So pleased that I have been able to list this property where we stayed for one night in Jan 2012.
We struggled to find somewhere to stay in the Tirau area as there were not many listings in the area on Trip Advisor so we initially found it elsewhere (the only place we booked for our NZ trip which wasn't a TA recommendation) but this place is an absolute gem one of the best we stayed in during our stay.
There are two rooms in this B & B establishment; we stayed in Rose room which as you will see from our photos was immaculately furnished and a beautiful huge room. Our hosts could not have been more helpful and the breakfast served in our room, at a time to suit us, was just stunning.
I have put a link to the booking site we used as they don't appear to have their own website (they really should!) this booking worked well but the photos on that site don't give any idea of the luxuriousness of Rose Lodge. Can recommend most highly! Only teeny tiny improvement would be a washstand or similar in the large bathroom on which to put washbags etc.
Tirau is a small place on a very busy road but Rose Lodge is just round the corner and is a quiet peaceful haven - you have your own entry door direct into the room. Tirau itself has its own speciality which is that the shops/church/school etc all advertise their existence with painted corrugated ironwork which sounds odd but is worth a wander round before you continue your journey. There are also a large number of gift shops which was useful for us as we could buy a variety of presents at the end of our trip - all the usual things available!
There is a nice restaurant (Cabbage Tree Cafe) open in the evening round the corner from Rose Lodge and several cafes open during the day.
PS Just don't forget to take your brand new water bottles out of the fridge in the room when you leave, which we sadly did!
PPS couldn't get the photos to load in the order I wanted - the 2 breakfast pics were the same breakfast! You won't need lunch...
