“Great vibe, great value for money”

Stayed here for a long weekend. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The camp is clean, the units are spaced nicely apart so that you have your privacy, the rooms are basic but sufficient. And the pricing is very reasonable.

For self-catering there are ample facilities and the kitchen is set up well.

It is a 1 hr walk to the beach but they will transport you for R100 pp return. They offer various activities in the Bay at very reasonable prices.

Room Tip: Rooms 1-5 are closer to the kitchen (1 is the closest). Rooms 6 - 10 are further away from the kitch...

We had a fantastic time at Amangwane! Juliet is such an amazing cook, we weren't hungry for a single second...and Vosi is the nicest man you will ever meet; together they make Amangwane feel like home!
The cabins are clean and comfortable, everything you need when spending all of your time at the estuary/beach! The view from the camp lookout is breathtaking, especially seeing the estuary full of handmade fish traps...so amazing.
When there, take the opportunity to try your hand at spear fishing! It's such an interesting and fun experience! Also, you must take the time to go snorkelling in the estuary,we saw such amazing fish life! Including, eels, rays, and a wealth of colourful tropical fish...it's wonderful!
Ultimately, whether snorkelling in the estuary or playing in the ocean waves or just reading a book at camp, Amangwane is such an amazing place that we/you are sure to remember forever!

Unfortunately we spent in Amangwane-Kosi Bay only few days because of the lack of time. It is located in the area with a gorgeous landscape with a most beautiful beach i have ever seen before . It is very beautiful and calm place suitable for staying there with your friends, with family .
Lodges are clean and there is everything you need for your comfortable and pleasant staying. Beautiful Estuary is very good for snorkelling and swiming . I had a splendid opportunity there to learn about traditional fish traps. Staff are friendly and helpful . Meals are delicious as well .
Next year i will stay there for more days!
Thank you very much Amangwane - Kosi Bay for such unforgetable experience!

Room Tip: My room was the best one, because it was mine! :)

What a great place to stay, clean and comfortable cabins, easy walk to the Kosi Bay Mouth. Fantastic catering facilities and such helpful staff Vosi and Themba. Vosi will take and pick you up form the beach if required. Themba is a welth of information about the histroy of the area.

Great location for: relaxing, kayaking & snorkelling in a beautiful setting, Tasty meals, followed by relaxing around a fire-pit, star gazing. Opportunities to learn about the traditional hand-made fish traps, passed down from generation to generation, for over 200 years, trapping fish moving in and out of the estuary with the tide, before spearing some fish, which were wrapped in banana leaves and BBQ'd on the fire pit for supper. Excellent opportunities for interacting with the locals including: a visit to the primary school, visiting a Zulu homestead, boat trips in the lakes. The lodges were clean and comfortable and the staff were kind and keen to ensure each guests stay was right.

I have to say that the accommodation was very good and quite rustic. The staff were very helpful and the food prepared was delicious. Peanut soup? Yes that's right and it was very tasty. The lodges were perfect and the surrounding camp added to the experience. Hot drinks were available all day and sitting by the camp fire at night and chatting was good fun. At 10 all lights go out as the generator is turned off. No big deal just have a torch with you. Great stay!

Amangwane gives you a real African experience. The lodges are basic but comfortable with en suite toilet and shower. The electricity in the camp is supplied with solar energy during the day with each lodge equipped with a battery which can be used to charge cameras, phones etc but only using a USB connection. After 5 o'clock until 10 in the evening a generator is turned on which provides light in lodges and in the kitchen area, after 10 solar energy can light the lodges but sometimes if you have drained the battery during the day you will be left with a blinking light or no light so make sure to bring a torch.
The food prepared in the lodge is pretty good and is well varied from one night to the next but if you are successful at the fish traps on the bay they will cook the catch for you.
The lodge manager Vusi is very pleasant and brought us to visit a neighbouring village where we went inside a families ceremonial hut and they prepared some palm wine for us.
The lodge is located about 30 minutes walk through the bush to a beautiful beach where you can swim, snorkel and kayak. Vusi also organised a local fisherman to demonstrate the fish traps which are an impressive sight from the top of the hill looking down onto the bay.
Suitable for all types of guests.

Our community camp is a rustic haven in the dunes surrounding the lakes of Kosi Bay. Situated just 10-minutes 4x4 drive from the beach and the stunningly beautiful bay with its incredible 'aquarium' for snorkelling. The reed chalets, which are very basic but comfortable, each have twin beds and an en-suite shower and toilet. This is a no-frills, non-luxury destination. We recommend it for adventurous travellers that like to get away from 'civilisation'. We offer DB&B or self-catering accommodation (the kitchen is communal). Activities available: snorkelling, kayaking, cultural fish-trap tours, short hikes, boat trips, turtle tours (November to January). ... more   less
