“Beautiful Resort in a Beautiful Place”
Reviewed 27 February 2013

It was an absolute pleasure to run away from smelly Chittagong to this friendly and quiet place in the mountains.
I only realised I fell in love with this country when I was sitting on the wooden balcony of our simple and friendly wooden bungalow, watching the breathtaking scenery against the setting sun, and sipping the dreadful whisky bought in the local pharmacy.
The staff is super-friendly and professional, food was delicious even for vegetarians, and the big balcony of the restaurant will totally kill you with its view.

If you are bit exhausted from Bangladesh's big cities this is the place to go - quiet, clean and peaceful . I stayed at a cottage with the walls formed by bamboo mats, a nice bathroom and a loverly terrace with a gorgeous view. Though I had come for trekking I felt very much tempted to stay there the whole day. At the entrance there is a restaurant with a beautiful terrace. Food is nothing special, but okay. The staff is very friendly and helps about everything you need. They offer good advice about tours and trips in the area. I took a four hour walk down the hill (steep) and then along the Shammu river and a road in the hinterland, when you cross through very friendly villages to return to river. A boat carries you back to Bandarban. Rates for everything are very reasonable and I will use the next occasion to come back and stay for a couple of days more.
Though it was the best part of the year for visiting Chittagong Hill Tracts there were hardly any foreigners there. Permits are easy to get in Chittagong and once you are out there you can experience a touristically mostly untouched area with a wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: Chose a cottage, not the dormitory - it is worth it.

This is a very simple group of cottages in the beautiful Bandarban region of Bangladesh. The rooms are clean and quiet. There are no TVs, internet or radios in the cabins (when we were there a game room was being built). The rooms have an outside sitting area what is screened in so bugs were not a problem. They also have their own generator to provide electricity. The staff was very helpful and the food was simple but very tasty with large portions. They can arrange tours to visit the local tribes or to visit Buddha Dhatu Jadi (Largest Buddhist Temple in Bangladesh). The owners live there and they made sure we were comfortable and our needs taken care of.

Room Tip: I would check out the room before I move in.

Staff there are very friendly and helpful. Particularly Mr. Khokan, nothing is impossible for him. Just ask him he arrange all your necessary trips, cars or guides. About the views of resort? I can explain about the natural scene of Bandarban by words. You need to go there experience yourself. It's awesome place to visit. Best time to visit is in winter.

Hillsiede resort is run by Guide Tours (that I didn't find positive) and that is a true mountain resort.
They offer few different kind os accommodation from dormitory till private cottages.
Don't expet any luxor but cottagges have hot water, fans, moscito nets.

Breakfast is included in the price and it's fully. Restaurant is quite expensive compering to the restaurants you can find in Bunderban (4km away from resort)
Prices are high as for the Bangladesh but it's worth to burgain. Eventhoug service you get in Hillside resort is wort it's price. Especially silence and peace you find there is priceless.

You can do some nice hikes around to Marma villages but not only.

The best hat we tried was Marma with great balcony over the valley and with a river view. A bit more expensive Moya has less charm but more comfort as also great location and views.

This place is busy during weekends and holidays as it is a popular spot along local middle class. Try to book in advance.

You need goverment permit to get to Bunderban. Can be received in 5 days time. Guide tours can arrange it for you.

Room Tip: just chack all the rooms if you can as they are very different and those most expensive are not necc...

The view from the restaurant verandah at the Hillside Resort typified a stay there. With green forested hills as far as the eye could see, the resort is an ideal getaway for peace and quiet, an escape from the traffic, noise, pollution and staring that dominates much of Bangladesh including Dhaka. The staff are super helpful as they very quietly go about their jobs with most being very Burmese in appearance and attitude. The food was tasty, although often appearing the same colour except for the sweet and sour chicken balls.
Accommodation was cottages built in amongst the trees where the only sound was insects and birds (and the generator when the electricity went out). The bathrooms were clean, mosquito nets were on the beds and our room had a/c as well.
They can also organise hiking or vehicle trips to explore the area. I would love to go back again if I got the opportunity but it is a 3 hour drive from Chittagong.
