I stayed in Stonehurst Guesthouse in May just before the world Cup. It has an ideal location in Sea Point a few kms on the very quick highway from the city centre. It is very close to the new Green Point soccer stadium. The guesthouse itself was built in the late 19th century and features many original fittings and period furniture typical of a Capetown House of the time with a beautiful courtyard covered in flowers.
My highly unusual bedroom was located in the basement and was carefully colour-coordinated with whitewashed walls and traditional colonial furniture. There was starched white bed linen, an ensuite bathroom and Persian rugs.
The manager Don and owner Jan were very friendly; it was a genuine pleasure to be invited to stay in their house. All in all it was an aesthetic experience, superb value and a real pleasure to visit. I would certainly return and recommend it to anybody.
