This Medieval town of villas & vacation apartments for rent (attractively restored), is a gem to be enjoyed. Plan to stay there for 4-6 days and visit surrounding Tuscan towns of Rada, Siena, Luca, Brolio, Castallina, Montepulciano and San Gimignano everyday. Get to know Mama Gena and her 2 daughters who manage the charming restaurants Bar Ucci and La Botega. Take a tour of the winery and taste their wines. Go back in time, smell the roses, relax and touch the history of Tuscany. Make sure to capture the amazing landscapes of olive trees, vineyards and villas with your camera so you can experience them again and again.

When we entered the town we were looking for Mama Genna.
She was on her balcony as we approached. We had heard that she sometimes invites folks to lunch in her home and is amazing cook.
She had been up since 4 making pasta and it was nap time. She introduced us to her daughter Carla downstairs who runs a wonderful restaurant. We tried several local dishes and had a great time. Recommend to anyone.

My friends and I spent nine days recently visiting the Chianti area staying in a Villa just outside Volpaia. We walked around this nice little town and went into the church. Beautiful place to visit. Try the two best restaurants in the area: Bar Ucci and La Botega which are across the street from each other (see other reviews of these restaurants). The wine store has a great selection of wines, too.

We love Volpaia, 2 or 3 little cafés / restaurant in the heat of the vineyards.
At harvest time, it seems that the whole village partakes in wine making.
It's interesting that the villagers go about their winemaking and everyday life if the tourist walking about seemingly unaffected,

Please don't tell anyone about Volpaia and the surrounding area...it's a secret!
