“GREAT SITE ...... tatty caravan”
Reviewed 8 June 2011

Stayed here for a week in static caravan.Site was immaculate, nice pool & park for kids.
Nothing stocked in reception so shop elsewhere. We booked caravan near park, very dissapointed with condition. The Waverely boasts 4* but sadly our van fell very short!!
We had 2 mouldy pillows,Trims missing off internal walls, spot lights in kitchen were actually smashed off fitment, kitchen blind did not work.We were told caravans did not have dvd players much to the disapointment of my 5 year old only to find a tv/dvd combi in caravan !!! Walls had crayons etc on them.Dining room light didnt work.Front door didnt latch back properly so if windy (and it was) the door flung back slamming itself shut ! Not good for little fingers!! Nice brick bbq outside van but when car parked on concrete you couldnt use it
On a positive not great views good bar ,not to roudy! Food was good but waited nearly an hour on first night & things were over cooked etc should have said something but just got there after nightmare 5hour journey(normally 3 Hours).
I could havre mentioned above faults on arrival but I feel end of May is start of season & on a 4* site these things just simply should not be happening!!Who is not checking for mouldy pillows broken lights etc etc
Overall great holiday thankyou again isle of wight!!!
Would consider Waverely again but stayed at to many cleaner caravans on the island.

Our first trip to the IOW was spent at Waverley Park. I travelled with my wife, in-laws and my 3 yr old son. We're not seasoned "caravaners", so we didn't know what to expect. However, upon arrival we were very pleased with our choice of Waverely Park. We had an 8 birth caravan overlooking the coast (which was two minute walk away). The caravan itself was modern, clean and very roomy. On site there's a bar, childrens playground, games room laundrette and hot showers for campers (the caravans have more than adequate showers). The site also has an outdoor pool - but as we stayed out of season - it was closed. Nearby is the ferry terminal (it's walkable from the park), a Waitrose, and a Co-Op.

The IOW itself is beautiful - particularly Cowes which is a short drive/walk across the chain ferry.

We stayed for 4 nights and really wish we were able to stay for longer. The site is very well kept and tranquil, and the staff were extremely helpful.

Can't wait to go back!

We discovered Waverley Park in Septemember 2009 and we're so pleased we did. This is now our 4th visit and we can't recommend this place highly enough. We stay in our motorohome on a fully serviced hard standing pitch at very reasonable rates.

In summary - this is a clean, well kept site with fantastic views down over the solent. The location is excellent (easy walking to shops or seafront strolls) . The owner Peter and Sue are not only friendly hosts they can't do enough to ensure that all needs are accommodated.

The site is well layed out with a sloping field for tents, the hardstanding area for motorhomes and caravans is nicely terraced - each pitch fully serviced (water/ waste & electric) with a gravelled hardstanding area and it's own large grass area. Every pitch has views across the solent towards the mainland - so on a wet miserable day, we were happy to stay put and watch the ships coming and going.

To one side of the site there are a number of static caravans, these are tastefully positioned and all look very well presented. We have met some of the holiday makers staying in the statics and we've only ever heard good reports - some people saying that they return every year.

The toilet/ shower block is modern, clean and well maintained. There's always plenty of hot water - some people may not like the push button shower - but coming from a motorhome we are used to conserving water .

The washing up facility is in a lovely room with windows looking out onto trees, if you're lucky you'll see a red squirrel while washing the dishes. If you want to see the red squirrels - this is the place to come, the owners have put up feeding stations and ropes to encourage them. We also noticed on this visit that there is a wild meadow area being created and it just seems to be a magnet for wildlife.

Finally, on a last note - if you own a caravan or motorhome - "DON'T come here!!! - We want to keep this place our secret and ensure that we will always get a pitch at one of our favourite campsites "The Waverley Park".

we stayed here for a week during the october school holidays. we booked 3 caravans one for a couple, one for 2 adults and 5 children and mine was for 1 adult and 2 children aged 3,4 , I walked in the caravan bedroom and there must have been 6 flys buzzing around and squashed ones here and there, other than this the caravans seemed fine . However we had been promised the bar would be open during the week then when we arrived they said just weekend , then as it got to weekend we asked what time it would be opened to which the reply from the manager 'do you want me to work 24/7 or what and believe me he wasnt smiling . Then my nephew was on the childrens park and there was another child aged 9 with a pen knife who threatened my nephew , we reported this as the other child was staying on the caravan park with his gradparents, again we were taken back by the response from the lady owner of 'well it does state all children have to be supervised on the park so that isnt our concern, you will see notices about " , the icing came when I reported the toilet leaking in my caravan to which the response was " for want of a better word but if your overweight it pulls the pipe away from the wall" im 10 stone , a bloke weighs more , so I was mortified .
The proprierters were rude obnoxious and not bothered about there clients or customer relations , i wouldnt want to give them another penny of my money

