If you're someone who plans to travel around Tuscany and see small towns, Radda is a great base. The Relais' grounds are picturesque. Spruce trees can be seen from every angle. Also, olive trees, fava beans and fruit grow right next to the parking lot. There's the main building - which has quite a bit more Italian charm, and the building across the street. This is where we stayed, but it's literally across the street and a two second walk from the check-in desk. The rooms were clean, spacious and simple. The art is the hallway was a nice touch. Nothing fancy - but more historial blue prints, drawings of battle and prints of Tuscan door knobs. The view from the room was absolutely incredible. When I opened the window I kept asking myself - "Where am I"? It was picture perfect, with rolling hills, vineyards and landscaped greenery. We didn't spend much time in the main building, but inside there is a wine shop and a couple of cozy sitting rooms with outdoor balconies. The breakfast patio was my favorite thing here. It's pretty expansive and again, the views are what made it. The food was average - nothing to write home about, but the service was very good. Beyond the breakfast area you can see the pool and several vineyards. The hotel itself is steps away from the town of Radda. It's old, rustic and filled with tiny shops, one of which offers free wine and olive oil tastings. The hotel is within walking distance to several great restaurants, including a pizzeria with a true local feel. I'd go back to this hotel but the explorer in me would also be interested in trying another place in the Chianti region.

We just returned from our honeymoon. A 2 week adventure around Europe. We spent 3 days in Tuscany and stayed at the Fattoria Vignale.
Let me start out with the positives. This place is in an unbelievable setting. Gorgeous outlook over the valley which is filled with vineyards and orchards. It is a quiet town, so those who want more action better look elsewhere, but that suited us just fine. The staff was wonderful. There is a complimentary bottle of wine waiting in all rooms and shortly after our arrival, they brought up a bottle of champagne for it being our honeymoon. A very nice touch.

The negatives: Our room, though large and well done, reeked of cigarette smoke. There were signs around the room asking patrons to not smoke, but this was not adhered to by the guests prior to us. It stunk bad. Another negative: though previously reviewed positive, we though the restaurant was not that good. My wife had gnocchi and I had a homemade pasta. It was by far the most expensive meal we ate in Italy and by far our worst. Of note, there is a small restaurant literally across the street from the hotel. A family run kind of place. It was unreal!!! The bruschetta was the best we've ever had in our lives and the ribolleta soup, which is a Tuscan bean soup over bread, was probably the best thing we ate ever. The main dishes were also fantastic.

All in all, considering the price of the hotel I probably would not stay here again and look for another option, but perhaps we just had a bad few days there considering all the other great things to say on this site.

This hotel is an absolute gem. We stayed for 3 nights in July and didn't want to leave. It has glorious views, elegant and spacious rooms, plenty of on-site parking and friendly staff. Ask for room 66 in the annex - it has one of the few balconies. Breakfast is good - a cooked breakfast is extra, but we never needed it. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but did take advantage of the free taxi to a restaurant 4km away owned by the same family, where both the food and location were excellent. The hotel's wine shop is also good and there's a discount of 20% on certain wines for hotel guests. The hotel is a very short walk to the town centre, which has some small shops and restaurants (and stunning views). Radda in Chianti was a perfect location for exploring the region and the hotel was perfect too, we'll definitely go back.

Vignale has obviously seen better times but it is still in a great position to provide you with an excellent touring base for visiting Chianti. Here are the positives and negatives of our 2 night stay:-
Positives. 1) Superb position on the hillside overlooking the vineyards of this little hill village. 2) Swimming pool and surrounding deck on the edge of the hillside. 3) Beautiful gardens and terraces. 4) Property has real character 5) Ristorante Le Vigne (just outside the village) is as good as other reviewers have said.
Negatives. 1) Staff seem generally lacking in motivation. There doesn't seem to be a strong management structure here. I wouldn't say they weren't attentive but there wasn't any warmth to the welcome. 2) The breakfast was pretty awful...tinned orange juice and stewed coffee to mention just a couple of the problems. 3) The dining room is in a beautiful setting but was less than half full when we were there. We gave it a miss because the breakfast was so poor .
Despite these problems, we still enjoyed our stay and made full use of this wonderful setting. If you pay a little extra, you can make sure that your room looks out onto the garden / valley side of the property rather than the road. That way you'll be sure of a nice view and little or no road noise.

The hotel consists of two buildings divided by a fairly busy road. We were given a room in the smaller of the two buildings (the Annex). The room itself was exceptionally quiet and had a nice view of the Tuscan countryside through a relatively small window. 'Antique' furniture had its downside. The lamps, especially bedside lamps, were weak. The mattress was too firm, to the point of being uncomfortable. The pillows were small and flat. If you want to watch the TV, bring the binoculars: this hotel room had the smallest-size TV I've seen anywhere. The bathroom was well appointed and had an electrically operated skylight that you could open - a nice feature but the draft caused the bathroom door to slam a few times. The air conditioner is of a crude built-in type; it is efficient but noisy.

Breakfast was served on a nice terrace overlooking the vineyards and an olive tree grove. Quality and variety were just-OK. On the first day (we stayed there for three days) we were served a most awful coffee - brown-colored water, really; very unusual for Italy. My wife then came up with a solution: we ordered double espressos and some hot water, and when we diluted the espressos, which were up to standard, the resulting Caffe Americano was quite good.

The hotel has a wonderful lounge which is actually a series of smaller rooms with sofas and chairs, and also a balcony where you can sit and enjoy the view in the evening. The bar serves complimentary light snacks and a good selection of quality wines and spirits. However, be mindful of mosquitoes in summer.

Breakfast and parking were included in the price (we paid 210 Euros/Night). We had no complaints about the service overall.

The countryside is of course beautiful but driving on winding roads can get tiring after a while (and it's probably not a good idea to combine too much driving with too much wine tasting). Roads are of good quality, though, and road signs are plentiful, so it is almost impossible to get lost.

We have not tried this hotel's restaurant but have had a dinner in a similar restaurant (Portici) in Radda, and it was a very pleasant experience, and less expensive, too.

When we started to plan our two week trip to Italy to celebrate my 50th birthday we were not sure where to stay in Tuscany. We saw the trip advisor reviews and the lovely pictures and decided this town and this hotel would be a wonderful base for our Tuscany adventures.

Our expectations were surpased. Our trip began with luggage misplaced for three days but we assumed this would happen and packed accordingly. The hotel staff kindly contacted the airline on our behalf and we did eventually receive our luggage.

The staff - in the office, in the bar and at breakfast, was wonderfully helpful and friendly. On the evening of my birthday I returned from Montalcino to find a bottle of wine and roses from the garden in the room.

Room was lovely and the shower not only had great pressure but a lovely view! The view from our room was of the vineyard and olive trees. We did not use the pool but it was also a plus. Of all the hotels we saw during our six days in Tuscany not once did we wish we had stayed elsewhere.

We ate dinner in Radda in Chianti all six nights - the roads of Tuscany are not the place to experiment with "drinking and driving". We ate 4 of the nights at the pizzeria recomended on this site - Pizzeria de Michel. Excellent!!!

You can not go wrong booking a stay here. We visited San Gimingano, Montalcino, Florence, Siena and Volterra conveniently and scenically (is this a real word?).
