Grand Hyatt is a visual treat and full marks for it but it was our nightmare to host event there. I am hosting events in India and abroad for last twenty years with all major hotel chains. But this was the only bad experience we have had. Grand Hyatt may have one of the large facilities but they do not know how to handle a group. We were hosting our 180 customers for two nights conference. The food was not upto the mark and the dishes were lying empty and no one to take care, bread/roti were coming half baked. Cleaning was the worst, no housekeeping or banquet staff to clean the hall. They even cheated by not delivering for paid and pre decided beverage package. Un cooperative staff who would not deliver even simple things . Think thrice not twice if you plan to host any event here.

It was indeed a pleasure to stay at this majestic hotel.. stayed here for 4N 5D with the Breakfast+dinner package... Built over 28 acres of land, it is one of the most beautiful properties in goa... I haven't stayed at other 5 star hotels in goa, so i cannot judge them.. So i am going to sum up my reviews with a few pros and cons of this hotel and a few things for the guests to keep in mind.

PROS: 1) beautiful property
2) private bay (don't mistake it for a beach)
3) Spacious rooms and bath-rooms
4) Bay-view rooms actually have an amazing view
5) 3 restaurants (the DINING ROOM- for buffet.... The Varendah-mainly for sea-food.... the CHULAH- for indian food) and 1 bar
6) Staff at the restaurants were very helpful and friendly.. Especially Chef Chetan at 'The Dining Room' was very sweet and it seemed that he was genuinely happy to cook food for us..
7) Outdoor and Indoor pools... Complimentary Steam and Sauna, gym and Jacuzzi.. All state of the art..

CONS:
1) Cannot go to the swimming pool without the proper swim-suit. My wife didn't have one. We had to buy one for her. They charged us Rs1650. The MRP was 1400.. They charged tax on top of it. There is never a tax on clothes... This was true cheating!!!!
2) Bay was full of stones and stray dogs..
3) The Chulah restaurant was not all that great. They have a set-menu for guests who have dinner included in their package. Not many options.. I had Murgh Tikka for starters and it was burnt.. 5 star hotels don't normally serve burnt food.. so i could not understand the reason why they did that
4) repetitive food for breakfast and dinner... got bored having the same things over and over again
5) Our Air conditioning malfunctioned during the second night of our stay and all night we felt uncomfortable not knowing the reason for the discomfort. The next day when we realized the AC was not working, we called the housekeeping and they fixed it straight away. But no compensation for the "no-sleep" night that we went through
6) Since it is a huge property, the restaurant and the guest rooms and very far from each other. When we ordered through room-service, it took more than an hour.. even though our order was very small..
7) During Check-out, the guy at the reception didn't seem courteous at all. Checking-in was nice where they made us feel special.. but during check-out, they had just lost respect for their guests...
8) they had mistakenly charged me for the dinner at The Chulah... It got sorted out but a lot of time was wasted.

POINTS TO REMEMBER:
1) Take a bay-view room for sure...
2) If you want to go to the city, don't take the taxi from the hotel. You will find plenty taxi drivers at the hotel gate.. You need to negotiate with them, but in any case, they will be cheaper than the hotel taxis...
3) Ask for Chef Chetan at 'the dining room'.. He will make yummy pastas, pizzas and grilled meat for you on your request... and he will be happy to do it.. :-)

Have a great time... Hope my review was useful.. :-)

One of the best hotels in Goa. It's a sprawling property with a private beach and an awesome pool. The rooms are spacious as well and the service is excellent. The food also is also great. All in all a good place to relax and rejuvenate in Goa!

Room Tip: One's facing the beach of-course!

I had been working without a break for nearly a year and a half. When I finally managed to take a 2 day break, it was sooo worth every minute. The Grand Hyatt is a sprawling well maintained property. The entrance to the Hotel is kind of manky . There are random cars , service vehicles and lorries parked at its different entrances. However , once inside , its the very embodiment of calm and pristine beauty. The many apartment blocks or guest houses are sprinkled over the huge hotel premises. The restaurants are situated in the main hotel building and the reception is on the first floor level. The reception is not much to talk of , however once you are past that and moving towards the rooms, is when the spirit of the place seizes you. I love trees and this place is full of gorgeous trees. Amazing frangipani is blooming at every nook , Gardenia bushes , roses . lillies, anthuriums and the local Bakula. The place was a treat for all seses. The colours, the lingering frangrances of all the flowers dominating their immediate surroundings, the sound of the gentle waves and birds. The unhurried pace of the hotel staff. every action is soothing. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The balcony has a welcoming seating arrangements. Its easy to loose track of time and fall asleep almost anywhere. I've tried staying awake on the sofa in the balcony, the deck chairs and even the wooden steps leading down to the beach, but its a loosing battle is all I can say. The small private beach is littered with mother of pearl and little red pebbles. I walked there at 6 am on both days and then again in the evening after the sun cooled down. Even the walk was so therapeutic. Then the gym . Well maintained and attended to . The in house trainer was very attentive and helped me with my normal workout regime.I really needed to step up my workout to deal with the food I was consuming. Dont expect the most authentic goan food experience here ( That you must look for in the village hotels) But the spread the hotel puts out is amazing. Food is flavourful, seasoned just so. The fruits , breads, vegetables are fresh. The fresh juices are great to unwind with. The 2 days went by in a snap. The experience stays on.
