Review of Salmon Cove Sands

Salmon Cove Sands
Reviewed 23 August 2013

This is a lovely beach situated 1.5 hours from St. John's. All you have to do is follow highway signs to Carbonear then continue to Salmon Cove. At the start of the road to Salmon Cove Sands there is a large sign pointed down the road. You can't miss the sign! It's what helped me to go in the right direction. Then just follow the road to the very end.

The beach is well maintained with no noticeable trash. There was a fee of $2.50/person to get in the park or $7/vehicle. The added bonus was the place is dog friendly they just have to remain on a leash. The beach is accessible with short trail to follow that brings you the beach. The parking is very nice, there are outhouses with hand-sanitizer, picnic area, beach volleyball area, lookout, walking trail, canteen area (I noticed the sign for it but did not go), and the beach has a greyish (pea) sand. Going in the water was great for children as you could walk out some distance in different parts of the beach before it got very deep.

Well worth a visit! While the water isn't the warmest the atmosphere is very relaxing.

Visited the beach July 28-31. There is a small admission fee. Dog friendly beach. Outhouses with hand sanitizer and toilet paper. Change rooms near the beach, with boardwalk and 2 gazebos with picnic tables. The sand is dark and soft, some seaweed along the shore. Nice place for a swim. The view of the rock structures in the water are beautiful. There is also a large volleyball net set up for use on the beach. There is also a small canteen in the parking lot area. Will visit this beach again, very nice.

The North Atlantic water was cold. However, the rugged setting and clear water was breathtaking. The sand was dark and fine. I was told that between Northern Bay Sands and Salmon Cove Sands, Salmon Cove was better.

It was only 10 degrees today but my four kids and I still enjoyed the view and playtime in the sand. It's such a peaceful place to visit all the time
