“Good traditional Lakeland pub”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

Have visited the Britannia Inn many times over the years during Lake District visits. Last time we just dropped in for a drink at the end of a walk. The outside seating area was really nice and it was lovely to relax and recover under a sun shade!

“Superb restaurant”
Reviewed 8 August 2014

This pub/hotel is in the delightful village of Elterwater in the heart of the Lake District and this pub is the epicentre of the place. We recently stayed in the village with some friends and we ate here three times in the week and were delighted every time. The real ale is magnificent, try the Bluebird which is a great session ale but they also have their own ale unique to the Britannia which is also terrific.
The food is not pub food it is restaurant quality and at restaurant prices but it really is value for money. You can dine outside without booking which on a nice night is the preferred option but if you want to eat inside there is the small bar area and a very nice restaurant but you will need to book as it is so popular. Service is friendly but not quick but in this environment it is well worth the wait.
Dogs are welcome but I think only outside.
Give it a try you will love it.

“Not so light lunch!!”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Called in on our walk just wanting a light lunch, we decided on sandwiches and thought we had better get a basket of chips between us. Forgot how big the portions were at the brit, really chunky barms and a massive portion of chips, needless to say we struggled to get through everything!!

Back in the area in 8 weeks and no doubt will be back at the brit.

“Book for dinner- otherwise you wont get in”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

If you want dinner - make a booking ; the dining room is popular ( looks like there's an upmarket self catering complex nearby ) - so demand outstrips capacity. Staff will suggest that if you can find a table in the pub , that you can eat - but this pub is so small its a bit of a squeeze. In good weather, the outside tables are packed solid. The food is excellent though.

“It's a thumbs up from us...”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Stayed locally and visited The Britannia Inn three nights on the trot. Nice atmosphere, great service and the food was divine. If you're in the area we recommend popping in for chilled afternoon drinks or sampling their extensive menu (creme brûlée: best ever!)
