“Thank you Mr Nikolas !”
Reviewed 12 September 2013

It's the tavern we've been eating since the first time in Tholaria and it remains genuin Greek, with excellent homemade food from their garden and their own lambs, pork etc.
It's a family tavern and Mr Nikolas Theologitis, the owner, always welcomes us, has something funny to tell us and asks humorsly if husbands are 'strong' and healthy in their erotic life or he has a good herb for those who want to improve it !
Meat in its best in every plate and good prices.

“Authentic”
Reviewed 28 August 2013

Tucked away up in the old mountain village of Tholaria on Amorgos is one of the joys of spending time in the Cyclades. To Panorama is where you go to experience Greek people enjoying life as only they know how.
The food is delicious and absolutely authentic Amorgian. Nothing is compromised to cater for tourists (who are pretty much all Greek around here anyway) and everything from the bread to the goat to the tzatsiki is served with real generosity. The wine is just plain weird (whether you choose white or red it tastes of Manzanilla sherry), but what sets this place apart is the atmosphere. From about 9.30 in the evening (no point in getting there much earlier) a couple of locals sit precariously balanced on chairs set on a ledge a few feet higher than the diners and play Greek (Amorgian?) folk music. A third man keeps the atmosphere building by telling very old jokes (apparently he's been telling the same jokes for the last ten years). Unless you're Greek or have a good grasp of the language you won't care that the jokes are old but will find yourself laughing along with everyone else and clapping to the music.
The second night we were there (it was so good we went twice) a space had been cleared amongst the tables so that people could dance to the music. So they danced. Really good Greek dancing. No costumes for the tourists (just jeans and t-shirts), no smashing of plates, no professional dancers, just Greek people having a good time. The form seems to be that the women dance whilst the men whoop and holler. It also appears to be the done thing to buy one of the dancers a drink and have it delivered to her on the dance floor if you appreciate what she's doing. Quite a lot of appreciation is shown, so the evening gets louder and more joyous as it goes along.
Don't go here if you just want a quick bite to eat. But definitely go here. You'll get caught up in the joy of it all!

“Excellent Authentic Homemade Greek Food”
Reviewed 16 August 2013

What a gem! This restaurant was recommended to us by a local resident of Amorgos, so we went for lunch. Tholaria is a very quaint town and the restaurant is charming. However, the food at To Panorama was excellent. The owner takes pride in growing and farming all vegetable and meats that he prepares himself. This kind of pride and dedication is rare. Take a trip to the kitchen and see the full lamb cooking on the spit. Ask a few questions, and the owner will walk you through all the delicious dishes cooking in the different pots while his wife sits by cleaning and cutting vegetables.
Truly a unique experience.
