We ate at this restaurant on our second night in Radda and it made up for the indifferent meal and service we'd had at our hotel the night before. The staff in Al Chiasso dei Portici were very professional and efficient and the food was excellent, as was the wine - chosen with advice from the wine waiter. The space is beautiful, the restaurant was busy and there was a good vibe to the place. Go if you're staying in Radda.

I was visiting a winery (Vescine) just outside of Radda and asked if they had a recommendation for dinner in town. They sent me to Al Chiasso dei Portici, which proved to be a culinary delight. I arrived a few minutes early before they open and was allowed to sit at the bar, where I tried a Tuscan beer called La Manchina. At 7.4% alcohol content, it had a wonderful rich taste. Their menu is based on what they obtain fresh each day from local growers and suppliers and is all prepared in-house daily. The meal was only topped by the knowledge of the staff. Tell them what you like and they will tell you what the Chef can prepare if it's not on the menu. My dinner for the evening consisted of a Porchini Mushroom Ravioli with a saffron sauce and served with a bread basket that is wonderful, followed by a second course of Pork Filet with Roasted Potato's. I tried a local Chianti Classico with the Pork that was recommended and the tastes were excellent. So, this Restaurant provides you fresh food, great service, excellent beverages at a reasonable price... What could be better!!!

.... and that's saying something, because we had a number of excellent meals while there. I'm a huge fan of bruschetta, and the offering here was spectacular. Then there is the pasta, which was outstanding. We were staying outside nearby Poggibonsi, and it was all we could do to not go back there several other times while in Tuscany. It's too bad they are moving, because the outside terrace was delightful, but I'm glad to hear they have secured a new location - we WILL be back!

First of all, Radda is a stunning little gem of a town, and Al Chiasso is its culinary personification. Soothing stucco walls, gracious staff, and delicious food, elegant in its simplicity, make for a memorable evening. Sadly, they are being forced to move soon, due to a hike in rent after 18 years, (shame on the building's owner), but they told us that they are moving their operation to a nearby winery, and we'll be sure to follow them there.

Had a delicious lunch of local delicacies with a great Chianti wine. A lovely courtyard with grapevines and flowers and a beautiful view of the valley below; right in the center of Radda in Chianti.
