A very pleasant and unexpectedly high quality stay. A Lovely, spotlessly clean and thoughtfully presented home that welcomes you in (particularly with home made cake). The breakfasts were one of the best we've ever had in any overnight accommodation. i would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone - and in fact I already have!!

We had a wonderful time. Philip and Pat were so accomodating and very helpful. Lovely room, beautiful accommodation and a great breakfast. It's also a lovely part of the country. We'd love to come back

Swanson House is a converted coaching inn in the centre of Brough, so is well located for onward journeys to anywhere in England - of if the snow gates are likely to be closed on the A66! There are two parking spaces round the back, off Swan Avenue, one for each of the two guest rooms.
We stayed on the night of New Year's Eve and received a very warm welcome from Philip and Pat. Philip showed us to our room (Odette), which was HUGE and also to the now famous pantry, which had home-made mini mince pies on offer as well as real milk for the tea and coffee (take note, some of you posh hotels that offer nasty UHT).
Despite being a cold night, the room was lovely and warm and the bed, a king size, had a good quality duvet, for when the heating switched off at night. The white bedlinen was clean and of excellent quality. You are each supplied with a bathsheet, hand towel and towelling robe, while there are a number of eco-friendly bath and shower products in the large bathroom, along with flannels. There is a large bath and good size shower. The bath takes a long time to run in but is worth it for a soak, while the electric shower is excellent.
As other guests have noted, there is bottled Buxton water on offer for drinking (useful, as the tap water in the village tastes of chlorine).
Being an old building, it can be a bit creakey for those not used to it, particularly when people are walking around, and there can also be a bit of noise if the restaurant is running and you want an early night.
Breakfast is very good, with fresh fruit and youghurt on offer as a "first course", as well as the usual range of commercial cereals. The ingredients for the cooked breakfast are sourced from local farms and suppliers and are well cooked - very nice scrambled eggs and no grease in sight. The pancakes with fresh fruit and maple syrup, that Jean had, were to die for - she was even offered seconds! It would be nice if the orange juice had been freshly squeezed but that's just being picky, really.
Throughout our stay we were made very welcome and we wanted for nothing. I can heartily recommend a stay to anyone planning to visit or pass through the area. B&B for 2 was £100 - they do discounted dinners for guests but you HAVE to pre-book and pre-order.

Room Tip: Odette is huge with a double bed; cygnet is also large and has twins - take your choice.

Booked both rooms for a family visit to a relative living locally and had a lovely stay at Swanson House. Philip and Pat are excellent hosts. Rooms were very spacious, modern and excellently maintained will loads of extras (robes, cafetiere, buscuits, cakes, bottled water). Breakfast is cooked to your individual order and the 3-course evening meal in their small restaurant was exceptional although the menu might not be to everyone's taste. We thoroughly enjoyed the home made Game pie (made with local venison, rabbit, duck and pheasant) and the local cheeseboard was really good. Coincidentally, there was a farmers market on Saturday which was truly local farmers and we bought quite a few items and kept them in the provided fridge.

We found this hotel on google as we were working in the area, really nice place and excellent value for money too. The Staff were very friendly and rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was lovely. Pitty we were only in the area for one evening. We will definately be back when we are next in the area!
