You could quite easily drive past the vicinity, not realising the holiday cottage is there, set amid a line of similar terraced cottages. (But don't be put off, as you will receive directions before you embark on the journey).Step inside Leeshaw, however, and you cannot fail to experience the vista: the surroundings will never tire you. No matter what the weather has on offer, the view is quite stunning and breath taking. Leeshaw Cottage overlooks a once glaciated valley, dating back to the Great Ice Age, with its numerous tributary valleys interlinking.
The cottage itself, despite its geographical isolation high up in the Pennines, is a very comfortable and well-equipped place. The couple who own the cottage live there for much of the year, but rent it out to holiday- makers. Everything has been well thought out in terms of domestic convenience (Kitchenware, bedding, etc).
Car parking is not a problem, but where possible, come with decent walking boots to really appreciate the potential. The village of Oxenhope is just over a mile from Leeshaw, with a few simple, convenience stores and its very interesting steam railway. In a different direction and a little further to walk is Howarth, which is a fascinating little place - being the focus of Bronte Country.
Out and beyond is Howarth Moor. And whatever you do, don't venture in ordinary shoes as I foolishly did! Go prepared for all eventuality. Top Withens, which marks the spot on which Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights" is based, is something of a pilgrimage for many of us! I can promise you a great holiday.
What a wonderful location! A cottage full of character and warmth with the most beautiful view to wake up to each morning. Just a stones throw from Howarth, good walking country, local pubs and eateries on offer. Everything was within easy reach and what a warm welcome from the owners. The little touches make this better than home away from home. Well equipped, this cottage had all I needed whilst still offering space to stretch out into! Would I go back...I already have!
This is a great cottage, beautiful view overlooking the dales from the lounge and main bedroom, peaceful, comfortable and very homely, great places to visit within a short drive, or nice walks from the cottage, Tracey & Micheal were very helpful and wanted to ensure we enjoyed our stay, we will visit again. Highly recommended
