“The worst food ever”
Reviewed 14 February 2012

We have just returned from a 3week holiday on Angaga. We went there mainly for the snorkling and we were not disappointed. The House Reef was brilliant and easily reached from the beach. However the food was the worst we had had anywhere. The quantity was there but was spoilt by bad cooking. The lamb and beef was burnt on the outside, raw in the middle and tough. The duck was mainly tough. A lot of the food was cold, the golden chicken was brown! The pasta was dry with a baked on sauce. A lot of the meat was precooked. I ended up eating fish and for my last two days I spent on the loo with a tummy bug. The salads were unimaginative and repeatative...what more can I say! The whole resort was frayed around the edges. The service in the bar was slow at times. A lot of the staff seemed to lack motivation and had a general air of malaise. On one of the snorkling trips the accompanying leader was in a personal phone call for most of the time. There was also no leader to go into the water with you..very bad. If you want a 2 star service go to this island. However the island itself is a little bit of Paradise spoilt by bad management.

Room Tip: Choose villas 101 to 117

We returned on 1 Feb after two great weeks on Angaga with a few little "niggles". This is a 3*plus hotel so we got what we expected. Our beach room was better than expected. The furniture was rustic but the room was spotlessly clean. If you like a hard bed and hard pillows you will be in you element (we don't). The beach is exceptionall. This is our fourth island in the Maldives and this is the best beach, and there is plenty of it. At times you felt you were the only people on the Island. The lagoon is great for swimming in and if you do not want to go on the house reef for snorkeling you will see plenty of sea life in the lagoon, especially near the jetty. The house reef is not the best we have been on, there is plenty to see but the currents make it very hard work so you need to be a strong swimmer. The food is good but unimaginative for the most part. Our waiter Hussain was very good. There is plenty of choice but it is mainly the same every day. The bars are good and the selection of drinks (especially for all inclusive) is excellent. However the standard of service often left something to be desired. There are the usual 'trips' to go on, we went fishing a couple of times and had some great fun. They cook your catch on the beach afterwards. We met some lovely poeple on the island, both staff and guests. All in all a great little island that we would reccommed. Lets hope they don't refurbish this island and spoil its tranquility that some islands have done.

Room Tip: West side rooms no breeze but plenty of beach.

We stayed only one week and that is the worst part of our holiday: it was too short.
I would definitely visit this island once again, but then for 2 weeks.
Everything is exactly as on the pictures – the water is crystal clear, the beach is so white, that it hurts your eyes! The vegetation is wonderful, the flying dogs in the tree are cute, the food is good and the all-inclusive drinks are OK.
We had a water bungalow, the second from the sun-down bar. The bungalow itself and the furniture in it have seen their better days, but we didn’t expect much of it, so we were not disappointed.
We did have very high expectations of the house reef and we were not disappointed! We went to a boat diving and didn’t see anything special, and we went diving on our own house reef and saw it all – rays, turtle, sharks, morays, mobula, trigger fish, too much to mention, really! I must say, we are the newbie to the diving, so if you are an advanced diver, there are probably more exciting places to go, but for us it was just perfect!
Snorkeling in front of the water bungalow was fantastic too, we saw sharks, sting ray, squids and a whole load of other wonderful beasts!!
There is so much tranquility on the island! You only see people when you go to the restaurant! Sometimes we went around the island, swimming and making pictures, without seeing one single person! And it’s a very small island, really.
Book this wonderful island and enjoy, as we did!

it took us 35 hrs to travel from Beijing to Angaga via Male. but trust me, flying coach on EK was the best part of the entire honeymoon.

there were only three ppl on the seajet to Angaga, an European Solo woman and us.

Upon arrival, every guests signed the form. then european woman was handled the room key and followed the staff to her room.
I spoke to the staff asking for one of the rooms in 110-120 as i heard they are better. He didn't speak a word and walked away. Minutes later, another staff came by and gave us a key and leading us to our room. I checked the number on our key, 171.
I was confused, i never knew they have this room in the resort. The rooms are numbered from 100-170. and this room 171 was not showed on the resort map neither.
So i ask that staff to show it on the map where room 171 is. He pointed on the map. IT WAS AT THE STAFF AREA!!!! He also showed us the way to the beach from the staff area on the map.
I told him, that was not the room i booked via agent. I booked the beach bungalow.
Then he walked away.

