“The highlight of our Sri Lanka trip!”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Quite simply this was the highlight of our 2 week family holiday in Sri Lanka. Well located in the “cultural triangle” it is the perfect base for exploration each day to the key attractions. We originally booked 3 nights however due to our own mix up with our driver and guide we ended up with 4, which was perfect – in fact we were sad to leave!

Ulagalla is really a destination in itself with spread out accommodations in a safari style. We were travelling as a family and booked the 2 bedroom villa with pool – this was excellent. One of the best parts was riding bikes to and from the main house which meant the kids had real freedom to come and go.

The staff was all local Sri Lankan, immensely friendly and welcoming to our family. Special thanks to “Anu” who was just fabulous with the children and us!

The food was great, varied and fresh – we learnt so much here with regards to local cuisine – the best egg hoppers of our trip! (a rice pancake dish shaped with an egg and sambal etc on the side)

Overall a great stay and a highlight of our trip.

I LOVED this place. We LOVED this place. It's incredible. As a honeymoon couple we were blown away by the exceptional privacy of the chalets and their individual private plunge pools. The facilities are of a very high standard with all the mod cons you could possibly wish for (except a decent hairdryer!). My favourite luxury was the Bluetooth sound system that could link with the music on my phone and radiate all around the chalet. The golf-buggy chauffeurs were awesome and also the complimentary bikes stowed under the chalet for personal use around the 58 acre site. My husband even went on a complimentary bike tour of the local village with a guide from the hotel.
I enjoyed an incredible massage at the spa... A beautiful space hidden away under a giant rock, with surrounding pond. I don't think the food matched the quality of the hotel but it was by no means bad, and the breakfasts were especially delicious. A truly magical place.

We stayed in the resort only one night and it was not enough. It is a beautiful resort with many things to admire and experience- the house, the quiet pool, the green surroundings, wildlife, the wonderful staff and excellent food. We were made to feel very special. The chalets were very private with own deck and plunge pool and all modern amenities. The room was very spacious, there was also a living room, both very tastefully decorated. I would suggest anyone planning to go there to set aside at least 2-3 days.

Ulagalla resort is like nothing I had ever experienced. Spread out over a considerable area, the villas are dotted about in seclusion but just a call away are the lovely golf cart drivers who will take you to breakfast, dinner or just the pool. Alternatively, you can get about using the helpfully provided bikes. What a great way to start the day - cycling to breakfast! The food was top notch but the villas with their private plunge pools were something else. With a full size lounge, a large four poster bedroom and a large beautiful bathroom it felt like a full-sized house! The staff are very helpful and not stuffy at all. The food is also reasonably priced for a top hotel. There is only one little issue that the hotel needs to fix and that is the tiles in the main pool. Some of them are cracked and the staff took great care in telling everyone to be careful. However, for an amazing hotel such as this (which obviously isn't the cheapest either), this does need dealing with as the pool is so beautiful. Another tip is to book more than a week in advance to get a good deal. If you are in Sri Lanka make this part of your trip!

We only stayed for three nights and wished we had stayed longer! This resort is incredible..... The service is exceptional and the Villas beautiful! I could rave on and on about this place but we stayed there right at the end of our Sri Lankan tour and we obviously saved the BEST until last! We WILL be back...!!

During our 3 weeks roundtrip in Sri Lanka we stayed at many hotels, but this one was, without any doubt, the best! From the arrival until your departure, the staff is delivering an unforgettable experience.
All rooms (villa's with private plunge pool) have a lot of privacy and comfort and mountainbikes are included. You need these, because the resort is very big. If you don' t want to use them, the staff brings you anywhere in one of the golf buggy's and if you are lucky, you will meet the nicest member of the staff. I have included his picture, because he deserves it. What a great guy!!!
We recommend using the bikes, because it's a great way to explore the resort and surroundings. Also the restaurant is very good and has a fantastic ambiance.
Highly recommended!
