I stayed in Vigla for 5 days and 6 nights mid September. Eleni and her family who run the hotel are so friendly and warm that you immediately feel that this is your place in the world. The food is great (Eleni's cooking!), nice and fresh every day, no old bread (bread is home made!), dodgy meat or cold eggs. Plus fresh fruit always available, you can have a proper breakfast and delicious dinner (restaurant open to non-guests too, so go ahead and invite your friends over). Warning for small stomached people: portions are very generous, so ask for a small one.
The rooms are really nice and spacious, traditional greek style, with supercomfortable beds and stunning views. The cleaner does a brilliant job every single day, so even if you're a clean bathroom freak like me it will all meet your high expectations.
The hotel is located on a hill, overlooking Aegiali bay, the valley around, Lagada village over in the east and hills and mountains all around. Perfect for walking trips in the northern part of Amorgos. The bus stop is just outside the gate, so if you can't feel your legs after a whole day of walking and you manage to catch a bus to Tholaria (there aren't many... 2 per day when I stayed there) it takes you right where you want to go.
It has a swimming pool for those lazy days when you don't feel like doing anything in particular, a parking in front if you plan to have a car there and there's always someone around to help you out, answer all sorts of questions (weather for the day, walking route to a place far away on the other side of the island, when the spring is in full bloom on Amorgos...) or get you a sandwich and fresh orange juice.
Great value for money.
You will most probably fall head over heels in love, so brace yourself for the day you have to leave - even after a short stay like mine it feels like leaving someone close and makes you want to cry. I'll be back in spring :)

Stayed at Vigla for a week, with my family (2 adults, two kids aged 6 and 4.5). The offered services are professional and the people running the hotel are very friendly.
The view from the hotel is speechless. The room is simple but very clean (towels and bed linen are changed every day).
The hotel has three pools, a deep one, one for the kids and one which can be used as a jacuzzi! We enjoyed the breakfast with has a number of homemade specialties such as jam, cake, and especially the fresh-baked bread.
The hotel offers free wi-fi services at the reception and the pool.
Due to our daily shedule we did not manage to try the traditional cuisine of Mrs Irini, but only a plate of the small cheese pies which were delicious.
I recommend this hotel for any kind of trip in Amorgos, either couples without kids or families.
I hope we will be able to stay there again!

Very nice stay at Vigla last month (Aug 2012). The whole family (a big thank you to all of them once again) who runs the hotel was really lovely and surely contributed to these good memories we keep of Armorgos. The hotel is located uphill on a square at the entrance of Tholaria (5 min drive / 30 min walk from Aegiali) and offers a beautiful view on the bay.

A few walking paths can be followed from Tholaria down to the beach (hilly though) or to other villages in the mountains (Strumbos, Langada etc.) definitely worth seeing. No doubt will stay there again if I ever get back to the island.

By the way, the cooking (homemade, house recipes) was really excellent (and cheap… ) almost worth the trip.

We stayed at Vigla Hotel from July 14 to July 19.

The hotel is located on the large square at the entry of Tholaria, a beautiful old style village set on a mountain. The beach is just below the hotel, but probably, if you aren't an expert walker, you'll need a car. (Aegiali's beach: 10 min by car) In Amorgos there are just one or two equipped beaches, the hotel will lend you the parasol but not the beach towels.

The garden, as the hotel, is well maintained.

Our room was simple but very clean and cozy (air conditioning, small fridge, television). Sheets and towels were changed every day.

At breakfast there were always homemade cakes, biscuits, jam and risogalo, and also sliced, cheese, eggs, cereals, yoghurt, croissant,...

The view over the bay of Aegiali from the restaurant is fantastic! Near the restaurant there is a lovely pool divided into three parts: deep water, shallow water and jacuzzi.

The welcome and the availability of the owner's family and of Ms. Eleni were WONDERFUL!
Right from the beginning you feel at home! During our stay we had some problems with the ferry (it had been cancelled) and they helped us calling several times all over the Greece!

A special mention to the cuisine of Mrs. Irini: the typical Greek dishes we enjoyed at Vigla Hotel are unforgettable!

So, if we come back to Amorgos is sure, we will stay here!

I liked the service, the staff's gentleness, the location over the mountain and the view of the mountain from the pool, restaurant and the balcony of our room, the feeling of safeness and the interest of the owners on our needs and the feeling that at any time there is someone near to help you! It is good that they change towels every day, which is important and almost indispensable for this island due to the high humidity. I had greater expectations from the room which is small with an old decoration and furniture. I also had greater expectations from the jacuzzi which was simple like a small pool and I think the breakfast was a bit boring except from local options (homemade tartes, Riz si lait, fruits).

The panoramic view of this hotel is wonderful. It is really special experience to have our breakfast, our lunch and dinner in a restaurant providing this fantastic view. Mrs Irene cooks perfect, so I didn’t hesitate to ask her the recipe of "kolokythoanthous"(courgette flowers). Our room was cleaning and smelling fresh and nice every day. It was our first time in Amorgos and each one of them gave us important information about the island which, actually, helps our tour. The bus stop is just outside the hotel, very comfortable for us who hadn't got car/scooter. We believe that in this place everyone will have a great time.