HERE COMES THE CLIMAX
Later came a supervisor, the front manager or something i couldnot remember. told us that because it was honeymoon. so they provided us with a room in the garden with better privacy.
I thanked him and declined, saying we would just want to stick to what we booked, the beach bungalow.
Then the front manager said, well, how abt upgrade us from half board to full board.
I sensed something is going wrong and declined again. insisting on we just want the beach bungalow we booked.
Then the front manager said, okay okay they would also add in two activities on the house, fishing and fish viewing or something. We declined again, we were extremely exausted after our 35 hrs trip to Angaga, we just need the room we booked asap.

He then finally told us because of some guests' flight delayed, there are no beach bungalow left anymore. That so called "garden room" in staff living area were what left only.
My cellphone is our of battery, so i told him to call our travel agent as we refused to take what they offered. He walked away for more than ONE HOUR, between then everytime i looked for him he always told us he was on it. Finally, he told us the agent asked us to stayed at the "garden room" because there was nothing else left!!! When i told him i need to talk to the agent, he said he has hung up already.

We were soooooooo exausted by then, so the next time he came by. I asked him what is the difference between the "garden room" and the beach bungalow we booked. He told us they were identical except for one is in the garden one is on beach. We finally took the offer just because we really need to rest after the long trip from Beijing.

We stepped into the room, found it was awful but we really need to sleep at that time.
When we woke up it was by the evening already, we went for dinner and came back to unpack. That was the very first time for us to have a detailed look at this room.

I know that Angaga is not luxurious island or resort. but still it should not be as ghetto as 13-14 square meters for a room!

The next morning, we walked around the resort wanted to take a look at the beach bungalow we were supposed to live in. What surprised us is that all guests staying at this beach bungalow area were caucasions except for one japanese couple. we spoke to that japanese couple, asked if we could have a look at their room. They agreed.

IDENTICAL MY A**! then i realized that i was fooled by that front manager.
we walked back to our room, found a sign next to our building " staff only". There were two floors with 10 rooms in total in this building in the "staff only" area. the rooms on the first floor were all occupied by asian guests. we didnot checked the 2nd floor.

We confronted to the manager, they moved us back to the beach bungalow we booked...the other day. During the following days, We then asked the staff what that building is for, acted just like we were out of curiosity. He told us it was their staff dorm.

So things are clear, the so called "garden room which is identical to the beach bungalow" is just their staff rooms and it only accomadated guests from Asia when oversold.

around 10 days later after we went back to beijing. We got the final decision from the travel agent regarding to our complains. They offered us nothing and suggested us to go legal.

Do yourself a favor. If you are not Asian and have no problem living in a racist resort, there should be really few problems staying at Angaga resort. Even if it is oversold, us Asian guests will be send to use the staff room instead. If the seajets from Male to Angaga are overloaded, it will be us Asians especially Chinese to be the very first one to be kicked off and wait for the next flight.

Room Tip: Be Caucasians, really.

When we first arrived in Angaga, looking from the sea plane we couldn't believe how small the island was but as they say good things come in small packages and thats mostly the case with Angaga. Our first impression was ok but after 2 weeks the island had worked its my magic on us and we were completely won over.
This was our fourth time to the Maldives and this is the most natural island we have been to, as in there is no sea wall protecting the island which probably explains why this is the best coral reef we have seen. However, because the coral reef is so vast the sea life is not as concentrated as on smaller reefs.
It takes about 15 mins to walk around the island and thats going at a leisurely pace, the sand is powdery white and we didn't wear shoes for the whole two weeks we were there. We stayed in a beach bungalow and were allocatoed 2 sunbeds which could be moved around if you need to find some shade. The Bungalow was fairly spacious and was cleaned everyday.
There are two bars, we mainly went to the bar by the restaurant, the bar staff were amazing, very attentive and friendly, they always knew when we were ready for another drink and sometimes even what we wanted. The only entertainment is a band on a Saturday night, which were very good, During our time there, it was the final of the annual football tournament, What a brilliant night we had. The England team could learn a thing or two from these lads!
The downside to the holiday was the food, it was nearly the same every night with a few variations, that is something they need to work on. Our waiter was wonderful though and looked after us throughout the holiday and even decorated the table on my partners birthday and gave him a chocolate cake at the end of the meal.
I agree with the other reviews the accomodation is abit tired but the charm of the island distracts you from this. If you are looking for peace and tranquility and a no frills resort then this is the Island for you.

Room Tip: Due to high tide and erosion Rooms No. 120 -130 are not the best as you don't have direct access...
