smell the toilets through the closed doors into the bar area. Its 2014 !!!! you are serving the public - get your act together with regard basic and essential hygiene in toilet areas - the place should be closed until management address the situation - would never visit the pub again - but the highly respected hotel chain should resolve the issues as high priority !!!! travellers beware of the Harvester pub......don't go to the loo !

Conveniently positioned for Luton Airport (10-15 minutes drive). Cheap, clean and comfortable. TV & hot drink making facilities in bedroom. Bed very comfortable. Soap from bathroom basin and shower dispensers never seems adequate, so glad I took my own soap.

As per usual you know exactly what to expect from a premier inn, clean and well laid out rooms. The staff in this premier inn were excellent, very friendly, from reception, breakfast chef and cleaning staff. We joked about having a noisy room as we were overlooking road and car park - in fact the secondary glazed windows were great soundproofers
