“Fantastic accommodation”
Reviewed 21 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Our second stay, and will not be our last. Fiona very welcoming. Thanks for the Brocolli! A superb base for sea kayaking with purpose built launching area 500m from the house. Great day trips possible to the Garvellachs and Grey Dogs.

Outstanding views down the sound of Jura

Great cycling from the door to Loch Awe and beyond

“OK - Would not recommend staying in the winter time.”
Reviewed 28 December 2014 for a stay in December 2014

The location of the apartment is good, it's about 20 miles each way for a major town and both towns Lochgilphead and Oban are really quite nice. The apartment is set on a hill so has beautiful views for miles around, which makes it a really nice place to stay. The apartment itself is modern (with underfloor heating), clean and spacious throughout. The issue we really had with the stay was the fact that when the electricity went out we were totally left to it! There were about 4 candles and a torch, with no heating to speak of at all, we ended up getting pretty chilly in there. In the end we decided to drive to Oban and check the electricity situation from the local electricity website, once back on we headed back. That's our only major quibble, if there was some backup heating then there wouldn't be any issues.

Other than that there was a general lack of access to the internet (slow and limited access for emails/small browsing only) or mobile phone signal (none at all vodafone & EE).

Management Response
6 Jan 2015
It was unfortunate that we had a bad storm during your stay which caused a power cut affecting hundreds of houses. This rarely happens and the apartment is normally warm and cosy in the winter months with the underfloor heating. I'm sorry that you felt that you were "totally left to it" during the power cut - I visited when you were out to check whether your girl friend needed anything and to invite her to come and sit by my log fire. I appreciate your point about backup heating - the only backup heating I could supply is a calor gas heater - these are bulky, heavy and in my experience sometimes smell of gas and could present a risk. Because of this, and because a lengthy power cut is so rare, (this is the first time that I've had guests staying when there has been a power cut), I choose not to supply a gas heater. If power cuts were to become more frequent, I would look into this further.

“A Hebridean idyll!”
Reviewed 16 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

Traighuaine Ard was the perfect base for our 4 day stay. The apartment is immaculate and has stunning views over the bay and islands. Oban lies about 35 mins away to the north, with its ferry to Mull and other islands. (Remember to book in advance with Caledonian MacBrayne if you want to be sure of a particular crossing).
Fiona is gently supportive without being obtrusive, and is a fund of information on the local area. The apartment is very well stocked with relevant brochures.
We took advantage of the offer to have a meal provided in house by Fiona's neighbour Olwen, who is a superb cook. The portions are very generous, reasonably priced, and all you need to do is have the oven ready heated up to warm your choice through. (See Fiona's website for details).
Our trip to Mull and Iona was a highlight. (It's fairly expensive to ship the car over, so if you are organised and want to save money, go as foot passengers and use the island bus service).
I had a superb trip with Duncan who takes parties to view the wildlife along the coast and around the islands. The trip costs £35 and lasts for 3 hours. His boat is at Croabh Haven, less than 10 minutes away He was involved with the 'Springwatch' team as they set out to film the local Sea Eagles, (which I duly saw!). Fiona or Olwyn will give you his contact details.
Climb the hill behind Traighuaine Ard for sensational views,-but make sure you have proper footwear!
I can't speak highly enough of this great experience,-but I have to admit, the weather helped!

Fiona was there to greet us on our arrival and show us round the accomodation which was spectacular, everything you could ever wish for, the view from the patio door was fantastic.
We had previously more or less worked out a plan of where to go and when but you would never be stuck as Fiona has a large folder with a variety of different places to go see/do.

Oban is about a twenty minute drive away where you can have an opportunity to sample beautifully fresh fish and beautiful countryside throughout. There are lots of little towns/villages along the coast to visit and explore.

Our intention is to DEFINITELY return in two years

“Immaculately clean and well situated”

We enjoyed our week here. Fiona was there to welcome us when we arrived. We hadn't done much research into the area before we arrived but there were lots of leaflets and maps for us.
The two double beds were super king size which meant that we slept really well and the views are superb.
The kitchen area is well equipped. The only possible change that might have helped us would be to swap the dishwasher for a washing machine.....and this was because we had travelled there from elsewhere. Fiona had kindly offered the use of her machine and I believe there is a launderette fairly close. Of course, if you don't plan on doing a load of washing on holiday this is neither here nor there!!
We would definitely recommend this apartment and will come and stay again if we're holidaying in the area.

“Beautiful house and stunning views”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

A well equipped and comfortable apartment with natural spring water. No mobile signal but WiFi for Email, Facebook and WhatsApp. Excellent seafood and supermarkets in Oban- 30 mins drive. Fresh lobsters, crabs, mussels and village shop in Ardfern - 10 mins drive. Stunning scenery, nice beach for rockpooling at Arduaine, beautiful sandy beach at Ganavan Bay, Oban and book in advance for a ferry trip to Isle of Mull for Tobermory/ Balamory. A great place to escape and relax.
