I can't explain enough how i fell in love with West Bay its just so beautiful it makes me smile inside. We've never been to the south of England so this year we thought we would do a staycation and do a tour of the south. Dorset is breathtaking and i can't wait to visit again in the future. The main reason i chose West Bay was because of the TV series Broadchurch which was filmed here so this place was defiantly a highlight for me. The harbour is so pretty and the sun was out people where buzzing about, taking in the sights and sounds. It's only a little place and i can see it could easily get overcrowded so i would suggest to visit in the morning this was our plan but we were still here way into the afternoon because i just fell in love with the place.

There's nothing wrong with West Bay but compared to what else is on offer in Devon/Dorset we just felt that it was average. Plenty of parking, an "interesting" market type place ( If you like lots of Bric a Brac), nothing special.

An interesting combination of form and function, West. Bay is a quaint fishing community saved from the sea by a defra project. The protective sea defences have been made to be accessible from both arms of the harbour which provides a bracing walk on a windy day. An Excell precursor to a pint or two!, On the back of this there are a range of buildings, some of which do not complement the 18th century old town. There are a range of eateries from fast food huts to excellent hotels. The George is excellent for food and accommodation and the Bridport hotel does nice food with overly expensive drinks. We stayed at the West Bay hotel. A delightful hotel just off the Main Street in a lovely spacious room overlooking a very large sand dune with the sea beyond. A generous bathroom with a good sized shower made for an excellent stay. The full English and the cheese omelette were generous and tasty.

Have visited this area on holiday every year for over 5 years. Walk to West Bay and back from Eype for morning breakfast with my German Shepherd, he loves the walk across the downs and a play on the beach at West Bay. Lovely and friendly atmosphere.

Never fully get the whole West Bay thing. Fishing harbour meets seaside resort and does neither very well. With the exception of Rachel’s and a couple of other fish inspired sheds there is no where to really eat, much less get a drink, there is a solitary pub. The beach is very pebbly and in no way a comfortable place to sit. It feels crowded in the summer and rather desolate in the winter.
Despite all of that, it’s an okay place to visit, there are some nice views of the cliffs and a wet fish shop.