We stayed here for a few nights in oct 2010 as a cheap break away and we fell lucky with the weather. Isle of wight as a whole is wonderful and we will return next year but not to East Cowes. EC itself is pretty ugly and there is nothing around. The site itself is lovely and in good grounds. We took our dogs with us and when booking was told this wasn't a problem and nothing else. Upon arrival we was given a list of "rules" for the dogs and most of them was fine - such things as keep them on leads while on site, if they want to sit on the sofa then use a throw etc etc which we had no problem what so ever with however one of the rules was if you was going out then you was to take your dog with you and they was not allowed to be left unattended AT ALL (We aren't ones for leaving them locked up all day everyday but we do like to enjoy an evening meal out in a fancy restaurant and to visit some sites where dogs aren't able to go) so this cocked all our plans up good and proper. I can appreciate that they don't want their furniture etc chewing and dogs left barking at passers by and such things but for us, our dogs are happy to sleep for the couple hours we are out and we would have kept the curtains closed to avoid them barking at anyone stood outside the caravan - this was such an annoyance that we pretty much spent the week either walking the dogs all day everyday or in the van. We couldn't even go out for a meal in the evening so had to cook (NOT A BREAK FROM THE DAILY GRIND!!) wE SHOULD HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS BOTH AT ENQUIRY STAGE AND BOOKING STAGE NOT WHEN WE HAD NO OPTION WHEN WE ARRIVED.....WE WOULDN'T HAVE BOOKED IF WE HAD KNOWN AND STAYED ELSE WHERE.

The caravan we booked was an Albert - fantastic heating in it. Lovely modern van but it was no frills to say the least. No washing up liquid provided hence the sticky pots and pans - YUCK! no tea towels, bath towels or even loo roll. The toilet was filthy - "brown" stains in the bottoms of the pan - YUCK YUCK! It had the worlds smallest tv in the living rooms - about a 12inch one (bit annoying when you have to spend the evenings in to babysit your well behave dogs as you a banned from leaving them for an hour or so) Bedding was awful - was given two pillowcases for 4 pillows and two flat sheets - the actual duvets hadn't been washed for what im guessing weeks so I presume loads of other people have used it before us - think you are expected to sleep in the flat sheet with the duvet on top. The beds them self are so uncomfortable its untrue - you can feel every spring in the mattress - we ended up sleeping on the living room sofa as it was far more comfy (talk about a passion killer!) No toaster in kitchen which was disappointing. No wine glasses only very small tumblers, no scissors. They ask you to bag all rubbish as its collected by hand - no problem you might think well think again - you have to buy your own bin liners!! Shower was leaking, flush on the toilet kept getting stuck, lots of dust generally in the van.

All in all do not know how this site has been awarded a 4 star - will we return to Waverley Park? NO Will we return to IOW? YES!

This is going to be quite a mixed review, so quite difficult to write!

If this review was based only on the family running it, then they would get 5*. Very welcoming, interacting with all their site guests, and excellent hosts.

The location of the site is great. East Cowes isn't the prettiest of areas, but you get a great sea view, are a few minutes walk from the chain ferry (free for foot passengers) to Cowes, and on the Isle of Wight, you're never more than a 30 minute drive from anywhere really!!

My review is based on the apartment which we stayed in a few weeks ago. For the price we paid, we were expecting a little more.

The web site states:
"All our flats have colour televisions, are comfortably furnished and carpeted and are supplied with duvets, sheets, pillows, pillow cases and extra blankets. Electric Hoovers and cleaning equipment are provided."

My gripes are as follows:

1. We were given just two clean flat sheets, and 2 clean pillow cases, and were expected to make the bed ourselves. I don't mind doing this, but then why weren't we given a clean duvet cover?? The one already on the bed was somewhat grubby and certainly didn't smell overly fresh - I got the impression that guests are expected to sleep between their two clean flat sheets, which in reality is somewhat impossible, so that duvet had clearly been used by other people! yuck!

2. Towels are not provided, which is unusual in self catering accommodation.

3. No toilet roll! I have NEVER had to go out and buy toilet roll when staying in self catering accommodation!!

4. No washing up liquid and no tea towels. I'll presume that most other guests that have stayed here were expecting these to be provided too, as all the cutlery, plates, utensils, oven trays etc... were horribly sticky!

5. No oven gloves. Was interesting trying to get hot pizza out of oven!

6. The hoover supplied was relatively useless.

7. The main double bedroom is tiny! The bed is pushed up against the wall with a wardrobe squeezed in the other side. There are no bed side tables, which was actually quite annoying - no where to put water, book, phone etc... Personally I'd lose the wardrobe, and have 2 bedside tables instead. The ensuite bathroom has a lovely shower, but also has a severe mould problem due to lack of ventilation. Opening window/curtains wasn't appealing due to it looking straight out onto the workshop and thus feeling slightly overlooked. It needs an extractor fan!

I know this is predominantly a camp site and caravan park, but for the price paid, I was expecting a bit more from self catering accommodation, as if I wanted a cheaper self catering caravan, I would have booked one!

Oh, and pets are welcome, but you can't leave them in the accommodation when you go off site.

Though on slope the views make up for it. Managed to get a spot under a tree and enjoyed a 5-day stay with my family. Could keep an eye on kids over a glass of wine on the raised terrace over looking sea & sunset. Pool didn't get over-crowded though was closed for a day's deep cleaning. Plenty to do out and about for my 3 & 7 year old, though pre 9am breakfasts hard to come by on the island. Recommend The Lifeboat, East Cowes PO32 6UB - excellent setting, tasty fresh food overlooking boats, superb value. IOW great for dog owners - even allowed into Theme Parks & pubs!
