“Agriturismo in the heart of Tuscany”
Reviewed 2 April 2014 via mobile

I stayed with a friend at Poggerino for three nights in early April 2014 and, before leaving, we were already planning our next visit to the place. In the heart of the Chianti region, between Firenze and Siena, this Agriturismo (B&B) offers the perfect location to explore Tuscany or just to relax. Its XII century infrastructure, well trained personnel along impeccable conditions make Poggerino an excellent option for any world traveller, and a must for those of us that appreciate excellent quality delivered in an understated manner. We felt like guests in a high quality operating vineyard, drinking their award winning Chianti Classico and enjoying the famous cypress topped rolling Tuscan hills. And last but not least, breakfasts are fantastic. Benedetta, the owner/manager of the place attends to every detail and makes sure the food comply with her high quality standards, using mostly local organically produced ingredients.

What a wonderful place to stay for our first trip to Italy. Everything was wonderful from the staff, to the rooms, to the amazing food. It was all that we dreamed Tuscany would be like and more. We want to go back already!

My wife and I stayed here for the second year in a row. Just beautiful. The staff are so so nice and friendly. The rooms are lovely, and the setting- stunning.
We would highly recommended this for anyone wanting to visit Tuscany. Florence and Siena only 30-40mins away, and Radda is beautiful.

Room Tip: The fresh water pool is lovely on a hot day. Just relax and watch the view from the garden with a g...

Accommodation was in a beautiful 800 year old renovated church next to a winery and lovely gardens. Reasonably priced. Good wines from the winery for sale in B&B. Shared fridge if you buy any lovely food from nearby markets. Best breakfast we had in 2 years of travelling Europe- homemade sweet & savoury tarts + hot breakfast made to order.
You need a car to stay here - it's in the middle of nowhere nestled amongst beautiful rolling hills. Our car broke down as we were leaving and John was immensely helpful speaking to the rental car company in Italian and arranging for us to have the oil replaced at a service station down the road rather than driving 45mins to theirs. Watch out for leaving food unattended anywhere near Lucky the dog- he ate our leftover lemon tart from the open car! (But he seemed friendly)

My wife and I and two other couples spent three days and four nights at Fattoria Poggerino and enjoyed it immensely. We stayed in rooms in the old church building, which were very comfortable and nicely furnished. Views of the vineyards in the area visible from the rooms were breathtaking, especially at sunrise.

Breakfasts made by Benedetta every morning, and the dinner she made for her guests one evening, were the best meals we had during our 2 week trip to Italy. All fresh, home grown and vegetarian! Peiro was traveling the week we visited but John, the manager, was extremely helpful, hospitable and informative. Unlike other reviewers, we were able to connect to the WiFi everywhere on the premises.

Radda is an interesting town to visit for its restaurants and shopping. It is a little too far to walk there from Fattoria Poggerino, unless you are a big walker. Plenty of public parking lots are available in town.

We decided to take a bus into Florence for a day of sightseeing during our stay. Catching the bus in Greve was easy. I would recommend you buy your ticket from the bus driver when you board rather than trying to find someplace in Greve to buy tickets in advance. The bus stop is on the main road on the north end of town.

We brought our bicycles and rode in the area. Radda is a major center for many great bicycling routes in the area.

We didn't have time to use the pool but I was surprised and impressed with how beautiful it was and well-cared for. it is set on the hill above the B&B in a very peaceful and scenic spot.

Others reviewers have mentioned how great the Fattoria Poggeino wine is and eveyone in our group would agree. We also agreed with other reviewers that it is a great base for exploring the Tuscany region. You won't be disappointed if you decide to stay there.

We can't say enough about how much we liked this place. A lovely clean room overlooking vineyards, comfortable beds, a large armoire for clothes - simple living perfect for
the serene atmosphere. Breakfast was fantastic every single morning with an array of freshly made choices which would make anyone happy. Great mugs of delicious cappuccino.
We were lucky to have one of Benedetta's dinners - fantastic risotto , eggplant, panna cotta with chocolate (yum). Laundry was also available , great for longer trips!
Kudos to Benedetta, John and Tullio for their helpfulness in every way.
Poggerino's Riserva Chianti Classico is also excellent.
We also loved their attention to environmental and sustainable practices, and we would certainly go here again in a heartbeat!

Cannot complain much about this place. John was excellent with coordination before the trip and made an extra effort to call us in the States to notify us that the B&B had experienced a power outage, and might not have power. He stayed in contact on our way to Europe and we ended up having a very nice stay at Fattoria Poggerino. I personally only saw Benedetta very briefly during the morning breakfast which was excellent, but be aware that both John and Benedatta did not stay on site during the evening/night hours. We did have one evening meal, which unfortunately was vegetarian which would not have been what I ordered, but overall was good. The rooms were nice, but the shower was a bit smaller than I have experienced in a few other B&Bs in Tuscany. The setting is beautiful. Overall thumbs up for this historic B&B.

Room Tip: Be aware that some of the rooms cannot be reached at night from other rooms due to locked doors. No...
