“Natural nirvana.”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

I'm a hiker, wife's a committed birder. Both of us were enchanted!
Wonderful and well-maintained trails through a pristine forest with amazing bird life and a surprise: monkeys not much smaller than chimpanzees. Absolutely amazing encounters w/our fellow primates who were wary, though not exactly shy.
The chalets were wonderful and we very much enjoyed the fires every night (w/provided wood) in the bedroom fireplace. The food? Very, very good home-style Brazilian cooking (buffet) w/ridiculous dessert choices (one night had 8 (yes, eight) chocolate selections--- and they were all good!
After a day of hiking, what better than to relax w/a swim in the heated indoor pool (outdoor's water prohibitively was cool) and then a sauna (2 kinds available, wet and dry).
The staff were VERY helpful.
All-in-all, a place well befitting Brazil's first national park.

We spent 3 nights in October on a birding tour. We were not disappointed. Outstanding bird life in the National Park. Although the staff spoke very little english they were attentive and very helpful. We had the Ype suite, right off the dining room with four rooms with wonderful views of the valley and mountains and a working fireplace. The others in our group were in A frame chalets below the dining room with fireplaces as well and large balconies. The rooms were clean. Food was very good with large selections at all meals especially lots of desserts. Beer was inexpensive, very good and always cold.
The hotel is at the top of a very steep hill so any walks you take are downhill until you want to return which can be very strenuous. Once you get down the steep part there is a road to the right that goes to a river and a waterfall that is quite flat.
If you are a birder the hotel grounds are outstanding with at least 70 species seen within 100 yards. The hummingbird feeders are very active and the birds are not at all skittish.
The hotel is up high so bring extra layers since it can be cool and misty during the day and very cool at night without heaters except the fireplace.
We would go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Get a chalet below the dining room.

Individual chalets overlook the valley and park with stunning views. Excellent food and landscaping for a decent price.

Room Tip: Book through your birding guide and enjoy the paradise around you.

We stayed here for three night in October 2011. The hotel is situated high up in the National Park. Most of the accomodation is in A-frame chalets on a steep hill. There is a large outdoor swimming pool, an indoor heated pool and two saunas (dry and wet) along with a bar and two games rooms. Three meals a day were included in the price. The dining room has spectacular views across the National Park and hummingbird feeders and plates of fruit on the balcony attracted the local birds. The staff were very friendly and we were upgraded twice for no extra cost and also some extra vegetarian choices were provided at dinner when we asked. The hotel provides a guide who does free walks at 10.00 a.m every morning. He took us to a local waterfall and bathing hole where we swam for a couple of hours. The food was excellent with a buffet system for all meals, you just help yourself to as much as you want. Drinks are not included. Overall this was a very relaxing place to stay with just the sound of the local wildlife disturbing the silence - a real 'get-away-from-it-all' type of place. It seemed popular with bird-watchers and we even saw monkeys swinging in the trees.
