After an extensive search for places during our first ever holiday in Tuscanny, we "discovered" The Tegline website. Our initial apprehension of making a blind booking vanished once we connected with Simonetta who made us feel completely at ease with information on Radda, Cianti and Tuscanny.
We travelled a long distance from India and Dubai to get to Tuscanny. Despite arriving late at night in Radda, we received a very warm welcome from Giovanni who helped us settle into what was going to be our home for the next seven days! The rustic exterior blended so well with a most comfortable apartment where practically all our needs for such a holiday were taken care of. The next morning we were able to see Tegline and surrounding fin its full glory, and what a sight it was to behold! The lush green forests, the vineyard, the olive trees, the lake, barking deer, wild boar, Vanilla the horse, the quaint cottages which house four very well designed apartments. All these were ingredients for an absolutely relaxing holiday!
Simonetta, Giovanni and their children are among the most hospitable families we have ever met! starting with the delicious and sumptuous breakfasts to the wines from the vineyard, the home made cheeses, jams, olives, the cold cuts, home brewed coffee all combined beautifully to set the base to what turned out to be one of the most memorable holidays we have ever had! Giovanni's wine and olive oil tasting session was most informative and we thoroughly enjoyed being at their home amidst the children and their pets.
Tegline is conveniently located within easy driving distance from most major Tuscan tourist attractions. We couldn't have found a more idyllic location for our holiday. Our special thanks to Simonetta, Giovanni, and their talented children for making this a truly memorable week in Tuscany.
Girish and Uma Gupte
Even before we arrived in Italy, we already knew that our stay at the Podere Tegline was going to be something special, but we had no idea how perfectly matched the farm house was with our expectations of a rustic Tuscan hideaway.
The original structure on the property was a tower that was part of the network of defenses of Florence in the 1500s and the well/cistern that it's built on top of dates back to Roman times! The farmhouse itself has gone through a number of alterations - the tower is long gone - but what is left is four very well separated apartments that offer privacy between the apartments and in their adjoining outdoor spaces. Another apartment was occupied at the same time, but we never saw or heard our neighbors except together with our hosts - they were multo simpatico when we did meet them.
Before continuing, I have to say that you will never meet any nicer, helpful or generous hosts than Simonetta and Giovanni :) When via email we told Simonetta the nature of our stay in Chianti, she arranged for us to attend a function that was lovely and the contacts that we made there made our visit even more successful than we could ever have imagined! They offer a Tuscan dinner in their home just down the road together their children, and this is a treat not to be missed: four courses of appetizers, three types of pastas/sauces combinations, stewed wild boar with two hot vegatable mixes, a delicious light apple cake for desert, constantly flowing wine that they produce on the property, Giovanni's Vin Santo ("the Soul of the Grape") and Grapa di Chianti ("the Soul of the Soul of the Grape"). This three hour culinary delight is made even more enjoyable by their delightful company and their sharing of the local history, life on the farm and their children.
The apartment itself was the biggest of the four and consists of two double (queen-sized beds) bedrooms that are well sound-proofed from each other, private bathrooms attached to each, a large living room with central dining table and a kitchen that allows for all manner of cooking of your own. This is a rustic farmhouse so if you know what you are booking, you will find this setup very charming and appropriate, if you are looking for luxury, this is not the booking for you. You find yourself the only dwelling in the midst of literally hundreds of acres of forest, fields and vines, with a herd of goats, their "professional" guard dogs, two horses and at least one wild boar for company. If that description sounds like your idea of a relaxing Tuscan vacation, then you won't be disappointed. We breakfasted on the terrace over-looking a small pond, surrounded by nature - for us, we couldn't ask for anything more. We made a vow to come back...
