Guido and Martina have created a very special paradise at La Locanda. Getting there is not easy (take a detailed map and arrive early in the afternoon, not after dark). But once there, it is a heavenly spot, with lovely views of Volpaia and the surrounding rolling Tuscan hills. To dine out, walk to the one restaurant in Volpaia, or drive a short distance to Lamole or Radda. The restaurant food in the surrounding locality is peasanty but good value. La Locanda has been splendidly renovated with a lovely pool, cleverly designed shaded areas, and discrete but attentive service from Guido and Martina. It was nice not to have to drive out every night and enjoy Martina's cooking. I agree with the comments that it is quite a trek to the major sights - and in high summer when La Locanda is so peaceful it seemed slightly pointless putting ourselves through the traffic and crowds in the larger tourist areas. So perhaps La Locanda is best suited to a 3 day stop off on route south, or a longer romantic sybaritic stay when all you want to do is take life easy - I have found few better places to do that. Will definitely return.

Room Tip: Probably worth paying for the first floor rooms for the view but we were perfectly happy on the grou...

Well much has already been said about this place, this is just to confirm the kindness and helpfullness of the hosts (thanks again for our excellent stay), the quality of the rooms and bathrooms, the fantastic view on the Chianti hills, the quality of the food (dinner is served three times a week if I remember correctly), excellent breakfast and the quietness of the place. Wonderful pool overlooking the hills, enough shades when needed in the summer. A place to stay at least four/five days to really enjoy the neighbourhood (volpaia is really nice). Guido has also an excellent wine list. I have some difficulties finding flaws (well the place is not cheap, but it's Tuscany and it's really worth it).
Beware though of the path to access the hotel and ask for directions in advance. Having a 4 weel-drive is helpfull given the steepness of the path, you can survive with rentals but your engine will suffer, certainly uphill. Take also into account that it takes you around an hour to reach Sienna or Florence (this is characteristic to the whole region, small tortuous roads). We will certainly go back there, if in the region.

Room Tip: The hotel only has 7 rooms. The suite is very nice, having a room with a terrasse is also really enj...

A beautful country Inn, Guido and Martina are the perfect hosts who do everything to make you feel at home and to enhance your visit around this gorgeous area with their great advice. Breakfast is delicious , the pool is refreshing, the grounds are lovely. Our room with a balcony had a magnificent view of the charming town of Volpaia. The room was lovely and comfortable.
Snacks with a glass of wine or proseco at 7:00 was lots of fun. Did I mention the chocolates in the room....

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon and it was absolutely perfect. Guido and Martina have created a gorgeous oasis of lavender-filled calm, with their beautifully converted B&B overlooking the stunning medieval village of Volpaia (amazing Chianti Classico and olive oil from Volpaia!) and rolling green hills. Everything from the pool and the daily aperitif to the sunloungers and the bedrooms are exquisite – and we had a really magical, relaxing time here. Volpaia has a lovely restaurant (La Bottega) which has a great, convivial atmosphere and tasty food and vino – but Guido will also cook delicious suppers at La Locanda, too. We'll be going back, certainly – it's an amazing spot.

La Locanda is magical. It is beautiful. It is cozy and sits in a forest with a perfect view of the little hill-town, Volpaia. The breakfast was wonderful with many tasty options. Our room was fantastic! But the best thing about it were the hosts. Guido and Martina are so wonderful. We were late but they waited to welcome us with open arms. Guido upgraded us to an even better room because of a last minute vacancy, something he didn't have to do. He made reservations for us at the local Tuscan restaurant, which was delicious. He gave us tips on places to visit and when we left for Florence, gave us great advice on place to eat and things to see there as well. Best of all was how he made us feel at home. We hope to come back someday. Our stay was much too short!

We just returned from our 2-week trip to Tuscany, which included three nights at the charming La Locanda in the Chianti countryside. The lovely room had a balcony overlooking the Tuscan vineyards and the village of Volpaia. We were lucky to have great weather so we enjoyed sitting on the balcony just enjoying the scenery. The room is furnished in simple Tuscan style but it was authentic, nothing fussy. The bathroom was very clean and modern. The thick, plush towels and Bvulgari amenities were wonderful. The charm of La Locanda is due in large part to the owners Guido and Martina, who made every effort to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Each evening we were invited to partake in an aperatif and appetizer before dinner. Guido was very helpful in advising us which restaurants to visit. (Martina cooks three days a week so we had dinner with them the first night.) It was simply a relaxing and lovely stay!

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the balcony

My husband and I just returned from a 12-day throughout Tuscany and La Locanda was out first stop for 3 days. It was spectacular and clearly a hot-spot considering I couldnt get a balcony room with a 3 month in advance booking. The B&B is spacious, clean, beautifully decorated and the dinner on Friday night was spectacular. Guido is beyond accommodating as is his wife Martine. The gave us phenominal restaurant recs and a wine tasting. The view is beyong spectacular, I highly recommend them and we will go back and book months in advance for a balcony room. The balcony rooms are breathtaking.
