Went to this place in November 2013 only to find a real gem hidden in Goa. The place is really secluded from the crowded beaches and hustle and bustle of the city. Hosts Roberto and Raquel are the best hosts a homestay can offer. They took all the trouble to serve us even the smallest of the meals in the rooms, as my mom would not go to the kitchen because of cats. The guest-rooms are big, clean and tastefully decorated with all the antique furniture. We wanted to explore the unconventional side of Goa during this vacation and Roberto helped us plan our itinerary.
They serve authentic, lip-smacking Goan food with so much love that you are bound to put on a few pounds by the time you leave.
If you have a sweet tooth, do request Raquel for some cakes. She makes them real nice. Also, chicken xacuti is a must try for the non-veg lovers.
All in all, we loved every single moment during our stay at this place. Looking forward to our next visit.

Just back from my nth visit to Goa with one big regret……shoulda discovered Cancio’s House much, much earlier. To me, Cancio’s embodies the true Goan culture – the people, their warmth, the old world houses and ambience. It completes the Goan experience which was earlier missing when one returned to the ‘hotel’.
The warm extended right from the sprightly (her daily 3km walk to church & sunny disposition defies the fact that she’s in her mid-eighties) Mrs. Amaral, high energy Roberto, his wife Raquel, why, even right down to the gurgling baby Rafael, his brothers Harrison and Antonio and their shepherd Jess. Roberto and Raquel enthusiastically took me around their heritage house where the old world furniture, kitchen, wood fired water heater etc. were intriguing.
The spotless cottage exuded the old world charm – the high roofed wood ceiling and lovingly restored four poster, dresser and cupboards. TV, Wi-fi were among the few concessions to our modern day addictions.
The wooded ambience in the compound and surrounding area was especially calming, what with the multiple birdcalls in the morning.
Thank you Raquel and Roberto. The next time I’m in Goa, Cancio’s it will be.
Thomas M.

Though I had seen pictures and read reviews about this place, what awaited me at Cancio's house was beyond expectations.
We stayed at the cottage with two beautiful rooms and a small sit out area. The rooms were very clean and spacious with fine-looking antique furniture. Other facilities include cable tv, wi-fi, hot water. You can also enjoy the scenic view of the garden, few beautiful birds or take a walk around the village, its old goan houses, fields, chapels and church.
But like most people mentioned, what truly touches you is the hospitality. Roberto and Raquel are such wonderful people I must say. It’s not surprising that guests feel like a part of their family. Roberto was kind enough to take us through his 500 year old house and its history and was ever ready to help us with anything we need, especially travel plans and routes. Raquel too shared lots of stories, treated us to her homemade goodies and also invited us for a goan dinner at their home. Not to mention Mrs. Amaral, the plant lover, and the adorable kids. Oh, did I mention about the Yacht managed by Roberto?
It was such a pleasure meeting this lovely family and spending two days at Cancio's house. If you like to explore the villages, get to know people and experience a peaceful stay, away from the hustle and bustle of the regular tourist destinations, then I would strongly recommend Cancio’s.

Take in all you can at this place cause you're sure going to miss it.
We stayed here and loved it.
My parents stayed here 4 years later and they absolutely loved it.

Only difference is the owners of this place now have 3 wonderful children instead of 2.

Staying at Cancios House was the best thing I did while holidaying in Goa. It was haven of peace & quiet away from the bustle of the beachside & towns. Roberto & his family were most accommodating, providing a clean & beautifully appointed guest house, nutritious breakfasts with the family, great advice on places to visit, lots of information on local history, and arranging transportation for tourist trips. The Amarals are very generous & caring hosts" I look forward to visiting then again soon.

Room Tip: The west guest room is quieter & sheltered

Cancio's house is an ancient property in the heart of Aldona village in goa. It is an ideal place to relax, faraway from the commercial ambience a hotel has to offer. This place is run by a loving family consisting of a couple,Roberto& Raquel and their mother Mrs Amaral. Its an ideal place to unwind, faraway from the bustle of city life. It has a couple of cottages in the estate which are extremely well mantained with attached toilets and a nice compound with an upper deck. The friendly Goan culture is evident from the owners and their 3 children, not forgetting to mention an overfriendly dog who chased our car for a kilometre when we went for sightseeing in the vicinity. The house has a couple of animals in the estate itself.Spacious rooms and clean attached toilets add to the luxury. The lovely breakfast prepared by the lady of the house was another highlight of the 3 day visit. Aldona is centrally connected to most of the parts of Goa which one wishes to explore. Kudos to this loving family for giving us an experience for a lifetime for us to cherish.
