The rooms are outdated, but once you look past that, the place is really enjoyable. The pool area is huge and our daughter loves playing. We have visited the last two times in the winter so the restaurants were closed and we couldn't enjoy the summer activities but we still had a great time. We really liked the in-room fireplaces - such a great touch. We look forward to going back in the summer.

We stayed here for a 3 day work conference in October of 2012.

I stayed in one of the hotel rooms in the large building. It was a nice hotel room with 2 queen beds, a nice sized table and chairs, a nice big newer TV, bathroom, and a counter area with a mini fridge and coffee maker. Oh and there was a wood burning fireplace inside and a balcony which overlooked the lake with a small table and chairs.

The rooms were nice and clean but with dated decor, but over all it was a nice place to stay.

The food served by the resort for the conference events was ok. Some of the meals were better than others but nothing really wowed. The food that was served in the bar area attached to the lobby was below average bar food. The atmosphere was majorly lacking especially for the potential given with the location and gorgeous lake views.

I was able to check out some of my colleagues digs which was a cabin along the lake closer to the entrance. The cabin was really cozy and homey feeling with a full kitchen and multiple bedrooms. There was a big flight of stairs out the patio door that went down to the lake. We had a bonfire one of the nights right on the lake which was very fun.

I was very wowed by the indoor pool area which was located in the heart of the big main building. They had a huge pool with a hot tub and game tables (pool, ping pong, etc...). They also had many, many tables and chairs around the pool area. It was huge! From the pool area they had many hotel rooms with walk out doors and one side was lined with big windows that looked out onto the patio/lake.

One of the owners of the resort (I think his name was Dutch) addressed our group and gave us a little history of the place. He was really sweet and you could tell he put his heart and soul into running the resort. The rest of the staff seemed very friendly and accommodating as well.

Over all I thought this was a great place to stay especially for a work conference. You really need to know what to expect though. This is not a luxurious resort/spa with all of the buttons and whistles. It's very dated (I bet it was the nicest place in 1970) but it gets the job done. I'm sure it would have been more fun to visit in the summer when I could have enjoyed the outdoor and golfing area.

My wife and son recently had a 3 day stay at Cragun's and we were all extremely happy with our stay. The staff were all EXTREMELY FRIENDLY!!! Every single one, from the front desk to the maintenance crew to the activities people - every single one greeted us all with a smile and did everything they could to make sure we were happy.

The activities provided by Cragun's are also a huge plus for those traveling with children. We saw a magic show that my 3 year old loved, and the ride along the beach by the horse carriage was also a plus.

We will definitely be going to Cragun's again, I only hope I can get my brother's and their families to join us as well. Thank you to everyone at Cragun's for making our little trip a lot of fun!!!

Stayed in King room with fireplace facing lake. Room very dated with musty smell. Lighting awful. Chairs and furniture from the 60's. Toiletries no better than a very low end hotel. Check-in took 20 minutes and finally someone helped us. No warm welcome. Lobby says it all. Dated, smelly, dark, not at all welcoming. Will not ever return...one night will be it for us.

Thank you for taking the time to write us about your experience at Cragun’s. Customer feedback is very important in helping us make improvements. I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay. The décor at the resort is planned and maintained to capture a sense of old world charm that has been our trademark since the historic resort’s beginnings in 1940. Our design theme is not one that strives to be trendy and modern, but to reflect a timeless and classic northwoods ambiance. Cragun’s has invested a substantial amount of money in improvements at the resort. All mattresses and bedding have been replaced throughout the resort. We are in the process of placing new flat screen TV’s in rooms and cabins as replacements are needed. The 86 rooms on the south end of the resort have been remodeled with new bathrooms, carpeting, drapery and bedding. Several of Cragun’s cabins are on the schedule to be remodeled this winter. Value has been a cornerstone promise of Cragun's customer relationship since the resort’s beginnings. If you compare our package pricing, services and recreational options with other comparable resorts, you’ll find we simply offer more for your money than anyplace else.
I am truly sorry you did not enjoy your stay and hope you will give us another chance.
